Seeing as how no one runs these types of contests if they think ANYONE has a chance of winning it, I think it's pretty safe to say where the Fan590 is predicting the Leafs will finish..

Thats not true..You can take out insurance for anything..For example I am involved in a charity golf tourney every year, and it costs $500 to insure a $75000 car giveaway for a hole in one...

The Fan I am sure is not risking $1 million...

Unfortunately Chris' point (there's now a shift to using Chris's to indicate possession, which I'm a little unclear about, so I'll stick old school) is still valid. The Fan is probably paying less than the $500 you paid to insure that car.

It'd be a fun job to do risk asssesment for those kind of insurance propositions though.

Well I tried to convince the guys on the organizing committee to lets gamble on the hole in one...Its a 175 yd par 3 at Angus Glen..What are the chances someone is gonna hit it..We have been running the tourney for the last 3 years, and no one has really come close..My colleagues didnt want to gamble with the church's money though... icon_clap.gif

I've always been curious as to how much TSN paid in insurance for that Wendy's "Kick for a Million"... it's not like the guy was just pulled out of the stands and given the opportunity to kick, he trained for it pretty hard (as I think anyone would given the opportunity).

Obviously the chances aren't high that he would have made it, but I think over 10% wouldn't be unreasonable, in which case you'd imagine they'd be paying quite a bit in insurance money.

is it Tsn or Wendy's in that case..

Also on Leaf telecasts they "give away" $1 million if your name is chosen and a Leaf player scores 5 goals in that game...

The Jays used to run (not sure if they do) where a player hits a grand slam in the designated inning for the promo..

I'm going to give away $1,000,000 to someone that posts regularly in the hockey forum if the Mustangs win the AHL championship next season.

can we get that in writing, in official contract form, with no loopholes???

Cause I think I may be able to swing a few deals in the likes of.

David Krejci for Sidney Crosby
Kyle Wellwood for Mike Richards, Dion Phaneof and Dustin Brown..
Brooks Orpik for Joe Thornton

I think $500K wont be such a bad deal.

Those trades would be considered collusion. Well, maybe not the Wellwood one.

When I worked for the Oilers, we would occasionally do those shoot-the-puck-through-the-little-tiny-hole-contests. It cost us under $500 to insure it for a million. The interesting part is the clauses that go with that type of insurance. There are a LOT of ways to get out of paying it.
BUT.... my point remains.... obviously SOMEONE who is putting their ass on the line for that stanley cup promo doesn't believe the leafs have any shot at all. It would be interesting to phone hole-in-one insurance and see what the coverage cost difference between the Leafs and a team with NHL players would be..

the beauty of this forum is that posts like this will be replayed forever after we win the Cup next year...

We will be communicating telepathically by then.

I can't imagine how cheap the insurance on this contest would be.

The insurance company will probably only charge about $100 and then bet it on the Leafs to win the Cup. If hell freezes over and the Leafs do win the Cup then the insurance company will be up money as I'm sure Vegas will pay more than a million on a $100 bet for the Leafs to win it all.

I just opened the hockey forum page and saw this title again and thought that the Leafs were announcing the re-signing of Andrew Raycroft

All joking aside, I wonder how much the station would have to put up for this contest... 1000 bucks? 1-1000 seems like a really high price. but if it was 1-100, I can't imagine the station would be willing to put up 10,000 for this promotion. Maybe we should ask "Actuary".
