Same people nominated 3 times in original song.

I haven't seen any of these movies. Why are most popular movies shit, then all the good ones hardly seen by anyone?

Why?

The audience
donk4life
The general population wouldn't understand or appreciate a movie like NCFOM or TWBB..
bigkg
Apparently Jonny Greenwood's score wasn't eligible for an Oscar because the Academy deemed it "unoriginal" claiming he had recorded some of the music years ago.

Because the majority of people are addicted to formulaic movies/music/tv.

Honestly, I don't think it was great as a standalone. Could you actually imagine buying the soundtrack and just listening to it around the house or trying to fall asleep? It's very Stanley Kubrickish, which means it kind of grinds into your soul. It was perfect for the movie, which one could say what the oscar is for, but I totally understand why it wasn't nominated.

Well my other post pointed out it wasn't eligible, but I see your point.

There was plenty of music that wasn't Kubrickish and very Radioheadish which means I could listen to it all day.

I really really really hope Juno doesn't win anything. I didn't like it much at all. No Country For Old Men I think should sweep it, but I think There Will Be Blood will (I haven't seen it, but PTA is the man, so that's not a bad thing.) Atonement has a good chance for best picture and all that obviously, but I really want one of the other two to win.

I still can't believe that Klitz from the Girl Next Door was the preacher... man he did good. It's sad he didn't get nominated for actor. I guess he can always call Emile Hirsch, also from The Girl Next Door, who got snubbed for Into The Wild.

Juno

You sir, are clearly addicted to the theatre.

Then again, you and I are tied, I've only seen The Bourne Ultimatum. I have WANTED to watch most of those, if that counts, which I don't think it does.
digitalmonkey
Eddie Vedder's soundtrack to Into the Wild deserved recognition IMO.
timwakefield
For once I've actually seen good number of the nominated films. DDL has this puppy in the bag, and I think Cate Blanchett should as well. She is the fuggin shiznit in I'm Not There.

BY THE WAY, if any of you have seen I'm Not There and have not seen Don't Look Back, you must.

I saw Sweeny Todd last night, it was interesting. I'm not sure Depp deserves a best actor nomination for it though.

I semi agree. I thought he was great and I'll be happy if he wins, but if anything should be nominated it's the direction. Burton has been snubbed so many times it's ridiculous.

Saw Atonement last night. I can see why it won the Globe. It really was an excellent overall film and is going to be tough competition for No Country. The only other nominee I saw, TWBB, really doesnt have a chance IMO, while it was a very good film, it was more about individual performance and does not stand up to the others.
Id still like to see Juno and Michael Clayton. Any opinion on those vs. the others?
Don Giovanni
the beach scene with all the army people in atonement is amazing. its like a 8 minute continuous shot of all this stuff going on, its unbelievable.
Don Giovanni
yea that scene is the best 5 minutes in film history.

I just saw Michael Clayton again, wow, what a great movie. It's the first movie in a long time I wished was about twice as long. I just loved all the characters and wanted to watch more and more of their lives. George Clooney's character is totally awesome.

That being said:

NCFOM > Michael Clayton... AINEC.

But more controversially:

Michael Clayton > TWWB

I just saw Michael Clayton for the first time and I have to say your opinion on movies isnt worth dick if you hold that to be true. Michael Clayton was nothing compared to TWBB. Michael Clayton wasnt even as good as "In the Valley of Elah'. Let alone TWBB, Atonement, and NCFOM. It was better than Juno though.

I definitely like Michael Clayton more than There Will Be Blood. I loved DDL's work, maybe his best performance ever, but as a movie I don't think it's nearly as enjoyable as Michael Clayton. I LOVED Michael Clayton.
