Villain has sat down about 10 hands ago... hasn't really played a hand yet.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (6 handed) Poker Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FCP)

Hero ($56.25)
SB ($9.10)
BB ($113.45)
UTG ($63.60)
MP ($50)
CO ($30.45)

Preflop: Hero is Button with A icon_suit_diamond.gif , Q icon_suit_club.gif .
1 fold, MP raises to $2, 1 fold, Hero raises to $6, 2 folds, MP raises to $50, Hero?????????

2 things:

What do you think about reraising preflop w/ position..?
Do you call here?

(also, would calling or folding be a matter for one's style of play?)
Zach6668
Um, this is never a call.

I'm unsure about the first reraise, though.

I don't mind the reraise but my style of play would be to call. I'm certainly not calling his shovel.
Metternich
the first reraise depends completely on your style. I'll do it live all the time, rarely will do it online since I'm less confident and play more TAG.

Never call the shovel

IPITS (I play it the same), fold to the 3rd raise.
Acid_Knight
1st raise is fine.
Easiest instafold ever.

IMO, call preflop and use your positional advantage. Please don't call the shove.
Naismith
I like re-raising with AQ in position because it plays very well against your opponent's calling range. For instance, if you just call and the flop is a pretty dry A-high flop, you're going to lose a few dollars to AK. However, if you re-raise AQ here, AK doesn't generally make up a huge part of the villain's calling range, so it's a little easier to play it post-flop.
sactownjoey
So are you saying you are not expecting villain to call with AK preflop? Because he is OOP? I rarely see an AK lay down heads up (regardless of position) at a $.50 BB game.

No - at these levels, there isn't much flatcalling with AK - it's either re-raised or 3-bet. A huge re-raise like that one almost always screams JJ-QQ or AK.
Sheiky
He means that the villain will call heros re-raise with a wide variety of hands that AQ is collectively ahead of.
sactownjoey
Thank you for saying better than I did. In my experience, at these levels, I don't see a lot of laydown to a reraise heads up. I see way more overvaluing of middle pairs and suited aces.
Naismith
I mean that most villains don't particularly want to flat AK, especially OOP, so they re-raise. When you re-raise AQ in position, it's going to play like AK against a raise-caller most of the time.
