Wow, I read three threads in there and in each one guys are arguing complete opposites. Some of the suggestions are completely off base IMO. I mean who the hell would argue it's a bad fold when you have top set/nothing else in a heads up pot with three low and two to a str8 and a flush on board with a bet at you?

I'm not crazy about your flop raise there, you have the underfull and a weak low. The chances of your low holding up are very slim, and if either of them are holding an 8 you risk being over-boated. It worked out nicely for you but you could have easily ended up with zippo on that hand. I'm a bit shocked that neither of them were holding an A2. You couldn't have been feeling very good when they both reraised all in.

QUOTE (jmbreslin @ Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008, 10:06 AM)

I'm not crazy about your flop raise there, you have the underfull and a weak low. The chances of your low holding up are very slim, and if either of them are holding an 8 you risk being over-boated. It worked out nicely for you but you could have easily ended up with zippo on that hand. I'm a bit shocked that neither of them were holding an A2. You couldn't have been feeling very good when they both reraised all in.
i maximized my screen before i hit call to show off to my girlfreind how i was just about to win a bunch of money.

Why not 3-bet the turn there? If he's going to raise you on the turn, he likely has a hand he's not letting go (pretty obviously Jxxx). He'd probably be very happy to cap the turn.

Yeah, I thought that too after I did it, but looking at it I think I get the same amount of bets either way and who knows maybe I got some kind of meta value. Being so card dead I started feeling like I was the easiest guy to read at the table having to play so str8 forward and playing with some pretty solid opponents. I agree I should have prob just raised it up though

Wow, you must love variance. Pot-raising the flop with the nut low draw (which could have easily gotten counterfeited), a very weak high, and no redraw to a good high on a flush and straight-draw board? Honest question: how is this kind of play profitable over the long run?

i don't think ive ever swung down more than about 6 buy ins unless i started playing very poorly. and even if i get stuck around 6 its usually because i threw one or two away like a retard.
Q7boy and mstt23 were both like 82/60 maniacs splashing around a lot. the only catch was that Q7 seemed like he was trying to play well postflop, while mstt23 is (obv) happy to shove his chips in with any sort of crap. the presence of that other player in the hand hurt a little, there must have been something about him i don't remember right now.
i guess just at the time the way the table dynamics and the way i was purposely butting heads against these guys trying to get at their stacks made it feel right. sometimes if a maniac sits down and i don't think they are going to hit and run ill really go after them. ill start calling their raises with seriously close to 50% of my hands. ill make small bets at them with nothing knowing they are going to raise me and fold to get them feeling like they are beating me up.
i train "good" players in similar ways but to do different things. i won't discuss the details of it publicly, but i will say that i often bet the pot at somebody knowing full well that they are going to raise me and i am going to fold.
but yea, this hand in a vacuum, its horrible. you should never get this many chips in with the hand i did. however in the flow of this game here it was the right thing to do. and even if he flipped over a2tt with the flush draw i would have felt good about my play.

Interesting strategery, but do you find that there are enough players at this level who pay close enough attention to what is happening to make it viable? From what I've seen at .25-.50 on FT, they play just about the same as they do at .05-.10 - which means that most metagame stuff would be completely lost on them.

In a single session, or over several sessions?
Interesting strategery, but do you find that there are enough players at this level who pay close enough attention to what is happening to make it viable? From what I've seen at .25-.50 on FT, they play just about the same as they do at .05-.10 - which means that most metagame stuff would be completely lost on them.
over several sessions. now that i've thought more about it i think the largest downswing ive ever had was like 12 buyins and that was over 2 break even months of horrible play. if i never tilted i would expect that i would never swing down more than 5.
i play with too many regs at .25/.50 that we're getting into things i wont talk about in a message board territory. i know that may sound paranoid but im almost certain on more than one occasion things ive said on here and on 2+2 have directly came back and bit me in the ass. i'm happy to talk about in on aim though, same name as here. msn is danny@yosc unt.com with no space.

I notice a significant difference in FL once you get to $.50-$1 and even more so at $1-$2. I've been seing a ton of supernovas playing $.50-$1 FL lately which just seems a bit weird to me

i don't know about at stars but at FTP the 2/4 and 3/6 usually looks softer than 1/2.
ive noticed this trend with most limit games at FTP though.

There just aren't that many o8 games so to get to supernova and then get lots of fpps they'll play down to .5/1 since it's the lowest level that gets fpps. Luckily they're horrible players and I'd be shocked if most of them we're winners before fpps. I also find it amusing that they want to show off that they're supernovas, I guess they think that because they play a lot it'll intimidate the fish, but I don't find stations intimidating personally.
