I disagree with raising 3rd street... raise third street when you have a big pair or 3 big suited cards, Ace high 3 flush for example...
raising on 3rd street builds a pot which enhances pot odds for a drawing hand on 4th and 5th IMO
If you make it to the river after raising 3rd on this hand, what does his call of that raise tell you about his hand?
Harrington makes a point of weighing the importance of each bet/call... and preflop calls in hold'em are less telling than a call/bet on the flop or turn... so in stud his willing to call a small raise is less telling then his action after more cards have come... I don't think this is making any sense...
I like your input on live play river watching... I play live stud with my college buddies who are NL guys and they are hilarious to watch on the river while drawing...

Yeah, and he's raising with a draw... where's the downside here? He'll have a chance to both make his draw and collect big, randomly make a strong hand and collect big, or rep strong and win the pot on a later street without showdown. If he faces strong resistance, he's gone for sure... But I have no problem (image depending, of course) of repping a stronger hand and playing boards.
The real crime here is limping on 3rd street and letting hands even weaker than yours in so cheaply.
And yes, i agree wholeheartidly that watching inxperienced players in a live setting watch their own river cards is top notch entertainment.
