there are lots of maniacs in and out at Stars mixed in with lots of familiar faces. There has also been a recent increase in foreign players (German I think?) I don't know if they just opened the door to a new region or offered them some sort of incentive/ bonus or what, but it is nice to have them at the tables

ty.
for a thought exercise 3 bet preflop and he calls and then what happens on that flop?
or how about this...
the way you played it up to the flop but change the 8 on the flop to a nine and the eight in your hand to a five.
look at the hand you posted and then these two altered scenarios and that pretty much sums up what i'm trying to accomplish with AAxx preflop.

if you go to the HEM forums under releases there is a thread about it.
they still need some hands from some places if you're able to help them out you should be able to get a copy.
i of course don't give a damn about them and would happily send everybody here the file except that when you start it there seems to be some online trickery and i wouldn't doubt if they detected the same file coming from two computers and yada ydad yada you get the idea.
so far it seems really cool though and i can't imagine anybody serious about playing not buying a copy of it when it gets released in a month or so.

i have 5% of somebody whose game i respect in the 1k plo8 scoop today. i even went a little over and bought a piece for $65 instead of $50 because i feel hes that +ev in it. blinds are 30/60 and hes already at 4k in chips but hes really kicking ass in the $100 which i do not a piece in so i hope he doesn't pay more attention to that one.
i really wish i had the money to play in it myself. i'm looking at the player list and all the top tournament players are playing in it but plo8 is such a weird game with such subtle nuances i don't their tournament expertise could overcome their lack of experience in it.

its funny because you don't even know what you did in that hand that was so bad.
why the hell would you c/r that flop and turn your set into a bluff? especially on a board that draw heavy. you are putting yourself into the ultimate being forced to pay off or getting bluffed off situation in a pot that you are bloating.
and as for the hand you posted there are two things i could have done differently which might be slightly better but i in no way made a significant mistake. cisqo checking his trips/boat twice is the big mistake. its like hes trying to miss as much value as he can. he may have one a huge pot this time but over time in the battle of mistakes i will come out way ahead here. i called $50 drawing dead, but getting 7 to 1 or so if its a mistake its a very small one. i will win sometimes, maybe i need a better price, but still, tiny mistake. the only thing you can say that i really did wrong was pricing myself into having to call on the turn. a raise to $90 would have been much better because then i could have folded.
two plo8 mantras to live by, here we go....
if you never shove into the nuts you are not playing well
plo8 is not about getting your money in good.
we can be friends. this is me being friendly. i've just given you advice that if you really think about it would significantly raise your win rate. and we play against each other. i should be charging you for this. ive actually stoped posting advice about plo8 on this board. if thats not friendly i don't know what is.
of course i have a nasty tone. im pissed that a) you won a hand where you were a huge dog and b- you played that hand about as poorly and nonsensically as i can imagine it being played.

Unless you have the absolute dream hand, (straight with a 2 pair or better) then I am about 43 EE if you call. More often than not, since I checked and the guy to my left min bet... your standard play 100% of the time is to pot it basically with anything and usually with nothing.
There are advantages and disadvantages of playing certain styles... If you always bet when its checked to you, I am going to CR you. If all you do is overcall, im going to bet huge. If you never bet and always call a little bit, im going to always value bet you. If you are a maniac, im going to overvalue my hands against you. Against you, and a handful of other players, I will make that play because I know you would easily do it with air.
This time, you ended up having the dream hand and I was 30EE. Most often you will just fold to my CR. You limped with an unpredictable hand and saw the perfect flop for your hand. And like I said, the reason I checked was so that you would bet with air and I could collect your donation. Yeah there are risks to over valuing hands against LAG/semi lag opponents but if you never stand up and defend yourself against someone like that, your stack will just disappear... More often than not, we both just get into 60/40s and 40/60s and 55/45s and 45/55s
And as far as my winnings... its not that much, but I haven't been playing as much as I would like. Now that I am moved into my new place and am playing to pay for my living expenses, ill probly be playing more... but my total net profits this year are about 6.2k from cash games on FTP. Soon Ill be playing more 1/2 since my BR can support that safely while multi tabling it.

so if i usually don't have anything why would you 3 bet it? to get me to fold the nothing that i'm willing to put money in with?
watch out when you move up to 1/2. the level of play increases drastically although it wont seem to at first.
edit: i'll stop being immature and bitter. we can resume talking like adults now.

Holy crap, I sat down at a .02-.05 PLO8 table last night for the first time in a while and I was shocked at the terrible play. The table was very active and guys were overplaying and overcalling high only hands (and not great ones either) like it was PLO. Is this kind of thing common at the low stakes?

I just stumbled over that old post branding me as a donk (well, at least not literally - retard it is

), so I thought I should reply on that. This hand is about a year old, and I don’t remember it, but I try to reconstruct what I might have had in mind. Here is the original post with the hand history, below that you will find my comments.
QUOTE (antistuff @ Sunday, January 18th, 2009, 4:41 PM)

i hate it when im right and then the retard calls anyway. his play is so consistent with a draw here(for him). turns out he plays hands he's scared of betting but feels like he has to bet them this way this way also. i can hear the voice in his stupid head "i have a full house how can i not bet?" then i hear the voice in his stupid head again "well, im beat here like always but i have a full house how can i fold". to my credit i was trying to push him off a better ace high and not a full house.
but what i love is his bet on the river. why would anybody bet that river if they are going to call a raise like that?
but what i hate is that if i don't win it back from him soon he's gonna get up, leave, and even worse than take my money with him feel good about himself. like he just did before i finished writing this.
i posted this with his name so if you run across him you can have an easier time taking his money. i don't care who he loses to i just want him to lose.

My comments:
1) Calling the minbet with the KJ55ss in the BB: Basically a terrible hand for Omaha 8, but I get 7:1, and since it’s pot limit, there’s such a thing as implied odds. However, folding here would have been fine, and would have been mandatory in a limit game, I guess.
2) Flop 53T with two spades, and I have middle set. Not the best of all hands, but after the SB checks, I guess betting out for half the pot is not too bad to see what’s up; I guess it’s better than a check-call. I probably put antistuff on some kind of Aceish-duceish-lowish hand before the flop, which is consistent with an early position minbet in these games, though Aces with babies are perfectly possible, too. His flatcall with 2 players to call behind him confirmed my opinion that he has the nut-low draw, possible together with a flushdraw, although he might have raised in that case. He would have definitely raised with top set here to protect against the flush- and lowdraws, unless he has something like A2TTss, a not so likely raising hand. All in all, I probably felt that I’m still in front, yet with a very vulnerable hand given this action on the flop. I probably would have folded here to a large reraise, since I am behind a nutlow + straight + flushdraw, and of course the top set. What antistuff thinks about my hand? Maybe flushdraw or top set?
3) Turn T – I just filled up. I probably felt now that I have a lock on the high, since a TT in his hand is now very unlikely, given the math and given the game we play. Raising only half the pot here – I don’t know if this is good or bad, a bit more might have been better, but I don’t know what I thought here. I probably felt, however, that my hand is well concealed, since he, too, now won’t think I have TT in my hand. He flat calls again, and I stay with my read of him holding the nut low draw.
4) River 3 – two pair on the board, a situation which in Omaha makes full houses somewhat unlikely. Yet, I have one, and I probably felt good about it, and bet out half the pot again. Again, I don’t know why I chose this size of a raise. Anyway – he reraises big, yet not the maximum, and the log says I was thinking, before I decided to just call. How confident I was regarding my hand I don’t know. But after all, what could he have? A TT in his hand – unlikely. A 33 – a bit more likely, with something like A332. But that’s basically it. Having a T3 or even a T5 in his hand is extremely unlikely given the math and the game; the quad treys scenario is basically the only one consistent with a reasonable PLO8 raising hand. So I probably put him on a bluff (people do that, you know), since he, on the other hand, can’t think I’m filled up, putting me on a busted flush / low. Given that, I probably just called because only the (unlikely) hands that beat me could call, but I probably should have gone allin in the case of the stubborn aces.
Summarizing, except from the bet sizes were I’m not sure about and the preflop call, I don’t see too many mistakes here on my behalf. Also, I don’t see too many mistakes by antistuff. Calling on the flop with his nutlow-draw + gutshot to the nut high in a potential multi-way pot was ok. He probably should have tried to take it down on the turn, since here I could have still believed the T3 scenario. The bluff on the river – gutsy play, and not unreasonable. However, also in Omaha you should give the BB some credit for having a weird holding. Regarding the “i don't care who he loses to i just want him to lose.” comment: He should care about winning from whomever, instead of caring about other people losing to whomever. Everything else is just a waste of time.
That’s my two cents – what do you guys think?

I think the preflop call is pretty bad. The implied odds really aren't that good - pretty much the only highly profitable flops for you will be quads vs. top full house or the nut straight with a heart draw and those don't come along often. You'll more often get into trouble flopping a set of fives on a low board.
The river should be a pretty easy call. Aside from T5, T3, TT, and 33 being pretty unlikely combos, the play on the preflop, flop, and turn is not consistent with those hands.

i remember this. i was cranky. i posted that here to vent. i do stand by my analysis of your play though (minus the personal insults).
as for the river in particular, if you put me on a low draw then why are you betting out? if im calling the turn with just a low draw then im obviously doing it with the intention of trying to take the pot from you on the river.
