Would you also minraise a high only hand, like AAKJ double-suited, or pot-raise to narrow the field? If the latter, don't you risk giving away your hand by using different PF raises?

depending on the table I'll start raising any hand I want to play from MP to button preflop if "they" show a tendency of checking to me on the flop consistently

Wow, nice river. A spade lower than 9 and you're likely splitting the pot.

That was played more like a PLO hand than PLO8. Honestly, I probably fold that hand PF in that position. And once I'm raised, I'm definitely getting out of the way. Your low potential is virtually worthless and the high potential isn't fantastic (mid-range straight draws are trouble in PLO8). Good thing you got the best flop you could hope for.

but against a raise from a either a ABC tag or bad player when you think its going to be heads up be happy to play hands like that...IN POSITION.

sometimes my balls dont fit into my underwear. its not the worst problem to have.

also, i think synergy should have called with his a2 even if he knew he was getting 1/4 (too lazy to do the math, but it looks right to me). stevo was loose enough that he didn't have to have an a2 there.

antistuff, would you be willing to share your thought process on the river there? It's a pretty threatening board, with several straight possibilities that could have filled on the river. Did you assume that villains were all on low draws because of the passive play (no flop bets, no turn raises)? In other words, did you think you stood a decent chance of bluffing them off whatever highs they may have had, or did you not care if they called because you figured there was a decent chance your high was good enough?

i actually thought stevo for a straight and wanted to get synergy to fold his a2 so stevo and me could split his retarded bet into the river. i have a feeling synergy has me beat for high here a lot but i think when i make a big raise like that he is going to try to make a good lay down against me because i feel like he views me as the lucky idiot who always has it.

in retrospect, im not entirely sure why i read synergy for being weak tight. i can't recall any previous hands with him that would have led me to that conclusion. there is a pretty general stereotype of players at this level who are way too weak tight, and his stats certainly fit the bill so maybe that was it.

what ended up happening was a pretty nice surprise.

while not exactly a standard hand, it illustrates an idea vital for playing this game. sometimes when you have a lock on one side and a weak hand on the other you have to try to push people out.
jmbreslin
Yeah, that idea has come up in discussion before. My first thought when looking at a hand like that is I'm going to play it carefully because I don't want to get quartered, but what you've said before is that playing these situations aggressively is +ev because the $ you make from pushing people off hands more than makes up for the occasional quartering. But I'm not covinced it would work very well at my stakes (.02-.05) because good laydowns are much less likely at that level.
rvrchsrhtr
ummmm................. can you say pussed out? couldn't figure what he would raise there that I beat but by just calling the raise on the turn I set him up to pay me off then just plain pussed out! closedeyes.gif

Players at these stakes are very good at overvaluing mediocre hands - he could be playing anything from a made straight or flush on the turn to trip Aces with a lower kicker. He's probably not putting you on a boat because of your small flop lead. Absolutely amazing that he would play a straight so aggressively on such a threatening board. Just shows how bad some of the players are at this level. The thing is, you have no idea whether he's trapping w/ AK when he check-calls the flop and then minraises the turn, so don't beat yourself up about not getting more value out of the hand.

Tell me about it. My heart dropped into my shoes temporarily when the second Q fell on the turn, so I was quite relieved when we went to showdown and I came out on top. That said, I was only really concerned about MP2 so I still stood a good shot at the big side pot against MP1 even if MP2 took the main pot.

This was one hand where using the HUD really came in handy - MP1's stats were something like 90/75/9.00 in the dozen or so hands since he sat down. So I knew I just needed one good hand to trap his ass.

i've noticed that FTP now has omaha8/stud8 mixed tables. i think it would be great if these games got going. if anybody wants to play me HU at one of them anytime to try to start something i will play up to 2/4. if those games took off they would be a goldmine. my only stipulation is it has to be at a high traffic time to try to attract other players.

PM me if you're interested.

Yikes, I'm not so sure about that last one. I don't like committing so much of my stack PF in this game unless I'm short because starting hand values are so close in O8. I'd rather build the pot a bit and then see how my hand shapes up on the flop. After the flop the hand basically plays itself but only because you committed so much of your stack PF.

yeah at these stakes with dead money in the pot I don't mind flipping for stacks with a hand like that, if I was deeper I would've played it different. wink.gif

FYI........hey guys not sure if you've ever played on or still do play at AP, but the PLO8 games going on there are crazy soft. I'll post some hands later when I get home, but the play was just atrocious! people playing any four raising with two pair paying off hands with hands that shouldn't have even seen the flop. There wasn't many tables going at the .5/.10 PL level, but the ones that were well lets just say they were juicy. They did have several going at the $2/$4 limit going not sure if they were near as soft though as I've only turned the free $10 they gave me in to $20 so far.

This is my nominee for "Best played hand of the year". Also a cautionary tale of why you shouldn't pay so much darn attention to those silly 10 cent 360 man Stars NLHE turbos when you have a couple o8b cash tables open lol.

Wow... Didn't even see the SF... I even told him "nh" in the chat box, then freaked out when the chips went my way.
We've all "lost the minimum". I may have actually "won the minimum" when you factor in PF, the flop, and the river.

LOL my thoughts on this hand, in order:

1. i guess he means he should fold preflop. meh, that's not that bad, you can play that hand profitably if the villains are terrible.
2. i mean, he paid off fairly light, but it's not bad, at those limits, he could easily have a worse flush.

pause, pause, pause.

pause, pause, pause.

3. OH!

People actually fold at 1/2 and 2/4.. It's quite lucrative.

I went from dollar o8b tournaments to 1/2 2/4 FLO8. wink.gif

2 things: 1. ) its a split pot game. 2. ) it's pretty TAG compared to .25/.50 and .50/1. You'll see guys fold for 2 orbits and then refuse to lay down AAxx. If you play a drinking game where you have to take a shot every time it folded 10 handed to the blinds, you'd be in for a swell time. I don't think I've ever actually lost a buy in over a session. I'd probably slit my wrists if I did.

I am rolled fine for $1 $2 L and $2 $4 was just a see how dif this game plays experiment. I just dropped to .02 .05 one day cause i wanted to play some PL for awhile and stayed there cause it seems to be a pretty ez way to boost your roll (even if it is $8-$12 a session) icon_biggrin.gif
