I've seen various odds this morning for next years superbowl winner, they go something like this.

* New England Patriots 5:2
* Dallas Cowboys 7:1
* Indianapolis Colts 8:1
* Green Bay Packers 9:1
* San Diego Chargers 10:1
* Jacksonville Jaguars 10:1
* New York Giants 12:1
* Seattle Seahawks 20:1
* Pittsburgh Steelers 20:1
* New Orleans Saints 20:1

I've seen a few that had the Colts and Cowboys odds flip flopped, but it's still funny the defending champs aren't a favorite in their own division.

Also the Patriots might get another shot at going undefeated. Apparently the record for next years opponents during the regular season is a combined .387 winning %.

If it happens I won't even acknowledge it until the Superbowl is over.

God I want next season to start tomorrow. I'm just happy they have a *chance* at redeeming themselves.

Have you seen the Pats scheduele next year? That is absolutely ridiculous.. They once again have a good shot at going 16-0 with that piece of shit scheduele.

Well one thing we know is everything changes once the season starts. So the winning %'s from this year might be crap, but teams develop chemistry, rookies make impacts, injuries happen, etc.etc.

Point being who knows how well any team will do next season.

*I do like the schedule obv, it just doesn't really mean anything until they step on the field. Don't we all know that by now? smile.gif

Home: Buffalo, Miami, N.Y. Jets, Denver, Kansas City, Arizona, St. Louis, Pittsburgh
Away: Buffalo, Miami, N.Y. Jets, Oakland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Indianapolis

4 trips to the west coast plus they have to go back into Indy again. I'm not so sure I like that. Also a lot of things are going to happen between now and September. We don't even know who will be on the Patriots by that time. Moss could even be gone.

So so true. Also, what the Pats defense will look like next year is anybodies guess. It could end up being one of the worst in the league, we have no clue. Probably won't, just saying.

Our boys are getting old. sad.gif

*Overdramatic, just agreeing with your point.

I know this isn't the Patriots 2008 season thread, but the defense is not that bad off imo. Don't forget Colvin will be back at LB. Because he was gone Seau and Bruschi were forced to play way more than they could handle. With Colvin back Bruschi/Seau can platoon opposite Thomas in the middle and hopefully stay fresh and healthy. I think they'll use the 7th pick (if they don't trade it) for a DB that can likely contribute right away.

I'm more worried about which WR they're going to lose.

Right right, completely forgot about Colvin. And yeah, Bill will definitely be picking up some new blood.

About the wide receivers.......I would hope they'd keep everyone.....but even if they let someone go, aren't we pretty well stacked? I mean, Washington is on special teams, but could easily step in and be a 3 or 4 guy right?

SD, Indy and Pitt are all possible losses based on the current team makeup. What happens in the off season via free agency and the draft will absolutly impact things, but the Pats are still going to be an elite team.

Also, I think the Pats defense was improved by how good the offense was. They could afford to take risks being ahead as often as they were.

Seattle is 20-4 at home the past three years. I don't think they should be considered a cupcake.

That's a lot of wins against the worst division in the NFC though. Maybe a Seahawk fan wants to jump in here but I seem to hear them complaining a lot about a horrible WR core, and a lack of consistent RB play. It's going to take more than just Matt Hassleback to pull off a win against the top tier teams even at home.

I don't think so. They were only a wildcard team.

One good thing about the Giants' victory is the obvious resurgence the NFC East thread will get. Not that it was dying or anything but this definitely added some juice.

You can chop it up however you want, but that linebacking corps is old enough to have sat with Jesus at the last supper.

Seau and Brushi in particular. I do think they will both be back for one more year, and ideally those two will be sharing one position. They might bring in an inexpensive veteran free agent to add a little more depth.

I just thought of something that would really suck. What if they go undefeated in the regular season again and then lose in the Superbowl again? They wouldn't be able to shake that until all of us who witnessed it have left this earth.

That'd just be sad.

The Jets on the road isnt a pushover either
Yes they sucked this year but you never know with them
Pitt isnt a guranteed win either
I wouldnt count on them going undefeated

I seriously think that would leave a number of people dead from heart attacks/strokes, probably including a few people on the team.

I think the Giants # is set about right.. I wouldn't bet on them repeating.

Yeah they are still a long shot to win. No doubt. I feel though that is just one more reason that made this win so sweet.

I dont think the Pats will make a run at undefeated next year. And funny as it sounds, whenever they get that first loss, they'll probably be relieved so they can concentrate on winning the Super Bowl.

And we know they dont control their schedule, but theyre in the easiest division in the NFL, its just their luck.....
Miguel McHarris
Pats are getting older, and it's very difficult to lose the Super Bowl then go on to win it the next year. I don't like the Cowboys either, they can't win a playoff game. Colts look decent at 8:1.

Vikings best long shot, GB will not repeat what they did this year, Chicago has no QB and the Lions are the Lions. If Vikings get into the playoffs they should have home field.

The Vikings are the best team in the NFL without a passing game. Their QB is AWFUL and their WRs aren't a whole hell of a lot better.

Green Bay is young and pretty much everyone is coming back. Sorry about your bad luck.

If you cant throw you cant win in today's NFL.

that simple.

Tavarris Jackson strikes me as a guy who might put it all together when he is 34 like Rick Gannon.

In the CFL, perhaps.

Is it sick that the Draft is pretty much my favorite part of the NFL "season", btw?

depends who you are a fan of. for the cardinals fans it is probably the only football highlight of their lives. that was kinda a cheap shot I just spanked myself.

It is a bit unseemly that we drool over 21-23 year olds but at least we are better than people who obsess over college recruiting. (shiite we do that too right?)

all seriousness, the draft is fun....I love it, I watch the whole first day like a sicko and it is a good time. I think this year I will get my wife to make mini hotdogs.

I droll over 18-23 year olds at the mall all the time!

Ooooooooh, you were talking about football players? Carry on....
Vandees
Yeah, why aren't the Giants the favorites for the SB next year?!? A repeat SB champ has happened like 5 times in 40+ years, so it should be a lock.

I like the Packers, Colts, and Saints with those numbers. Saints look really good at 20-1. Couple of defensive additions and they could be scary.
mrpaddyx
16-0 in the regular season was a curse, the team barely turned up to the post season. I think 12-4 or 13-3 is more realistic than a perfect season.
I was going to pick the Cardinals or the Falcons are outside bets but since San Diego have brought Volek back I think they are clear favourites.
BigDMcGee
Colts and chargers seem like good values. Patriots are great but.. man, they are old. I also think the Giants are a great value, they have an EXTREMELY young team, and they won a super bowl about 2-3 years ahead of schedule, so I don't think they are extremely likely to go back to back, 12-1 seems like a good deal. I guess it will largely depend if eli is for real. But their defense is still going to be ferocious.
