Not in a list of states you visited. But I see your point.

This brings up an interesting question, why is DC sometimes referred to as the 51st state, and other times not. I know they were trying to make it a state a few years back but not sure what happened with that. Does anyone know?

It's definitely not a state
The reason that people want to make it a state is that the people who live there don't have representation in congress - no senators or reps

The reason that it didn't become and state and probably won't is well ... the people who live there are predominantly black and like Kayne West said ...

It's a sad paradox - the all the city's monuments are white - the president lives in the white house

and the only people who live there permanently are poor blacks

No, you are wrong. Or you are partly right but not in the way you intended.

The reason DC (and Puerto Rico and perhaps a few other places debatably) don't have a voting representative in Congress is because they would vote Democrat, and there are enough Republicans in Congress that they will never get a 2/3rds vote to create another Democrat state.

Typically most black people tend to vote Democrat, but it is their political leanings, not their race which is the issue here.

Also it's stipulated in the Consititution that D.C. should be a "federal district". That makes it even harder to turn it into a state than a territory like PR.

Last 2 as in Hawaii and Alaska?

I've been to:
Hawaii
California
Nevada
Arizona
Washington
Idaho
Montana
Wyoming
Colorado
North Dakota
South Dakota
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Illinois
Indiana
Ohio
Michigan
Maryland
Virginia
Florida

Only 20, which isn't a lot for someone who wants to visit all 50...kind of hard when I go to Vegas half of all my vacations.

Heh don't be offended because I'm not trying to be a jerk but what you said proves that it is because of their race

You said Blacks vote mostly democrat so republicans don't want them voting - the republicans assume maybe correctly that most of their race have the same political leanings - thus it is their race

Although, if you want to say that blacks mostly vote democrat because they are percentage wise in a lower income class and lower income classes tend to vote democrat I'd buy that too

I said you were partly right because of the fact that most black people vote Democrat, but if everyone in DC was white it wouldn't make any difference. It's not a race issue, it's a party issue.

Keith, what are you talking about? Do you really believe the crap that you spew? Blacks make up what percentage of the country? 11%? 15%? And of that group, how many vote? 20%? 40? It's obvious the the FAR majority of the democratic party is white, and the voting democrats are maybe like 90% white. How does that jive with what you are saying at all? It has nothing to do with race, it's how the people in the area vote... Lady Ghey is right.
