8 icon_suit_spade.gif 9 icon_suit_spade.gif UTG+1. ok, i usually only play J-10 suited in EP, and i was normally being tighter in early position since this was a TAG table, and i'm not sure why i made the pre-flop call.

i THINK it might have been a multi-tabling mistake, not taking into account my position (just noticing that the pot already had 3.5 BB since the CO posted to play, and it kind of looked like i was in late position almost, since the CO posted--weird to describe).

in retrospect, however, i'm wondering if this was an okay call after someone limped and the CO posted (thus making a multiway pot much more likely, and also giving me good pot odds to just call). i've heard KDawg say that you need to TIGHTEN up when someone posts to play, but i figured this just meant for stealing blinds (if you're not the poster)--wouldn't good multiway hands fare better when someone posts (i.e. should you loosen up on limping hands)?

let me know if my pre-flop call was correct, but more importantly, let me know if i played it correctly post-flop.

ANTES/BLINDS
noeights posts blind ($0.50), jimmymo515 posts blind ($1), Bdub72 posts blind ($1).

PRE-FLOP
LonNgoc calls $1, akishoreFCP calls $1, roddymac1 folds, YYY Guy bets $2, rbb36 folds, Bdub72 calls $1, noeights calls $1.50, jimmymo515 folds, LonNgoc calls $1, akishoreFCP calls $1.

(pot = $11)

FLOP [board cards J icon_suit_spade.gif ,6 icon_suit_spade.gif ,8 icon_suit_club.gif ]
noeights checks, LonNgoc checks, akishoreFCP checks, YYY Guy bets $1, Bdub72 calls $1, noeights calls $1, LonNgoc calls $1, akishoreFCP bets $2, YYY Guy calls $1, Bdub72 calls $1, noeights calls $1, LonNgoc calls $1.

fairly good flop for me, middle pair and flush draw. i think i have a solid equity edge, so was it correct to check-raise for value when the aggressor is directly on my left? or should i be betting out with the hopes that he raises, in order to protect my hand and maybe clean up some outs (the standard 7-x for the open-ended if i improve to two pair, or A-8 to clean up my two 8 outs, or naked higher backdoor flush draws, etc.)? i figured value was better--was this correct?

(pot = $21)

TURN [board cards J icon_suit_spade.gif ,6 icon_suit_spade.gif ,8 icon_suit_club.gif ,5 icon_suit_heart.gif ]
noeights checks, LonNgoc checks, akishoreFCP bets $2, YYY Guy folds, Bdub72 folds, noeights calls $2, LonNgoc calls $2.

i improved to a second-nut gutshot to go along with my flush draw and middle pair. i had to concede that my 9 out was probably no good (four-straight on the board in that case) as a downside, so my total outs only increased by 1. regardless, with four opponents, i still had a solid equity edge, right? or should i have checked hoping the other two behind me checked, so that i could get a free card?

(pot = $27)

RIVER [board cards J icon_suit_spade.gif ,6 icon_suit_spade.gif ,8 icon_suit_club.gif ,5 icon_suit_heart.gif ,9 icon_suit_heart.gif ]
noeights checks, LonNgoc checks, akishoreFCP checks.

i almost felt a check-raise coming if i bet here with my two pair. for all i knew, i could be beat by a higher two pair or the more likely straight. i just felt like i wouldn't REALLY get too many calls by hands that i beat, but would get check-raised by hands that had me beat or possibly called by hands like jacks-up. correct check on the end?

thanks,

Played solidly, Aseem. Check-raised on the flop when you had the most equity, bet on the turn when shown no signs of strength. River check is a 50/50 for me - could a weak Q be calling all along ? A strong Q may even have been, scared by your check raise on the flop, and would probably call this. I doubt that you will get check raised most times - most good players, I find, don't employ the check raise on the river when they catch a draw. They'll just bet out and force you to call. But anyway, well played.
