So I'm a pretty cynical guy. I'm very jaded with hollywood, and big hollywood blockbuster movies. When I heard their was a new Indian Jones coming out, I just rolled my eyes and thought *what is harrison ford, like 65 or something? Give me a break".
Well, then I saw the trailer
Indian Jones teaser trailerand I morphed into a little kid again, just grinning and tingly with excitement. I love that movies can do that, can transform me and take me for a few moments back to my youth and I hope this movie delivers. After my star wars experience, I'm skeptical, but... hope springs eternal.
And I love Cate Blanchett in the "She wolf of the SS" role... mmm if there's one thing hotter than Nazi Dominatrix villains, it's Soviet Dominatrix villains

I had the exact same thoughts when I first heard about this movie. Infact the same thoughts were also true to Rambo. But after seeing the trailer all that excitement comes back, what a great looking throwback to the originals.

It was alright. The dialogue was o.k. but the end was lame, and I have always saved a special spot in my dark parts for movies that screw up endings.
Shia's role was just silly and pointless, not because it was supposed to be but because he can't act. He came off as none of the things he was supposed to be, and if I ever meet him I will punch him in the nuts.

I haven't seen it yet, but a friend who's opinion I respect and is also a fan of the movies sent me this review this morning:
Wow, I went and saw Indiana Jones last night. I think I would rather watch an indepth documentary about people taking dumps on each other than ever looking at that film again. I swear, at some point George Lucas went completely mad, but because he made so much money off of Star Wars he can do whatever he wants. Madness.

It wasn't a bad experience. Not as good as the other three obviously.
Cate Blanchette is good. By good I mean I want to do dirty things to the naughty soviet. Also she plays the villainess role well.
I wanted to see Treebeard/Gimli/Professor Maximillian Arturo. Too bad he wasn't there.
I thought the whole aliens thing was quite stupid until I realized a couple seconds later that this was the same guy that dealt with the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant, and a little asian kid.

First of all, wow. wow wow wow. Are you just really young or something?
You must've not seen many 80s action movies because bad guys always miss. This was an 80s action-adventure series so continuing with that kind of thing makes sense. It's a tradition many if not most action movies continue to this day.

It wasn't the best of the series obviously.
But it held to Indana Jones form. (Maybe except the silly ending.) But weren't they all quite a stretch, so I kind of forgave it.
I'm glad they didn't try to modernize it. It is what it is, and from someone who loves the original 3, I enjoyed watching it.

I saw it tonight, and I'm pretty disappointed. I liked it, but it only got a pass because of nostalgia. The story ended EXACTLY like the first X-Files movie. That shouldn't have happened. It was cheesy and dumb. Also, I'm pretty disappointed by all the CGI crap. The cool thing about Indiana Jones was always how they did all the stunts and nothing was "fake". The car chase through the Amazon was ruined for me when Shia was standing up and they started CGI'ing everything. I wanted to leave. Also the swinging in the tree with the monkeys.... awful. Groundhogs at the beginning... stupid and pointless. I guess I'm pissed off, and yet somehow was entertained.
One more thought. It's pretty clear that they wanted things to be open to keep the series going with Shia. With him almost trying on the hat at the end. But since Harrison took the hat back, maybe one more with Harrison? Then pass the torch... er hat... to Shia. I would bet some money on this happening.

The swinging from vines w/monkeys was the only part that really made me say, oh come ON. But you can't let that ruin an entire movie. I could've done with a slightly less drastic ending too, but again, I didn't let it bother me too much because the rest of the movie was pretty entertaining and true to form.
Most of the CGI I thought was done pretty well and non-invasive.

Just saw it today. first off, I enjoyed the groundhogs. why not.
the vine swinging was WAY over the top but Indiana Jones has never been about complete believability. Whatever. I thought the rest was fine although I will be having nightmares about ants for a while. Story was interesting although not as compelling as the lost ark (great cameo!) or the holy grail. Some back story on the "inter-dimensional" (how did oxley know that anyway?) aliens would have hit the spot.
I enjoyed Shia Leboof as always. Harrison Ford is a classic and Cate Blanchett was surprisingly decent as the female baddie who respects Dr. Jones' awesomeness despite herself.
frankly, this movie gets a huge boost just from the theme song. chills!
all in all, this movie was a bit over the top and bit lacking in the plot department but it still did the job. I would rank it #3 in the series....comfortably ahead of Temple of Doom (which I just never liked).....and, of course, woefully behind raiders and last crusade. Really, if this movie has a fatal flaw, it is that movies 1 and 3 in this series were so amazing that this one pales by comparison. whatever....go see it you will have a good couple hours at worst.
edit: better movie: last crusade or raiders of the lost ark? discuss.
