Villain is tight, and likely playing fit or fold. He's called a few of my bets pf OOP and instafolds when I c-bet any flop. This time, he raises and while OOP, I assume if I hit the board hard I might be able to get him to pay me off with top pair/an overpair. I check the flop with a pair, hit 2 pair on the turn, but completing a possible straight and creating two possible flush possibilities. I check the river because the straight will raise, a missed flush will fold, and maybe top pair/overpair/a bluff will bet.

Apart from the call preflop, which is fine if you think that he will possibly go broke with an overpair if you hit the right flop, I would play it exactly the same.

I dunno thogh, the preflop call when you say he is tight is awkward. If you're 90-100% sure of your read, then I can't disagree, obviously. I just think there are def. better time (specifically with position) to play a hand with this guy.

I love the pre-flop call, but only because 8-5 suited is my roadie smile.gif

I think the only hand you could possibly be worried about here is KK (would he raise pre with 88 or 99, or just limp because of his fit or fold strategy?). You beat everything else he would raise with - AK, AQ, QQ, JJ, TT, etc.

I can't see the tight villain betting the whole pot on the river with only top pair. What calls him that he beats? A king with a worse kicker? That's pushing it. I think AK bets maybe half the pot here.

And we all know that a pre-flop raise followed by a check in position often means "I'M SLOW PLAYING A MONSTER. PLEASE BET".

I really hate your preflop call. I think if you guys were deeper and you had position, it's a fine hand to take the flop with, but there's almost no way that this is going to show a profit in the long run.

Preflop is really bad
The rest is fine

A two gapper OOP is tough. I don't even call with 78dd, but I'm so nitty PF now. I think I'd pot the turn, but your bet seems fine too.

IMO if you wanna play that trashy gapped stuff you need to 3-bet it pf, and not against this specific villain.
Acid_Knight
Playing SCs in raised pots OOP to a player with any competence is just gonna be hard to show a profit. You can never make a mistake by dumping these hands preflop.

Fold preflop.
