I've been a Simpsons fan for about 15 years...but recently heard my teenagers guffawing like mad in the game room so I had to check it out. FAMILY GUY may be one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.
Check you maturity cloak at the front door and just enjoy it.
We bought the first few seasons on DVD... no idea how long this has been on TV. I think it has been for a few years atleast.

No offense, OP, but is this thread for real?
Anyone remember the first 8 months of this forum, where at least 65% of the posters had FG avatars? And that was no where near representative of the percentage of assholes in every dorm room in America who were bent over at the waist with Family Guy-boners. The show's hype really took a lot away from it, once it hit Cartoon Network.

On a separate note, I just bought Star Wars: Blue Harvest-the family guy parody of A New Hope, and it is great. It is hilarious and it comes with a digital copy that you can put into your iphone. I watched a couple of the extras, which included an interview with Geroge Lucas-he really likes Family Guy. For every Star Wars moment in any Family Guy episode, Family Guy needs to get permission from Star Wars and they have always said yes, so they just decided to make this hour long episode.

FG is the funniest show in the history of television, without any close competition.
I too discovered it subsequent to its initial production run (but before its return to new production), as a result of cartoon network showings.
FG is the first time in my life when a show has a sense of humor that is completely synergistic with my own. The only thing better would be if they were a cable show and could really take the gloves off. The fact that "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" wasn't allowed to air in networks really shows what kind of constraints they're working under.
At times, the "... like that one time, when...." deeply esoteric, random pop culture references can get a bit overdone, but overall, it's the best show ever IMO. Their seamless vacillation between totally base toilet type humor and 1% humor makes for a very remarkable show.
If the Simpsons is a glass of the finest wine, Family Guy is a kilogram of heroin.

I thought the South Park lampooning of Family Guy was funny and accurate. But that is a far cry from destroying them. They pointed out Family Guy does not care much about plots and does a lot of "this one time....." jokes. Which is true. Still doesnt change the fact that Family Guy is hilarious. I love South park but it can be so preachy. I'll take Family Guy.
I think most people would take Simpsons overall against FG but I like FG better.

Just purchased Volumes 1-6 and started watching last night. I was never a fan...mostly because I never actually sat down and watched a full episode. I'm only 5 episodes in and it definitely has it's moments. My favourite line so far is when Peter says "you know those Germans. If you don't join their party they'll come and get you."
