When I read my first poker book, it was nowhere near helpful. Ive heard all about supersystem 1 and 2 and how good it is. Im mainly looking for a book that tells you how to get your money in with the best hand and how to extract the most money out of your opponent when you have the nuts. I also would like to know good betting styles and how to put the right amount of money in the pot. Should I wait until Daniel's book comes out or should i go ahead and buy Supersystem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Harrington on Hold em. All volumes. Tournament bible and a good base to start from when developing your own game

Phil Gordons little green book. Laugh all you want, this is VERY solid fundamental stuff. Tournament biased, but applies to all poker.

Sklanskys Theory of Poker. Tuff read and very "math"oriented, but a must read, even if you don't finish it.

Super System. obv.

Keep in mind everyone else in the world has now read these books, so you'll have to get creative and vary your game. Use this info as a base, some things never change like calculating pots odds, etc.

Also visit the Strategy threads, There are some very good players here that can and will be happy to help......most of the time.

edit: there are tons of books but these are my top 4.

Harringtons are the best...He also has 2 cash came books coming in in May/June I believe which will be must reads...

Slansky's books are good, but like nutz said are very math oriented. NL Theory and practice by him is good but its deep and the math is rough...I personally think Slansky is a douchebag (If you wanna feel the same way try to find a few stories about the guy) so I wont be buying his books again...
