Its our year....Trust me

When's Steven Pearce gonna get a shot?

Might as well throw him in the rotation, so we can get some offense every 5 days instead of just having Matt Morris with his 10+ ERA. I can't imagine Pearce could be worse.

Seriously, 12 million dollars? Davis for Morris may go down as one of the worst trades in history, even if Rajai Davis never picks up another major league hit.

Marlins are feasting on Pittsburgh. Usually the Pirates own us too. This is nice.

Matt Morris is dead to me.

Kinda disappointing, really... Watching to see if Morris could lose 20 was about the only drama remaining for this team.
vonteego3
Absolutely tremendous effort by Maholm today. CG, 99 pitches, 2 hits (which came consecutively in the 5th for the only Philly run). Maybe this will provide a little inspiration for Snell and Gorzy the next few days.
vonteego3
Can we agree that McLouth is for real yet? I assume he's a lock for the 3 hole once Bay is dealt/thrown in the river.

Yes! Cain = filthy though.

You guys should be ashamed of the Pirates for only putting up 2 runs and 5 hits on Zito. Because of that lack of ass kicking, the GIants fans and announcers were 'happy' with Zito's performance. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how much more entertaining my life is when they are up in arms about it.

Then again, being happy with a guy losing to go 0-7 is pretty pathetic, which makes up for it a bit.

True. It's all a matter of if I want long term entertainment (Zito continuing to pitch), or short term entertainment (ridiculous Giants fans calling in foaming at the mouth after every start). Plus, when he is going reaaaaaally bad I like to listen to Krukow try and put a positive spin on it.
Oziumrules
On a roll ! Clutch hitting by Freddy....

sweep of Giants 3 of 4 from braves and now 2 of 3 from Cards...Looking good. Hopefully they can keep it up.

Their OF is sck.

The Doumit injury sucks. He was playing well. Paulino needs to step up !!!

Ronnie Paulino is the reason we moved Neil Walker to third base.

With that being said, Ronnie Paulino is the most worthless piece of shit catcher I have ever seen. I would rather see Humberto Cota back there.

I need to come to the Sports forums more often.

Is 2 seasons enough to realize Adam LaRoche can't hit until the team is completely out of contention?

I'm ready for a Walker/Wilson/Sanchez/Pearce infield, a McLouth/McCutchen/Nady outfield, and a look towards the future.

Dude, Brian Bixler is the SS of the future!

SW.

Also, who do we have catching this motley crue? Matt Wieters, right? THANK GOD we drafted him and didn't let the fact that Scott Boras was his agent and he would demand a large amount of upfront money affect our decision to draft him. It could be worse, we could have drafted a LHP RP from Clemson who we'll try to make a starter but projects to be no more then a back of the rotation guy if he ever makes a rotation. That woulda sucked!

Phil Dumatrait continues to impress.

How many more starts does Gorzy get? As far as I know, he isn't out of options, so I don't know why they don't send him down until he can find the strike zone again.
vonteego3
6 K's through 2 for Snell... unfortunately, at his current pace, it'll require about 270 pitches to go 27-27.
vonteego3
I realize I'm talking to myself at this point, but here's my update.

Snell & Gorzy - looks like they've turned it around, they're finding the strike zone more, and although they've had high pitch counts recently I think the fact that they're not walking nearly as many will lead to guys not taking as many pitches, eventually lowering the pitch counts.

LaRoche - Time to go.

Doumit - yikes. Absolutely on fire, and near the top of MLB catchers in a few stats while playing half as many games.

Bay - Seems to have returned to the 30+ HR, 100 RBI guy we thought we had in him.

McLouth - <3

Paulino - The most interesting of all, I think. Shown some signs of brilliance, but always seems to have his attitude questioned. I think he showed a lot of character after being demoted, talking about how he was happy to be able to play everyday and looking forward to getting some swings. 10-16, 2 HR, 5 2B in his first 4 games in Indy.

Bullpen - An absolute rock... responsible for keeping the team near .500, and if the starters keep improving, will be key to a 85+ win season.

16 years since they had more than 79 wins. Here's to hoping they'll be able to stop that this year...but I doubt it.

Maholm hitting 8th? Really? It's NOT like having 2 leadoff hitters, it's like sticking a .300 hitter behind the pitcher. So fucking ridiculous.

Top 7 :: Worst Trades of the Decade

1. Giants/Twins
Giants receive: A.J. Pierzynski
Twins receive: Boof Bonser, Francisco Liriano, and Joe Nathan

Brian Sabean must have been on crack.

Lol, that's our Sabean!
king1305
Pirates outfielder Jason Bay is headed to the Red Sox. The Pirates will receive Andy LaRoche and right-hander Bryan Morris from the Dodgers and outfielder Damien Moss and releiver Craig Hansen from the Red Sox.

Another LaRoche, sweet!

Also, some speculation that Jack Wilson is headed to the Dodgers. This trade sucks if we gave up Jack and J-Bay.
Oziumrules
We win on the Manny/Bay trade. Great prospects and the better LaRoche.

I like it a lot. I've loved Craig Hansen since I watched him through for St. John's in college, Moss is supposed to be a legit ML OF, LaRoche HAS TO BE better then his brother at a position the Pirates desperately need a good player, and the kid from the Dodgers is (I think) a former #1 pick who from everything I've heard has a HUGE ceiling.

I like it.

Did anyone see the one headline on 'The Onion' today? It said, "Yankees make up prospect to trade to Pirates" and made me lol, but I caught myself because I wouldn't be surprised if it happened glare.gif

2000 - Sean Burnett
2001 - John Van Benschoten
2002 - Bryan Bullington

__________________________

2003 - Paul Maholm
2004 - Neil Walker
2005 - Andrew McCutchen
2006 - Brad Lincoln
2007 - Daniel Moskos
2008 - Pedro Alvarez

The 1st three are forgettable...but who knows how the next 6 will turn out. What's the deal with Walker...seems to be stinking it up average wise in Indy. I'm only interested because I was a teammate of his around 2000 in Fall ball. Awesome battery-mates I must say.

I think you can safely throw Lincoln and Moskos into the forgettable category. They'll never wear a Pirates uniform.

Both McCutchen and Walker will get a look next month, so maybe we can learn a little more about what we actually have with those guys.

Ya I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about them. 1 year and they've already given up on Moskos?

I'm pretty sure Moskos was given up on before he was drafted.

As far as Walker goes, I would imagine it has something to do with him still trying to learn a new position and really focusing on making himself good defensively. He is a pretty proven hitter, it will come and he will be a decent major league hitter, imo.

(call me biased for showin love to the WPIAL guy, lol)
