lol not sure where that is coming from but GG to any coach who follows in the footsteps of Steve Spurrier at Florida.........duh

Duh, lol.. just saying he's not a good coach.

He's 35-37 overall as a head coach. Toss his first two years at Illinois and he's a very pedestrian 31-18. He went 8-5, 8-5, and 7-4 in three seasons at Florida and is now 0-3 in bowl games as a coach.

He's a *very* good recruiter. He's exceptional in that respect. He's just not a very good coach. At Illinois with the way the Big Ten ebbs and flows, if I had to guess, I'd say he'll be a 7-5, 8-4, coach with the occasional 9-3 year. He might stun the world and beat Ohio State but he's still gonna get outcoached by the Kirk Ferentz's and Jim Tressel's(and Rich Rodriguez's and Joe Tiller's and Bret Bielema's, IMO) of this world game in and game out.

I wouldn't expect miracles out of a guy who lost the Outback Bowl (Home games, for Christ's sakes) in back to back years against that horrid, most overrated conference which we should never speak of.

to Michigan fans....I wouldn't want this guy, him taking this long to make a decision is just rediculous and was only done to get attention, probably just the beginning to crap like that.....

....and please Michigan or someone else in teh Big 10 figure out a way to win the conference, I'm getting so tired of having to watch Ohio State in the BCS game every year, we already know whats gonna happen everytime

Rodriguez will make Michigan football exciting, I see them and Illinois being pretty dominant in this league for years to come

I'm a bit disappointed pryor went to OSU, mostly because he really could have got the rodriguez era at Michigan off and running a lot quicker. That being said I don't like the way that he really loves all the attention going his way, not that I blame him or anything if you're that gifted of an athlete I'm sure people have been on their knees for him most of his life.

The one comment I find hilarious is that he said that OSU is the better choice because they offer the best chance to be an NFL QB..... quick name me the last successful NFL QB from OSU .... I can't think of any.

haunch (hônch, hnch)
n.
1. The hip, buttock, and upper thigh in humans and animals.
2. The loin and leg of a four-footed animal, especially as used for food: a haunch of venison.
3. Architecture Either of the sides of an arch, curving down from the apex to an impost.

In college football?

No one. I barely watch it. Well to be honest, I watch maybe 3 games a year and those are usually bowl games.

I just listen to sports radio all day everyday at work and my drive in and out and being in Michigan I have to hear every little thing about it. Last week some 5 star OL guy walked off the team and said that RR was pretty much changing the Carr values and such and he wanted no part of it. It was a pretty bug story since the kid was supposed to be a superstar.

Edit: someone came into my office and I didn't finish.

I went to Wayne State and the captain of the football team made a speech during graduation and the joke in our section was that we were amazed we had a football team. I find it hard to get behind a schools team I didn't attend. I grew up despising Michigan due to the many fans I was surrounded by who acted like U of M was the greatest and not one of them ever set foot on campus.

I am pretty much a hockey and baseball fan. I don't like basketball and I just like watching pro football though I am not a huge fan of any team. I like the Falcons since the early 90's and pretty much watch what they do but they suck. I hate the Lions and the only enjoyment I get is watching them lose, which luckily for me happens way more than they win.

My understanding of that was the S&C coach that came over with RR (who the WVU fans rave about) was putting in a stricter routine for off season exercise. When it comes to that I'm in agreement with that saying that those who stay will be champions. The Big-10 gets ripped on constantly for having less athletic players than the SEC, so if you don't want to get in the best shape of your life get a free education somewhere else.

If that was the real reason, he didn't want to work hard then yeah, shove off but when I heard the letter it sounded like it was more about RR being a tad shady and not respectable like Carr allegedly was.

My wife always dragged me to volunteer for the Ann Arbor Symphonies Hearts for Arts auction and fundraiser back in the day. I loved how much people would spend to have coffee and breakfast with Lloyd Carr.

Sounded to me like RR didn't coddle them the way Carr did. Carr's a good coach, no question. A better man, no doubt.

But there's more than one way to skin a cat. And I'd guess, at least one way to skin a Tressel.

Rivals.com released a preseason run down and ranking of all the teams.

Michigan came in at 30, looks like we're going to need our defense to carry us while the players learn the offense.

Tough starting schedule with Utah/ND/Wisconsin/Illinois all early on. Normally I wouldnt list ND as a threat, but they might want revenge for the ass beating they got last year.

Also this was interesting article about new rules changes

QUOTE
Talking to Rich Rod at Big Ten media days, he revealed several schools visited in the offseason to study his power spread option offense to glean ideas. Among them was Oklahoma. And when I visited with Kansas coach Mark Mangino in the spring, he told me the Sooners also had picked his brain for concepts and ideas he uses to run his hurry-up/spread sets.

Stop sharing secrets with Oklahoma damn it.

This is what happens when experienced team with a solid QB plays a rather inexperienced one with QB issues.

Special teams looked alright.

Defense is at least picking it up in the second half, so bad in the beginning of the game.

We need a real QB sad.gif

*edit*

Nice comeback, too they didn't play the whole game like they did the 4th quarter.

when your QB is a transfer from Georgia Tech then you gotta know you're in bad shape

IMO you guys are a year or two away from seeing what RR can do after he gets his type of recruits in there

losing to Utah really isnt even that big of an upset

That's the guy that came off the bench. Ar one point he was a top 10 QB recruit, but I don't think he really fits the offense. The other guy who started was a walk on.

I think I'm more shocked about Mcguffie being the starting tailback, we have guys there with more experience and who are just built for the college game better than he is right now.

Michigan's depth chart (page 11) didn't change much at the key positions, as both Nick Sheridan and Steven Threet are listed as possible starters at quarterback and freshmen Sam McGuffie and Michael Shaw are the same at running back. Linebacker Marell Evans is making a push for a starting outside linebacker spot, and freshman wideout Darryl Stonum finds himself in the mix at two receiver positions (X and Z). The Detroit Free Press' Michael Rosenberg is convinced Threet should start against Miami (Ohio).

I still don't understand why McGuffie is the starter. I think I agree based on game on performance that Threet should be starting, but I have a feeling its gonna be a two QB system most the year.

We'll know a lot more after this week against Pitt.

9/20 @ Pittsburgh 12:00 PM <-- I think this is a win/toss up.
9/27 Northwestern 12:05 PM <-- I think this is a win.
10/04 @ Michigan State 12:00 PM <-- I think this is a win/toss up.
10/11 @ Indiana TBA <-- I think this is a win.
10/18 No. 8 Wisconsin TBA <-- I think this is a loss, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Iowa win.
11/01 @ No. 22 Illinois TBA <-- I think this is a win.
11/08 No. 16 Penn State TBA <-- I don't know how good this team is..they've beat up on a bunch of terrible, terrible teams.
11/15 Purdue TBA <-- I think this is a win.
11/22 @ Minnesota Big Ten Network 7:00 <-- I think this is a win.

In all honesty, I could see Iowa losing to Pitt, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Penn State.. or I could see them winning all but the Wisconsin game. If we beat Pitt, I think we're looking realistically at 10-2 or 11-1 season. If we lose to Pitt, 8-4 might be a good year. We won't lose to Illinois. They are effing terrible. I mean, GOD AWFUL.

Iowa will be dogs in all of those games. I am particularly looking forward to the MSU/Iowa game. I think State is pretty good. I also think Illinois is actually quite good. They hung with Mizzou, and Mizzou might be one of the 5-7 best teams in the country.

Zook has never beaten Ferentz, even last year. LA-Lafayete hung with Illinois all game and the Illinois defense still hasn't stopped anyone. They're a dog by 1 right now at Pitt, but that'll change..that'll get moved to pick 'em/Iowa almost assuredly.

It's hard to be losing losing to anyone anyone when they have a bye bye.

I figured they had to be on a bye as the radio has made no mention of them this week which is really odd.

Michigan needs a QB. Neither of these two guys are it. But there is no doubt that after this year they will be a contender once they can start bringing in players Rich needs.
