Mats Sundin, a Montreal Canadien?

Had Bob Gainey and Cliff Fletcher had their way at the trade deadline, Sundin would now be a member, healthy or not, of Les Glorieux.

The deal was in Sundin's hands: All he had to do was give his blessing to being dealt, which he did not.

The agreed-to trade would have sent speedy winger Christopher Higgins to the Leafs, along with Montreal's first, second and third-round draft picks, in exchange for the captain.

Gotta give Fletch credit though. Between that and getting Jeff Carter and a pick for Kaberle, the Leafs would have been looking a lot better in 2 or 3 years.

How is it a bad trade..If Sundin is on Montreal , they are a legitimate cup contender..now not so much have three less draft picks, one less forward, and an aging, hurt, rent-a-player who's out for pretty much the rest of the season anyway..

I'd be a nice trade if Montreal was able to get him signed though.
