I haven't seen many Florida games this year. Do you think getting his throad slit has changed his game much? I'm wondering if a big part of his decision was because the KHL is less physical - so there's less chance of a career/life ending injury. I know it was a freak accident but situations like that really make you value life and second think things.

Quite possibly so, it did have an effect and mainly on his driving to the net instinct, but he was starting to come out of that shell last year.

What I think probably happened is that Florida told him that he will not be in the fold for the coming season, with that knowledge he decide to go to a place a lot closer to home, and family, seeing as he had a sick mother that had passed within the year. I'm sure he wasn't too happy about being across the world, but I'm sure he could have been given leave by Florida if he had really looked into it, so that's a toss up there.

GREAT news for Panther fans!

Oh I know, I like Bill Lindsay a lot, and he wasn't too shabby doing the radio games so maybe he'll be good. Kinda funny how I was just talking about Potvin and how bad he is.

Our team is in shambles.

We're being sold, and rumor has it the sale has hit a snag, it sounded like a sure fire deal, with the sale involving assets around the rink as to help ensure against a move.

We're without a GM, our past GM had us set up for a plan, then seemed to handcuff us and bolt. Beat writer George Richards expounds, "Just got off the phone with David Booth. He says there has been no contact with his agent and JM of late. Craig Anderson told me the same thing last week in Indy. Jay Bouwmeester's agent told Barry Jackson of El Herald that he hadn't heard from JM either."

Our all-star is leaving, no not Vokoun. Acting GM, Randy Sexton, had this to say about him, ''I've had some conversations with his agent, it's a work in progress.''

David Fricking Booth one of the bright spots has not been resigned yet (thank you former GM) and is a RFA.

When is Nathan Horton going to be labeled as a failure?

Markstrom doesn't get here until 2010-2011.

Zednik is gone, Peltonen or Dvorak will not be coming back (if not both), we start in Europe, Boynton wants out, Skrastins wants a raise.

You never know, a few weeks could change everything. We'll see who Jay's rights go to, and what we get in return (getting my B-R-I-E-R-E stencil's ready). Sexton has mentioned about looking to move up in the draft. We'll see.

Pretty solid pick up for the Cats here.

They get Reinprecht for someone I've never heard of, and immediately sign him to a 3 year deal, for about $2 mil per.

Yeah, the guy we traded was (and should be) a life long AHL-er, so I'm really happy with this deal, seems like quite the steal.
Zach6668
He was a UFA, so they basically gave a tiny piece up for his rights, and got him signed right away. Very good deal for the Panthers, and good for the Coyotes to get something in return, even if it's just AHL depth.
Piddle Duck
Hmm, wonder what line Reinprecht will be on. Any ideas, I openly admit not to have paid much attention to them.

Most likely second line with Frolik and Stillman, though of course as always things are subject to change.
Zach6668
They gonna get Booth locked in? You said in here they haven't even started talking to him.

Offer sheet city coming up, I think.

I would like that. I have him on my FCHL team for one more season. He had 14 and 27 last year with a weaker line so maybe he can squeak out a few more for me this year.

Acting GM just had this to say, "His agent and I have had good conversations. They’ve been very positive. There’s no animosity on either side of the table. We’ve been crystal clear. We really like David and we really want him to be part of our future. And they’ve been equally positive, saying he loves it here and really wants to be a Panther for a long time. Now we just have to work through the process of getting a deal that both sides find mutually respectable."

Booth was at the Joe in Detroit for some of the playoff games and said he wanted to bring that excitement to Florida. So it sounds like they're just hammering out the details. When I heard of some "breaking news" for the Panthers this morning I just assumed it was a Booth contract, as I didn't think that Bouw's rights would be traded this early, but the trade definitely came out of left field.
Zach6668
Oh nice. I like him in Florida. Only better spot would be on Sid's wing. biggrin.gif

Pretty solid pick for you guys.

Bouwmeester to Calgary for Leopold and a 3rd rounder is done.

Not bad getting a 3rd for a lost cause. Leo is UFA anyway too.

Yeah, I liked it a lot, they said he'll be challenging for a spot in the upcoming season! I mean I doubt that but it's kinda fun to think about seeing him so soon.

It was a pretty good trade I thought, the 3rd was crucial, and added depth. I guess we were looking for a 2nd but no one would give that, and Sexton said we'd try to sign Leopold. So we'll see.

I don't know what they're going to do if they can sign Jay. They're 10 million under the cap right now which he would eat up a lot of but they will have holes on offense to fill with Cammelleri, Bertuzzi, and Boyd all free agents.

Honestly, I think he goes into free agency anyway. Not to say he WON'T sign with Calgary. If they do sign him, that's one hell of a defense huh?

Depends on whether or not Phaneuf decides to play good hockey again.

Yeah, I'd be really surprised if he didn't wait until Wednesday to see what his options are. As of this afternoon, he still hadn't even talked to Calgary. I imagine that will come tomorrow. He spends his summers in Edmonton and I've heard rumors he's building a house in Calgary, so the Flames have that going for them.

As for the Flames - if they do sign him, Aucoin will be looking for a new home. They will have 3 great D with Jay, Regehr, and Phaneuf. That's a lot of cap for D. They're talking about bringing a couple rookies up for the 6 and 7 spots which will save some money. I wouldn't mind seeing them ship Phanuef out (if they sign Jay) for another top forward. The guy can lay big hits and is great offensively but he was a defensive liability this year. He was a -16. To me, it looked like he didn't care. He was way too lazy on his D responsibilities. It's almost like he was forgetting what position he plays.
Zach6668
Booth was extended a qualifying offer, naturally, so he'll still be an RFA. I expect something to get done soon with them. Good for the Panthers.

McLean was put on waivers, and will presumably be bought out. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283226

Thank God, McLean was a bum. More room for Repik, though Stewart and Eminger were not given offers. Surprised me a tad bit.

Aaaand there you have it, you guys win, the problem is when anyone on the team is going to score, they are ranked something like 28th in the "goals for" department. It'll come around, I'm not Serge panicking.

that was just brutal...He HAS to get suspended for at least 3 games if not more..

Ah hell.
Speed Limit
No suspension for Richards. As a fan of this team it's pretty disheartening that there will be no ramifications besides the penalties assessed in game, but as a fan of the league and a non-biased fan it was fairly clean besides being late.
Zach6668
It wasn't a hit that was exactly against the current rules, but hits like that are what the NHL should be looking to eliminate. Why does he have to lead with his shoulder into his head? Lead into his chest and Booth doesn't end up in the hospital.
Swacker Dave
Barely hanging on to second behind the Eagles and now this happens to Booth... Can the Swackers PLEASE catch a break for a change!!!

How do you let the greatest goalie since Patrick Roy get away...?

First Luongo and now Craig Anderson

Pretty easily, Craig made it clear he wanted to have a shot at a #1 job, and as long as Vokoun is here making the money he does there was no chance of that in Florida.

I used to watch Anderson in Rochester, and I never thought he'd be anything more than a great AHL goalie or a capable NHL backup.

Last night he deflected a Sens puck into his own goal... later he has a decent rocket + tip-in goal on PP.

Didn't notice him much other than that.

His game is hindered when he's not on the PP due to the fact that he's been matched up with rookie Kulikov at times, and that kid jumps up more than Kobe Bryant.
He's also been matched with Leopold at times, but for the most part he hasn't been great defensively or offensively.
