Anything to do different? Maybe bet 4th?

I would complete on 3rd and lead 4th. I think you get value from him drawing to a weaker hand.

I'd bet 4th as well.

Nothing you can do when you get a 4 flush and brick out on 5th 6th and the river...

def complete on 3rd and lead 4th. the rest is standard. if he has KK44, good for him, but he plays bad on 5th. if he has a straight, he plays goot. smile.gif

I'm going to give my input from a live play perspective.

I may be I'm wrong but I would have raised on 3rd street. Your queen door card was strongest showing and there was already 2 folds to you. I like your 3 hearts and would have played them also, but non-straight 3 flush isn't as strong against multiple opponents as 3 straight flush cards. If you were closer to last to act or there were calls before you then yes just call because you have a mutiway pot brewing

A raise could have shut out the over calls and made it heads up or 3 way action (which it was). Now you have control. I would have bet right out when the 9h came on 4th street. You still have the highest board showing against no paired boards. If I was one of the other 2 players to me the 9h looks like it improves your hand. You could have a 4 flush, 4 to a straight, or Qs & 9s. I might try to take a card for the cheaper bet but if your hand improves again on 5th street (which it did) then unless I just hit a straight or trips I'm going to release my hand

Which brings us to 5th street. By playing this sleepy hand much stronger from 3rd street, you could have taken this pot down when you bet out. Your 3rd street call & 4th street check tells me you don't really have split queens so you can't have trips. When he called and raised with the king he could have been a very ballsy bluff. If he now had Kings up I think you made it too cheap for him to get there. He might have folded on 5th street. If he made a 5 card straight from the get go then he waited a betting round to disguise it. When I make a 5card straight or flush or hit it on 6th I like to announce it with a raise. If I am met with resistance then I can re-evaluate. I like being the raiser on 5th & 6th street. If they call they are drawing (in most cases) and watching them take their river card gives away if they made it or not. a lot of people moan & groan their bad luck of having a 4flush or 2 pair, get raised, and brick the river. You can see it. then I will bet when they check. If they bet out i just call, or if they dont seem so upset by their river card, I check behind them and turn my hand up. I've found that those who fill a boat on the river get solomn and check so they can check-raise.

I also would have made the crying call on the river if I was in your shoes at that point

I disagree with raising 3rd street... raise third street when you have a big pair or 3 big suited cards, Ace high 3 flush for example...

raising on 3rd street builds a pot which enhances pot odds for a drawing hand on 4th and 5th IMO

If you make it to the river after raising 3rd on this hand, what does his call of that raise tell you about his hand?

Harrington makes a point of weighing the importance of each bet/call... and preflop calls in hold'em are less telling than a call/bet on the flop or turn... so in stud his willing to call a small raise is less telling then his action after more cards have come... I don't think this is making any sense...

I like your input on live play river watching... I play live stud with my college buddies who are NL guys and they are hilarious to watch on the river while drawing...

Yeah, and he's raising with a draw... where's the downside here? He'll have a chance to both make his draw and collect big, randomly make a strong hand and collect big, or rep strong and win the pot on a later street without showdown. If he faces strong resistance, he's gone for sure... But I have no problem (image depending, of course) of repping a stronger hand and playing boards.

The real crime here is limping on 3rd street and letting hands even weaker than yours in so cheaply.

And yes, i agree wholeheartidly that watching inxperienced players in a live setting watch their own river cards is top notch entertainment. icon_biggrin.gif
