I ate, drank, and slept a lot this weekend. I also did nothing physical. Except bang my special lady friend.

Oh yea....bump.

Been a bad week for me. Was going to go sunday morning, but came down very sick. Gym's closed today. I'll get back on a good schedule Tuesday, resuming week 2, phase II
El Guapo
Missed a couple days due to foot an holiday, resuming tonight.

So I started working out again today, ran 2 miles and then lifted. I'm not sure if I want to go the P90x route as 90 days seems like a huge commitment and very daunting. For now I'm just going to do light cardio/lift on MWF and heavy cardio Tu/Thurs.

Atta boy.

I was looking in a magazine today and found myself motivated (among other things) by the attractive men found within. I think I too shall begin an excercise program of some kind. I think I'll start with cardio and build up to some light weight training. Im not big into weights. I really just want to lose the fat. The thinner the better. Sit ups of course. I saw some dance workout program thing, I cant remember the name, but I remember the basic moves. It looked cool, I might do it.

Edit: That last part was a joke. Im not gay.
jeff_536
Was sick Sunday/Monday..lost five pounds.

Silver lining, right?

Back on the workout regimen tonite, start over Phase II, Week II.

If i start slacking, someone kick me in the ass, k?

I said 'kick', suited, but thanks.

Loismustdie
Down 16 pounds the past month, then 4 the past 5 days kicking it up a notch via Zantrax 3, which is a nice boost. My workouts consist of hitting golf balls and racuetball, and that is it till I lose about 35 pounds, then I will switch to Creatine based products and start hitting weights.

I'm glad my grotesqueness amuses you.

I haven't really been able to get a real workout in all week. on monday morning I re-screwed up my shoulder(s) that I messed up in october and they've been hurting since. have a doctors appointment today to get them looked at, hopefully be a quick fix (ie cortisone shot or something). but I had been planning a rest week for next week anyways, so I just changed it to this week. now, if all goes well at the shaman today, I'm going to move up in weight on monday and switch my daily snacks from fruit and veggies to protein shakes and try to up the cardio on my off days too. I hate this point in a workout schedule, where you're aaaalmost at your goal, but not quite. it is by far the hardest part.
Suited_Up
Worked out yesterday, not sore at all today, kinda weird for me.

Dropped weight down a bit, but still felt hard enough at the time.

Thats what she said.

I ran yesterday. My legs hurt. But my mind is strong.
jeff_536
I've been sick as a dog since Sunday morning. No workouts, but no eating, either.

My right knee has also flared up, feels like there's an impingement or something in the joint. stiffens up and there's a pretty sharp pain when i first stand up and put weight on it. So that's not good.

Hopefully i'll get back on track monday, give myself the weekend to feel better, maybe go for a walk or something.

I've been inspired by Jeff and others in this thread.
I'm going to improve my health. Gave up smoking 10 days ago, it was tough but I feel good now.
I'm at 105kg or 231pounds with a 110cm 0r 41 inch gut. I'm 185cm or 6 foot 1 inch and I turn 35 on the 11th of june.
I'm going to mainly lift weights with a bit of cardio on an eliptical machine.
I'm setting myself a tough goal of being at 85kgs by my birthday.

glglgl.

My main problem is drinking at least every weekend, maybe a day during the week too. I imagine that can't help too much.

If I could get in the gym regularly it wouldn't be as bad.... I wish biggest loser was on every day, cause that shit fires me up.

yeah alcohol is my biggest downfall. I know for a fact that if I didn't drink I would already be downright skinny. but to me, there are just some things you don't give up. I will still put croutons in my salad, and I will still drink 30 beers in a weekend. thats just the way it is.

and I've seen the biggest loser, but what really gets me fired up is the ultimate fighter. that shit makes me want to work out for hours. and it makes me want my own $50,000 gym. that would be sweeeeeeet.
ShakeZuma
so I guess everybody's just decided to be fat, huh. thats fine. makes me look better.

well as I mentioned, or maybe I didn't mention, I don't know, I went to the doctor on friday for my shoulders and it turns out I have tendinitis. so whats the obvious next step? moving up in weight, thats what!

but really, I'm increasing weight this week, starting off slow so I don't hurt myself, and starting back on NO Explode again. that stuff is the tits man. I'll probably do the high weight for a month and a half or so, then see what happens. right now I'm listing out all the freeweight exercises I know to try to revamp my lifting program. I had no idea I knew that many exercises. this is going to be harder than I thought.

Ok so I ride a bike as my primary mode of transportation so I get a lot of workout on my legs. I'm skinny as a twig but am starting to develop a beer belly. One problem though, I had spinal sugery when I was young and there is a metal rod holding my spine in place so I have no movement in my back making sit-up impossible. What is another simple way to work out my stomach?

doing situps won't make you lose your 'beer belly'....as you exercise, you lose weight proportionally over your entire body.

However, if your goal is to strengthen your abs/core, that's a different matter.

With your medical condition, you're probably best off getting professional training/medical advice. There are low-stress ab exercises out there, however.

It's not a medical condition in the sense that I can do something that will hurt me or strain me too much, I just can't physically bend my back. I don't really want to go to a trainer cause I don't want to invest the time/money. Know of book or something?

What jeff said, u can't spot reduce fat.

For an ab exrcise, u can't beat knee/leg lifts. There are peices of equipment that support your back, u hold yourself on your fore-arms and hold on to hand grips. Alternatively you can hang from a bar. Lift your knees up and pull them as close to your chest as you can and flex your abs, always lower slowly and try not to swing if hanging from a bar. As you get stronger u can do the same with your legs straight. Do as many as you can with you legs straight, then do knee lifts to really finish off those abs. you will feel it the next day after you do these for the first time.

on of the best ab exercises I know (read: really hurts) is the plank. you lie face down and support yourself with your forearms and tips of your toes while basically holding yourself up with your abs.

there's also the side plank, where you do the same thing on your side to work your obliques.

yes, I really want one of these. they aren't that expensive either, like 150 or something like that, and you can do a ton of bodyweight exercises with them. I need to get one.

That looks just like mine. The only thing I don't like about it is the dip handles are a bit wide and I like to do dips as a tricept exercise keeping my elbows close to my body. With wide handles it forces your elbows out and makes it more of a chest exercise. If the handles were closer it would then make it a close shave when doing leg/knee lifts. Now you have made think, I might modify it.

I just found you guys in this thread and wanted to chime in.

I'm 35 and have slowly gone from 195lbs at 25 to a recent high of 222 with a 40 inch waist after Christmas. I've been a gym donator (I have a membership for 3 years, during which I went like 25 times), but I recently changed gyms to WoW with a friend, and have been really focusing on losing weight and getting in shape.

I joined last Monday, 3/24, and weighed in at 211lbs that morning before breakfast. Since then I've gone to the gym every day I've been a member. Last week, I did a half hour of cardio after work on 3/24, and then woke up at 5am (ugh, usually 7:15) to meet my friend on Tuesday. I did a full hour of cardio on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, alternating between the stationary bike, the cross country skiing machine (this thing is a killer), and the treadmill.

I also tried hard every day to be conscious of what I was eating and how much of it. I cut out sweet snacks entirely, replacing them with fruit, and have stuck to chicken, veggies, and salads, with a 100 calorie breakfast bar and some cereal here and there, as well as some Fatburger at the Borgata Saturday night (mmm, Fat Deal Cheeseburger, Fries, and Diet Coke, nice splurge!).

I weighed in at 206 on Sunday morning.

Sunday, my friend and I started a routine together, that involves 1 hour of cardio seven days a week, and full body weight training 3 nights after work. We do the cardio at 5:30am, and the weights Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The cardio program is currently 20 minutes random hill on the bike, 10 minutes on the crosscountry skier, and 30 minutes on the treadmill, all at 75-80% of max HR. We'll do this for 2 weeks and change it up.

The weight program is designed to start slow and build a strength and flexibilty base, get used to the form, and experience full range of motion while progressively increasing intensity. We're doing chest press, seated row, shoulder press, bicep curl, tricep extension, leg extension, leg curl, seated calf raises, and crunches.

Week 1, we're doing a warmup set of the lightest weight on the machine for 16 reps, and then 1 set of 16 reps of a higher weight. Week 1 is designed to find the weight we can't lift for 16 full reps, to find a working weight.

Week 2 will be the same process, 1 warmup set, 1 heavier set, but for 10-12 reps to find a weight we can't lift 12 times.

Week 3 will then increase to 2 sets, and we have it mapped out to be doing 3 sets for week 5-8 before we change up the exercises.

I weighed in this morning at 204. I have a ton more energy than I did 10 days ago, despite waking up at 5:00am every day. I'm eating much better, because I'm reluctant to give away calories, and I'm in a better mood. I traditionally handle stress poorly, and that's improved as well. I drink 4-5 bottles of water a day, and have cut 8-10 cans of diet soda down to 4.

In short, I feel great! To top it all off, I'm playing better poker, too!

So, I'll be joining you guys in the thread if you don't mind, trying to stay motivated and get in the best shape of my life.

Thanks.

you know, I hadn't thought about the dip part being kinda far apart, but now that I look at it I see what you mean. I mainly want it for leg raises and pull ups, but the dips are good too. you think there is any way to easily modify the one you have? if not, are there any ones out there that are adjustable at a reasonable price?

congrats and good luck. it sounds like you've got one of the best things you can have in your workout to stick with it, and that is variety. I know I have to change up my workouts at least once a month or I get super bored with it. switching up next week actually. I'll be working this week on coming up with a solid, but different workout routine. its not an easy thing to do.

In high school, we used to do these during warm-ups in conditioning class. We'd start on both forearms (stomach down), rotate to one side after fifteen seconds, rotate back to both forearms (stomach up), and then rotate to the other side for the last fifteen seconds. Basically, you just did a full roll while only letting your feet and forearms touch the ground for 60 seconds. It's depressing to think of how "easy" I used to think that was.

I have been working out, mostly abs and going on walks with my wife, but we suspended out gym membership yesterday for 6 months, because the day care wont take our daughter until she is 6 months old, and I was paying $130 a month for something I was not using.

So its back to the P90X only for the next 6 months, that and other home workout stuff.

Not really, we work opposite schedules. We would never see each other. The gym is 20 minutes from my house, so going and working out, cleaning up etc. is a 2 hour excursion.I work in the morning to late afternoon to early evening. My wife is a hair stylist so she works like 1-9. SO I would basically be paying 130 a month to be able to go on Sundays, and a random day here and there. So for the time being I have enough equipment at home.
