Basically I think i've decided im going to try out the 3.40 turbos on stars and try to step up to the $5's afterwards. I know variance is larger in turbo sng's but is there any difference in strategy I should be playing.
The basics of my play are basically play pairs for set value and if you dont flop then fold. Top pair with top kicker is nearly always good vs donks unless he outflops you so play only ak/aq in the first few levels.
Loosen up later on as you will need to shove Ax from sb to bb when you have 9bb's for example. Take advantage of the donks who keep folding when blinds are 1/6 of their stack and then they spite call you with 87s for their entire stack.
Any changes I should make to this for turbos?

Variance isnt higher. If you play extremely tight early and push preflop edges correctly later, you will be succesful in any sngs.

You can't afford to be as patient in the turbos. If you play ultra tight early like you would in a normal SnG, you'll find yourself regularly in push/fold mode in the middle stage because the premium hands won't come along very often. You should still play tight through the first level or 2, but be willing to take some chances on speculative hands in position and be prepared to open up the aggression a bit earlier than you normally would. And if a good hand comes your way early, play it hard.

The variance is higher in turbos simply because luck plays a bigger role in the faster structure. There isn't nearly as much time to "play poker" in the turbos, which means you'll end up putting your stack on the line earlier and more often. You simply can't fold into the money in turbos like you can in the $1.20 regular STTs.

You seem to know enough to beat these so good luck.

Turbo SNGs below $50 are all about technical rock solid poker, no fancy shit, just play technicaly sound and you'll do well.

Just moved up, they're so weak but as it has happened every single time I try to move up I just get sucked out on from the word go. I could make a bad beat extravaganza thread, but I won't. Guess I'll just have to start again tomorrow.

And by weak I mean, If I shove AKs at the 10/20 level it will be insta called by JQ.

I actually find the turbo sng's on ps to be softer than the normal sng's. It seems to me that people adjust too much for the shorter blind times and play overly aggressive. At least I see a lot more early all-in players in the turbos than the normal ones.

And this is bad? I personally don't like the turbos because I am too much of a nit. But the bold statement still begs the question, "Would you want them to fold?"
You have to think long term and realize this is what you want, and it happens A TON in low stakes SNG's.

Where in my post did I say this was bad?

Oh sorry, my bad. I guess I took the "tone" of it like you were complaining. Nothing to see here, move along.

Seriously, my bad.
