Bragging is fine.
But using it as an argument when you lose 3 years later is not bragging. I mean, I'm happy they won the thing too. I AM from Chicago. (Maybe I'm the minority.) It's just comical though the way that whenever anything negative happens with the sox, not only the fans, but even management keeps relying on a 2005 WS win. WTF does that have to do with 2008? It's not the same team, if the players were the same, then I guess there's some sort of hope of things turning into that, but it's not. Is it just used to make Cubs fans feel bad? Cause it doesn't... Most Cubs fans are busy rooting for their own team, instead of hating on the other. Cubs fans just don't really give a shit about the Sox. It just comes off pathetic and depserate. If anything, stand on the merit of this season, you're also in 1st place in your division. At least that applies to the current season.
And I'm a Bulls fan, and the only way I am holding onto those championships is by recognizing how ridiculously good those teams were and being pissed at how bad they suck now. I'm not saying... It doesn't matter if Boston wins ONE... We have 6!! That wouldn't make any sense.
I didn't read the previous posts so I don't know the argument, but if an Angels fan pointed to the scoreboard so to speak, I'd have to shut up because recent championships trump all. Winning the WS is the goal of every MLB franchise (well, ok, not all of them. some owners just like money.), so every year the Dodgers (in my case) don't win, they had a failure of a season in my eyes. So, the Dodgers have been losers since '88, which I know isn't as bad as others, but still should be unacceptable to the fan base.
Like I said, I didn't read the other posts, but the Celtics/Bulls comparison doesn't seem to fit White Sox/Cubs...

But yeah, I agree with your point re: excusing recent shortcomings with past success, and if the Dodgers don't somehow make a deal with Satan and end up making the playoffs and winning the WS, I'd like to see the Cubs come out of the NL.
