Last night. 6 miles on the bike in 15 minutes at level 7 and 8. Then Treadmill for 23 minutes at 4mph.
Going to do some trail running tonight, so that should be interesting .. but I'm not sure of the distance so i will just keep track of time.

I usually alternate barbell bench press and dumbbell bench press every other week. I've gotten to a weight with dumbbells that I can hardly get it up without a spotter :insertpenisjoke: Do you guys have any suggestions for how to move past this or are my arms too weak compared to my chest?

I came down with mild case of puking my guts out yesterday so I'm a little weak at the moment. I'm 50/50 on going tonight. I'm pretty sure my new shoes are coming today so that will probably make me want to go try them out even if I have to just do a short distance at a slow pace.
Being sick is stupid. I hadn't thrown up from non-drinking related activities in a long-ass time.

I went to the gym yesterday because, fuck being sick. Decided to run 5k, did it in 22:30. In a perfect world I could just multiply that time by two to figure out how long the Bolder Boulder should take me this year, but I don't think I could sustain that pace for another 5k. Finished up with five sets of 25 push ups.
Then I arrived home to find that my new shoes had been delivered while I was at the gym. The feel super-light so I'm curious to see how much different they feel tonight. The plan for tonight is 25 minutes and then 200 abs.
I'm also having allergy problems at the moment so this week pretty much sucks dong overall.

That's pretty awesome that you're still crushing it while you're sick, hope you feel better soon!
Today was my 10th session with a trainer (only 50 more to go!). We gave it pretty hard again today as we usually do, she told me I'm one of favourites to work out because she can actually push me, unlike some of her other clients, so that felt pretty good. I really do try to give her everything I have when I'm there even though it really sucks balls at times.
Friday's a holiday, so we have to work out tomorrow which sucks because it's cardio day and today was legs, so I'll be struggling without the day off in between.

I'm weird like that, for some reason I torture myself more when I don't feel well because my brain thinks it will help me get better quicker. I'm dumb.
So after getting one-sixth of the way through your program, do you feel like you're progressing as you'd like?
Just get through tomorrow and use the weekend to recover. It might suck, but the days off in between are your reward.

Yeah I'm feeling great about it. I still have a long way to go obviously, but I'm slowly but surely seeing results. I wish the belly fat would go away quicker but I realize that's going to be the last place I'm going to see real results. Today, I looked at my knees and was like "wtf", but it just looked funny because I can see the bones there now.
I'm going to air out my hockey equipment and maybe try getting on the ice next weekend and see how that feels. I'd LOVE to get back playing again, it's been quite a while!

sit down on bench with dumbbells upright on thighs, when you lie down on the bench, use your thighs to help kick it up to your chest and voila!

Yea that's how I do it but I still have trouble getting it up for the first rep. I'll just have to find a workout partner.
It was 50 degrees today so I ran outside. It felt so good to be out there instead of on a treadmill. I ran 6 miles in about 50 min. I also did my lower body workout and 20 minutes of ab work.

You're not douchy, you just pointed out why I do them at home. I stretch/run/stretch at the gym, then come home and do the push ups.
Mostly because I'm a pansy and I'm like, "Fu
ck doing any more work right now" when I finish running. So the drive home is a nice little buffer between run/post-run activities.
Tonight I went for 25 minutes and got 3.44 miles. A little slower than last week, but I'm still happy with it.

I realized last night why I really can't run outside. Apparently when I don't have a treadmill telling me exactly how fast I'm running, I go WAY too fast. When I got home from the gym and found my new shoes waiting last night, I pretty much had to take them for a run around the block to test them out. I was really winded after basically 1/4 of a mile. That's not cool.

I don't have any goals to be super ripped or anything. Basically I'd love to be 210 by the end of May, and then after that I'd like to get to under 200, then eventually 185 or so, and toned. I'm not really sure of a good timeline for all this, so after my 60 sessions are up, we'll see where I'm at and if I need more training or if I can get to where I want on my own.

Did some trail running last night. It was more brutal than I thought it would be. Ran for 55 minutes and I think I covered around 4 miles or so. My legas are pretty beat this morning. The run is a 350 ft elevation change. You go 1 mile down and run a mile, then 1 mile back up and another mile back to the car. I think I am going to add this once a week to mix in with the normal treadmill, swimming, and bike work at the gym.

Today, I wasn't hurting like I thought I would be, so the cardio wasn't horrible. Warmed up for about 15 minutes doing some light arm lifting, then 20 minutes on the "arc-trainer?" or something, 20 minutes stepper, then 10 minute cool down on the bike.

This morning was really frustrating. I usually lift at 10:45 and my apartment's gym is usually empty. There may be a girl or two on the ellipticals, but I'm usually the only one lifting. This morning there was a guy showing a girl how to lift. He was giving horrible advice like doing squats and telling her to make sure her knees went ahead of her toes. There was also another guy there who I was sharing a bench with. Since I was sharing I was alternating between skull crushers and reverse cable pull. I went back to the bench to do my third set of skull crushers and after my second rep I felt like the left side was much heavier than the left. I did one more rep and the weights on the right side fell off causing the bar to drop to the left. It just about ripped my shouler out of its socket. Apparently the guy helping the girl took off the right clamp because "he didn't think I was using it." I wanted to throw his head through the wall. I'm already pretty jacked up from lifting and it took all of my self control to not flip out on him. Granted I should have noticed that the clip was missing, but come on, you have to notice that I'm alternating between two different lifts. I really need a private gym in my home when I graduate. I don't do well working out around others.

People's knees do track a bit over the toes with a high bar squat, especially in tall people

Went and did a cardio today, 30 minutes cross trainer and 20 minutes on the stepper. I really pushed myself, went up to level 7 on the cross trainer and kept up a constant speed of 6.8 (normally I do level 5 at like 6.4), then did 15 minutes on a level I'm comfortable at on the stepper (7) then cranked it up to level 10 for the last 5 minutes which was brutal but I got 'er done.
I had a craving I couldn't control last night, but it's not that bad. I went and got a spicy chicken burger from Wendy's (I think 420 calories, 15g of fat), didn't get fries or a frosty. It was soooo good!

The gym was closed over the weekend. Plus, I was pretty busy and the weather wasn't nice enough to run outside. Back at it tonight, though. Six weeks left before the race, so I really need to start getting a good idea of the actual pace I can keep up for 10k. Running hard for 30 minutes and being exhausted by the end is nice, but it doesn't give me a realistic idea of what I can do for the last two miles of the race.
I think I'm going to slow it up a bit this week and try to get an idea of how hard I can go and keep it up for the entire race.

Well I finally worked out 3 times in a week last week. That should help get me back to where I want to go to the gym. I feel like crap today because of a sinus infection and I have class tonight but I still at this moment hope to get to work out after.
I have decided that Tuesdays are the weigh in and gut measurement day. I don't plan on losing that much weight as I figure that I will lose fat but gain muscle, but I would like to stay within a range. Though this month I am doing cardio only except for one day where I will do some weight training. Last Tuesday we bought a scale and I was at 176. I hopped on this morning and I was 175.5. Woot, but tomorrow will be the official weigh in.

Yo, there's almost no research that I can find with legit science backing it up that suggests that if you don't get a protein shake within 30 minutes you are really slowing your progress. I've heard that anything within 2 hours you should be ok, so I wouldn't fret too hard. i'd be glad to be proven wrong if anybody can back up their claims tho.

I have low, low, low expectations. I'll give it a shot out of curiosity but if it isn't some miraculously good beer I doubt I'll be drinking too many of these in my life.
Sidenote: One of my most disappointing beer experiences was ordering a Bud Select because I thought it was supposed to be a microbrew-type beer and finding out it...wasn't.
Ran 5k tonight at a brisk but manageable pace. Finished in 22:35 and still had a lot in the tank so that was encouraging.
Did random ab exercises afterward and will replace those with push ups tomorrow.

I am hoping to be able to pull out a 10 minute mile by the time the triathlon comes along. I followed this up with some stretching. I really need to work on my flexibility. I can barely touch my toes and everything feels tight. I may look into taking some yoga classes after the triathlon. Anyone here do Yoga?

What do you guys think of mgd 64? i'm thinking of trying it. my fave are coronas but they have 148 calories per bottle.
It has a microscopic amount of alcohol. My buddy and I split a case and never even caught a buzz.

Got back to the gym yesterday after three days off. Got in 36 laps in the pool and then did 22 minutes on the treadmill at 4 mph. I am still just trying to get legs used to running long distances. I am hoping to be able to pull out a 10 minute mile by the time the triathlon comes along. I followed this up with some stretching. I really need to work on my flexibility. Everytime I hear the word yoga, I think it'd be something I should do, but I've never really looked into it. I think it would help a lot if I get back into hockey. Btw, I've got my equipment airing out, machine washed the stuff I could, and am considering going out on Sunday. I'm a bit nervous of sucking though, and the group had 6 spares on each side the other week I heard, so I'm not sure if I want to be the guy who comes back after like 5 years and gives the regs even less ice time. My dad's part of the group though so I don't think it'd be a huge deal.
Been lazy all day today and slept in, but going to go put in a cardio now!

Well, that's disappointing.

Also, my knee caved really nasty in a squat today and it hurts now, sigh. First time I think.
I agree but I would try to get something in me in about an hour anyway. I just have to eat or drink a shake to feel better after a workout or running.
In other news..
Good- 10 weeks in, lost 17 lbs and have made amazing progress with how much i'm lifting and running now. Cardio is really making strides on both speed and incline. I've lost about 3 inches around the belly and alot of my jeans are now baggy.
Bad- Chiroprachter broke my rib (tiny facture) and tore a muscle (intercoasal) in my chest. I'm probably down for a week totally and then no upper body for 4 to 6 weeks. GODDDAMAMAMMAAMIITTTITITITI

In the last 2 or 3 weeks I have eaten like total shit. Pizza multiple times, fast food because it was late and I wanted something quick and I gained freaking like 6-8 pounds. So my wife and I together are making a concerted effort to eat better. I am going to kindof follow the southbeach sutff for a bit to shed some lbs quick and start walking again with the family, which is really brutal, it is about a 4 mile walk up and down really steep hills. After a couple weeks of that I will get back to the gym.
I am going to Disneyland with the kids in 3 weeks, and no way I can trek around that park all day at this weight. Especially with my back problems. Hopefully I can get under 200 by then.

I think this year I will get back into golf. Mainly because I used to play and enjoyed it but it does serve as exercise. So I was told that this would be an appropriate place to post about it.

That's what I always think as well. I actullay did Yoga 7 years ago when I was in a martial arts class. but we only did some basic poses and I thought it was lame. A buddy of mine does Yoga all the time and he loves it. I think i need to give it another chance.

Good call. I tend to not do as much traditional exercising in the summer and just use walking 18 holes a few times a week as my replacement.

Seems like we've done almost exactly the same thing. Brutal about the chiropractor though, I thought those guys knew what they were doing

Golf is GREAT exercise! I'd do more of it, but I get pretty upset with shooting 120 every round, even on easy courses. I get worse every year, even tried lessons last year and they didn't help at all.

I might look more into this in a few months, I'd like to see where after my sessions that I've paid for are over and worry more about flexibility after I'm in somewhat decent shape.

After a little investigation, MGD 64 is 2.8% alcohol. For reference, most light beers are in the low 4's and microbrews are usually at least 5.0.
So, if your aim is to get drunk, you'll consume just as many calories as you normally would since you have to make up for the low alcohol content.
