You meant 'Dodg...errr' I think...and it even would have been a clever play on the name. smile.gif

And you don't have to wait long.

Of course, you obviously can't wait to play the Giants again either, but that won't be for a few years I think, barring a White Sox-Giants WS this year. Do I even need to add an 'lol' at the end of that? smile.gif

Dangit!!!

Bragging is fine.

But using it as an argument when you lose 3 years later is not bragging. I mean, I'm happy they won the thing too. I AM from Chicago. (Maybe I'm the minority.) It's just comical though the way that whenever anything negative happens with the sox, not only the fans, but even management keeps relying on a 2005 WS win. WTF does that have to do with 2008? It's not the same team, if the players were the same, then I guess there's some sort of hope of things turning into that, but it's not. Is it just used to make Cubs fans feel bad? Cause it doesn't... Most Cubs fans are busy rooting for their own team, instead of hating on the other. Cubs fans just don't really give a shit about the Sox. It just comes off pathetic and depserate. If anything, stand on the merit of this season, you're also in 1st place in your division. At least that applies to the current season.

And I'm a Bulls fan, and the only way I am holding onto those championships is by recognizing how ridiculously good those teams were and being pissed at how bad they suck now. I'm not saying... It doesn't matter if Boston wins ONE... We have 6!! That wouldn't make any sense.

I didn't read the previous posts so I don't know the argument, but if an Angels fan pointed to the scoreboard so to speak, I'd have to shut up because recent championships trump all. Winning the WS is the goal of every MLB franchise (well, ok, not all of them. some owners just like money.), so every year the Dodgers (in my case) don't win, they had a failure of a season in my eyes. So, the Dodgers have been losers since '88, which I know isn't as bad as others, but still should be unacceptable to the fan base.

Like I said, I didn't read the other posts, but the Celtics/Bulls comparison doesn't seem to fit White Sox/Cubs... wink.gif

But yeah, I agree with your point re: excusing recent shortcomings with past success, and if the Dodgers don't somehow make a deal with Satan and end up making the playoffs and winning the WS, I'd like to see the Cubs come out of the NL. smile.gif

Too bad that was 2005. Doesn't mean much now, but keep holding onto that.

It doesn't mean much now? If it doesn't mean much to you then why watch baseball? Why do you want your team to win? How long can I hold on to it? 1 year? 2? I'm not making excuses for anything. I personally don't really enjoy the Crosstown Classic and usually end up not watching the games.

Agreed, they're about #8 on the list of teams I care about beating.

This may be naive of me, possibly due to a small sample size, but it seems Cubs fans care waaaaaay more about this series than White Sox fans. I actually asked a friend who's a Cubs fan about this earlier and he agreed with me and said they don't have much else to brag about, so when they beat us they really enjoy it. Obviously that's one person and probably doesn't mean much, but I still found it interesting.

Except, I'm pretty sure the reason it pleases so many cubs fans to beat the sox, isn't because we hate the team so much, it's because we know how much it annoys the sox fans when you lose to us. I've heard sox fans over and over again say they'd rather see the cubs lose than the sox win, that's just assanine. I'm not saying the majority of the people here would even agree with that, but trust me, it's out there.

Offensively he sucks, but defensively he's one heck of a player.
mk
the guy who writes the south side sox blog convinced me that he's a really valuable asset for depth since he's our first replacement for SS, 2B and he can play 3B too. pablo is ok but it's nice having a really solid glove on the bench.
Gallo
Not sure about this yet. Don't really mind his bat, it's his injuries that are usually a concern.

It's his defense that is a problem.

Now you have Konerko sitting on the bench and a terrible defensive outfield.

Doesn't make much sense.

At least Swisher can play 1st now.

Well, that's the whole thing, seems the Sox will move Swisher back to first. It is very possible that Griffey moves to either left or right, more than likely left field if anything. Could Griffey play 1st? Highly doubt it, but you never know with Griffey's age playing into his position. Kinda wished they went for someone like Manny instead.

I think Griffey could play 1st, but the word is they're putting him in center and benching Konerko. They have a half hour to make another trade and unscramble this, but I can't see how really.
cubsfan44
Griffey could not and would not play 1st. Thats the problem with this trade all it does is create a bigger cluster **** in something that already was one

If Griffey plays left then where do you put Carlos? Same with right? Your defense sucks already and it just got worse.

Not trying to hate btw. But I really dont like this trade by the Sox

They can probably switch it around, Carlos or Dye in center. I don't think the defense was that much of a problem with the Sox.

Oh, and quit having your fans beat up on people.

Nice win last night. I just watched the 8-9th... that dude in the 9th was pitching some crazy heat. (For the other team.)

Was at the game last night, we needed that kind of start from Danks. Hopefully our other starters can get going.

Playing pretty decent right now. Last night was shit, you have to put that guy on and get the double play ball available.
F'in Minnesota comes back and wins it in the 9th.

I backed up this sentiment by dropping a ****ing BOMB on the Sox to win the World Series at 19-1 a few days ago. They're already down to 14-1 at the shops where I banged them. Part of this might be the fact that, you know, I hit them for close to the max. (This is reminding me of the KU National Championship debacle from this year's NCAA season. I banged them at one place, then had to go around banging them everywhere else so the price would drop, and I could offer the best price in the market when I sold it off later. That worked out really well, since I ended up holding the ticket until the end.)

The good price I got was a function of the Twins resillience, but I'm sure the Twins are still just contending with with smoke and mirrors. The Sox are a real baseball team, and the Twins are just a collection of luck sacks. Having a gambling problem makes for strange, uncomfortable bedfellows. I have a Tigers UNDER total wins future that I bought before the year, and I hate the White Sox, but have a big stake in their continued success. Awesome. How about some more pain?

Anyway, go Sox. I hope they just rip off like 20 straight wins and the Metrodome collapses on top of the Twins during their next homestand.

It's interesting, isn't it? I think Gardy is a good manager, but for them to be outperforming offensive expectation by this much for this long is pretty wild. I think the Sox at 19:1 is a reasonable bet, but the realist in me fears that we will go into that series in Minneapolis the last week of the season not having clinched yet, and since we can never beat them in the dome, I think we give them the division. That said, the wild card is still a real possibility, and *if* we squeak in somehow, I like our chances....lotta guys on our team who've played October baseball. Maybe that counts for something, maybe it doesn't, but there's something comforting about the thought of Mark Buehrle on the hill for Game 1 of the ALCS... Also, someone mentioned at Hardball Times (I think?) that the White Sox would be really dangerous in the playoffs since they hit so many HRs...he made the argument that it should (somewhat) even the playing field against top-tier pitching since it only requires one pitching mistake instead of piling together a bunch of hits, which those pitchers tend not to allow.
