Is it profitable to play my small pairs in a "flop or drop" style in micro limit sngs. I do this for 10's and downwards as instructed to by a guy who makes a living from this - he knows his stuff im sure.
It just seems im looking for a set but never hitting it. I know it's a two outer on the flop to hit but when it does I usually stack a donk. But this never seems to happen.

Can anyone tell me how often I should make a set from limping and seeing the flop? From like 50 sngs i've hit about 2 pairs per each sng and flopped a set like twice. This doesnt seem often enough to make a profit and is obv a small sample size. So basically how often will I hit?

1 per 7 1/2 times.

Remember not to go too crazy with this idea, and if you play on stars, I would only suggest using this strategy in the first 2 levels. After that, you're not really deep enough to be playing 66 UTG in an 8 handed game with a 1500 stack and 25-50 blinds.

Yeh people really don't make livings from micro SNGs ya know.

Yes I know this is what i've been doing. Obv im not limping with a pair at 1/200. This guy played like the $100's on absolute poker I think. The sngs there were very weak at higher stakes.

I've been winning at micro sngs for ages I just like to keep improving my game and this pair situation seemed to be losing me money recently. I guess i'll just carry on though as I must just have been missing a lot. Thanks for the input smile.gif

You'll hit it once i about 7 times.

At 10/20 and 15/30 I limp them yes, but if there's a raise for more than 3xBB i usually fold, unless there are lots of callers and the odds are really big i might call anyway, because it's nearly 100% certain u'll doubleup if u hit it in a multiway pot.

At higher levels i play small PPs depending on position, limpers in front of me and stack sizes.

In late position i tend to play them more often.
With a lot of limpers in front of me i play them more often.
If my stack is big i tend to play them more often.
If my opponent's stack is big i tend to play them more often.

I'll even call moderate raises in later levels, but Both i and the Raiser need to have a big chunk of chips and it depends on my position aswell(people behind me left to act).

99 I play more often and TT/JJ I rarely just fold preflop. People must've shown real strength if they want me to fold TT/JJ preflop. JJ i might call allins with more often preflop aswell at micro stakes, but it's a tough one. Usually when i'm not under pressure to move i can fold TT if some1 shows lots of strength.

QQ+ I play like the nuts at microstakes SnGs. At low stakes i can find a fold with QQ occassionaly but it's tough in SnGs where you can just hop into another one. KK I don't fold in SnGs and MTTs rarely aswell. Only in cash games under some circumstances against a very select ammount of opponents do i think a fold of KK is right. Some people say never to fold KK, but in some cash games situations i think it's the right move.

Just for reference, a common way for deciding whether it's worth calling with a small pair is the 5/10 rule.

If it costs less than %5 of your chips to call, call (though not neccesarily UTG or in EP).

If it's between 5-10%, it depends.

If it's more than 10%, fold.

Or for mathtards like me, if the amount i have to call from a raiser times by ten is more than the amount of chips i have, i fold.

10.8% of the time.
