For sure. With softball in full swing and the weather practically begging me to golf daily, I've been away from the gym quite a bit. Only went twice last week, and again last night.
That's probably going to be the way it is for a while, but I'm fine with it. I still bust my ass when I'm there.

bunch of losers I tell ya. I've been running every other day even with a knee that apparently doesn't like running, but that ain't nothin a knee brace, a bunch of tylenol, and a bag of ice can't cure. at least for a little while I guess.
I had actually recently moved down in weight and up in reps for my lifting, but for some reason I just didn't feel like I was doing anything, even with higher reps and an extra circuit, so I'm back to higher weights. still trying to constantly get faster though. I think thats the main thing.
also, I've been running a few times with this girl. she was the one that actually got me into running, but I've only gone with her a few times out of all the times I've ran. at first I was pretty out of shape and actually had to try to keep up with her, but yesterday afternoon when I went with her, we finished our mile, walked a lap, and I then ran 2 more laps quicker than she could walk 1, so score on that.
(no I did not score)

What did you go down in weight for? Looking for more fitness/toning than strength/guns?

I,ve been away from unrestricted internet for a while and I haven't been able to post my progress.
i was only able to work out twice last week, but I got 2 go tennis sessions in there too so overall it wasn't too bad of a week.
I'm going tonight (and then I'm going to go see the hulk). My official weight is 278lbs, kinda of a downer to see those nmber but whatever, I'm definitely in the right mindframe to loose some pounds.
My eating habits are already way better. I got a blender and I'm eating an uber packed smoothie every day when I get home.
Anyways, I'm going to jump on my bike and head to the gym.

yeah I had been doing pretty heavy weights for a while and I didn't really want to get any bigger, but I still had (have really) some more fat I needed to burn, so I tried the ole high intensity, high rep thing for a while. thing is, it took me longer, and didn't really feel like I was getting very much of a workout, and I didn't even move down that much in weight. I actually got the idea by watching training videos of randy couture and rich franklin.
I've also recently (monday) gone to a damn near zero carb diet for the next couple of weeks. turns out its actually better as far as taste, but the prep time is a bitch and damn its expensive.

Yeh, it's not easy tryin to do 2 things at once - I think the best way is to split exercise between pure CV and pure gun sculpting. The diet's important obv, i'd try and use a protein shake on the days you do weights, but lay off it on CV days

Well I got back to the gym last night, did a light total body workout, walked/streteched/abs then shot some hoops to loosen up my arms.
Now that I have some stability back into my work life, I can get back to a normal schedule of sorts.
I really need to lose weight because the fatter I get the shorter I look. I am just under 6 foot and I look 3-4 inches shorter than my buddy who is just over 6 foot. Width is deceptive.
Maybe I should stop wearing horizontal stripes.

so i'm doing
the cover 4 month program and I jsut finished week 3. Week 1 and 2 were transitional for me, finding the weights that are good for me for each exercise, find the time to go tot the gym, so I think I only went 5 times but played a bit of tennis too. This 3rd week has been great. I went 4 days and pushed myself harder, moving up in weights and doing more CV. I don't know what's best but now I pretty much do 30 minutes of CV then 30min to 1 hour of weights or exercises. It works for me so I guess thats what counts right?
Diet has been solid, I only drank 2 nights this week and and I'm slowly changing from beer to gin and 7 up

. During the week I eat exclusively 100% heathy meals and good snacks inbetween.
I bought some protein supplement too, did some reasearch and found a good health store near my place that had EAS 100% whey on special, but I messed up on the size of bucket i got and didn't end up getting great value, but it's a start. The chocolate tastes good. I don't want to beef up too much but I think that these protein shakes are good if you just want to lose weight and get in shape, it's not nescessarily just for bodybuilders right?

I don't think i'd take it to lose weight TBH, muscle is heavier than fat so you're more likely to gain weight thru muscle development. Protein shakes definately make a difference to help you build muscle, you should try and have one within 1/2 hr of finishing your weights session

Ya I don't care too much about the numbers really. I just want to shape up and loose the belly and love handles. So I figure the more muscle I build the less fat I will have, right? sice mucle is developed through fat. I'm down to about 170 from 178 so far though, so that's encouraging. i drink them either before or after my workouts, usually before because I read it was better for muscle development than drinking them after, but people here seem to think differently. The bucket says to take 1-4 portions a day so I sometimes take one before and one after.

TBH i'm not totally sure as my metabolisms fairly good so I don't have to try really *that* hard to not put on weight - with doing nothing for nearly a year tho i've got abit of a belly for my size (about 5'11, 150ish) so have being trying to shift that, whilst building muscle again
For me, when tryin to lose a bit of fat and gain muscle I've been doing cardio thru bike riding and weights on different days, but only having protein on the weights days - i'm no personal trainer, but i've been working out for years, as I understand it (and how excercise effects my body) building muscle and burning fat come from different heart rates. For burning fat you want high intensity low load and longer periods of time - so in my mind, if you're doing a CV workout like that, it's best not to provide it a source of 'food - protein' to burn, rather don't take the protein and burn fat instead
Any particular part of body/muscle range you wanna build up?

i'd love to have abs of steel but I will be satisfied if this pot belly goes away. I wouldn't mind building up my arms a bit. I figure I got to burn fat to get rid of the belly and I'm doing and overall weight work out to build some muscle. Let's say at the end of the summer I do actually burn off most of my excess fat, by then I should have some good looking muscles and maybe even some abs. I just want to be in overall shape without looking like a roidmonkey.

Cool - A good way to get definition is through lifting body weight, it's the best way to get 'cut' really - anything like pressups, tricep dips, pullups is great for definition.
If you want bigger arms you gotta remember to work the tricep as well as biceps. Tri's are actually stronger and when worked right will be the biggest part of your arm. Pressups are good for triceps, hand in the centre of your chest, together, legs out to balance and the one that works best for me is on your knuckles (on carpet) with arms at your side, palms facing inwards - does upper arm well too
Did a bike ride today, weather was good, average speed was a bit down but i've not done any CV for over a week so pretty expected. Hopefully it's nice weather 2moro and i'll do some weights

7-Jul-08 Day 17 Bikeriding 15min / yardwork 1hr
8-Jul-08 Day 18 Bikeriding 20min / lifted weights 30min
I'm getting married August 1st, so my first goal is to keep this up until that day and then try to continue it the rest of the summer.
The last few days I've also started to count calories to keep it off. I've only lost 4-5lbs so far, but I feel great and I think if I start eating right it'll help me get back in shape. Started at 174.5, now at 170.

Got a new gym membership where I will be able to go 7 days a week if I want. My previous gym only allowed me 3. I was pretty pissed about that because 1. 3 days just isn't enough to keep me motivated. Once I hit that time where I have 2 days in between I lose the willpower 2. I had to either do it Tu,Th, Sa or M, W, F. Neither of which works. So this way the I can go when I can without worrying and it's $13 cheaper a month for both of us...
So I started my regime yesterday. Going to start just getting back into shape and then start working on a program. I will try (HA) and keep track of what I do in here....

My fav machine 3 reps 110 110 100
Back 3 reps 50 50 50

Nice one for gettin back into it. Having a day off is actually beneficial if you're trying to build muscle as it lets the tissue repair - if you wanna go each day you're best breaking your workout into muscle groups (the best way anyways I think) - so monday: arms and legs, tuesday: chest + back etc
I'm guessin you mean sets (amount of times exercise done) instead of reps (number of repetitions of the exercise)? As 3 is pretty low for reps. If you wanna build muscle you need to get your weight level so that you can just do 3 sets of 10 (or maybe less)

I haven't worked out since last thursday morning and I've been eating like a sumo wrestler all week. i'm fat, but its been nice.
I also don't think i will be lifting weights much any more, at least for a while. while at the beach, I saw a few guys walking on the beach all muscled out and buff and what not, and I couldn't help but laugh at how silly they looked. I'm just gonna concentrate on running and biking for the next couple of months I believe.

Wow...I should've posted in this thread for the past 8 months but I haven't.
The weight training program I am on is stronglifts 5x5. Actually I'm gonna be done with it in about a week. I've only gained about 8 or so pounds of muscle (146lbs to 155lbs...not all of that is muscle though). Too bad I can't really tell the difference, other people have but not really me :/
Has anyone tried the P90x training program? I was looking at that stuff yesterday and I talked to an old friend who happened to torrent the program and he's gonna give me the program (or burn another one). He's only been doing it for a couple of weeks but he told me that it's really intense.

I got smashed 2 nights in a row and ate some deep deep fried food after on both occasions. I haven't gone to the gym in 3 days, so this week I'm going to make up for the great week-end with some hardcore work outs.
I acutally ended up swimming in a public foutain downtown at like 4 am with a bunch of random people. I fell onto one of the water jets and I have a perfectly round welt on my stomach lol, I took a small chunck of flesh out of my pinky too, sucking on a bloody finger when you're drunk isn't very pleasant.

There was some P90x talk a while back in here. Not sure if anyone that posted about it has posted lately though.
