Just walking through Walmart and saw Daniel's new Canadian Poker chip set at Walmart today. Nicely packaged, may be a bit pricey for Walmart customers since they sell cheaper sets too.

Is it better than the Howard Lederer set I saw over at Costco the other day?

It is a little bit more expensive than some of the other sets because the quality of the chips are superior.

Did you see it in the US or Canada? Is it available online?

They are currently available through Walmart Canada and shoot be avaibale in the U.S. shortly.

Given how socially conscious you seem to be, I'm surprised you would sell your products at Walmart. I understand you are also a businessman, and therefore need to sell your chips at the nation's biggest retailer, but are you familiar with Walmart's track record: discrimination against women, discrimination against people of color, paying illegal immigrants substandard wages, forcing overtime hours without paying people for them?

I don't mean to be hyper-critical, but just wanted to make sure you were aware of these things.

You're selling the chips at Walmart? That just completely devalues them IMO.

They are also serious culprits when it comes to unfair business practices. They'll set up shop in small towns with lower prices than all competitors, unfairly skewing the consumer market, and then raise prices when their competitors fall by the wayside. They create local monopolies in many instances (this is particularly a problem in rural America).

Walmart is no free market/ capitalism icon. It's a retail robber baron tycoon. Everything that's bad about corporate corruption is exemplified by Walmart.

I am happy to see Daniel is selling chips at Walmart. It shows me he doesn't buy into every liberal kook theory. Walmart employs alot of elderly and mentally challenged people. They give these folks a chance when others will not. How many of these types of people do you see working at mom and pop shops. None. Walmart gives these great Americans a chance when others won't. I know some would like to keep these folks dependant on the government so they can get their votes. I will buy a set as soon as it is availible in the states.

Rich people don't shop at Walmart.

Everyone has to draw their line somewhere. I never called Walmart un-American... in fact, they are quinessentially American. If you don't agree, then that's fine; no need for name calling.

But if one talks about being social conscious, they should also act socially conscious. Daniel doesn't seem to be the type of person that would sacrifice is morals to a make a buck, so the other posters and I were just calling these facts to attention.

Yes, Walmart employs people that are handicapped, and that's great. But they also disciminate against minorities, women, and are huge union busters. If a dog mauls five kids and is friendly to the sixth, does that make it good or bad?

I boycott Wendy's because they always get my order wrong.

One time, they only gave me 4 nuggets in my order of a 6 piece nugget.

Wendy's hires mathematically challenged people, but I still won't eat there anymore, nor is anyone allowed in my house with a Wendy's bag on poker nights.

If you sell your chips sets exclusively at Wendy's, I won't buy them.

100% clay chips cost around $1 and UP a piece...(so a set of 500 chips goes for 500) You can find ceramic chips which ARE casino grade for much less (65 cents)...try Nevada Jacks Deadman line...Chipco ceramics go for a buck a piece also.

These are probably the same "clay composite" crap that everybody sells...complete with a metal SLUG inside of it.

You want a good set of chips? Prepare to pay.

Wow. I just wanted to read about the DN poker chips. Discussions of predatory pricing and unfair labor practices were not what the original poster had in mind. People thought I was good at hijacking a thread. I'd post girls kissing right now if it wouldn't get me banned.

I shop at Wal-Mart. I've heard the arguments. I'd rather be indignant and angry about different issues. I'm not saying that these aren't valid, they're just not my cause. I can't keep track of everything I need to do to be socially conscious. I'll pick a new cause or two when government gets out of the marriage business and stops killing people in the Middle East.

The way everyone talks about Wal-Mart, really, really, REALLY shows that they know nothing about how it works.

I work there, and NONE of this goes on. I work with people of color, all ages, and many women, and I even have two women assistant managers. Also, alot of their merch. is pretty good stuff, we even sell caesers (spl?) chipsets for $150 now.
