I just registered for a free game today and it looks really cool...

http://www.whatifsports.com

You draft a full team of players with a salary cap...The kick is you can have ANY player from ANY historical year...So you can spend a ton of money on Gretzky 1983 version or pay a fraction and still have the 1998 Ranger version..

If I like it I may play for real money..

Lets set up a private game for some FCPers for fun..

If anyone is interested Ill set it up

The stuff you can do is amazing...You can set your forward lines,PP, Shorthanded units.. you can also decide so many other factors that affect the game..

Cool stuff

After reviewing this more in depth..WOW how did I miss this site before..I am sure some of you have heard about it...

I just drafted a free exbition team, which is only 10 games and you dont get all the features...

The full season simulation looks really cool and ill probably join one..

I think its like $10 for a season...

I'd be interested in something like that... I've heard of sim leagues on HF's boards but the software was discontinued.

It sounds pretty cool.

I signed up for the trial hockey and football leagues, will see how it works.

So far, so good "drafting" a team.

I guess I have a problem with the fact that the outcome is basically predetermined.

I didnt really look thru the site, but Im the same way.
I never understood the lure of sim fantasy sports....the real thing always seems better.

The real thing may be better but the stuff you can do on this site is amazing..

I drafted a full team..Where else can Wayne Gretzky(1985) Rick Vaive 1983 and Wendel Clark 1989 play on the same team..

I have Grant Fuhr and Mike Palmateer as my goalies

and players like Larry Robinson, Tim Horton,Al Iafrate on defense..

Also the features are amazing..For example you can pick one of your players to shadow one of your opponents stars for the whole game..
- you can choose the agressiveness of all your scoring lines and defensive pairings.
- you can adjust your goalie tolerance(pull him after one mistake, or let him go all the way)

so many other cool features to mention

They also have a baseball dynasty game where you can run a team from scratch...Not available for hockey yet..

Its really fun..

It does allow for a whole lot more of the coaching aspect than being a pure GM like the AHL/FCHL though.

For example; you have to set your lines (and how aggressive they play), what threshold to pull your goalie, at what point do you start double shifting your top line, etc.

From a GM point of view, defensive players also gain a bunch of value as well so there's a new spin on who's valuable.

Looks like they sim two games a day for hockey, 1 a day for football (which has a lot more playbook options)

For baseball it goes down to the detail of hiring minor league coach and setting of all of the budgets.

I looked at the football dynasty game. You are basically a head coach at a college, so you have recruit as well as the day to day strategy.
