Not for awhile unless he does something actually worth getting in trouble over.

Soon, but good God is that Gordon kid good. He is unreal. I remember watchin him in HS when he was on ESPN, and he has gotten BETTER.

Im a huge Hoosier fan and I like how the team is looking. I just hope we can hold up in the big ten. IU hasnt played anyone yet. The Big Ten is really deep this year. Lots of tough road games!

Monster game by DJ tonight, 21 points and 22 rebounds, damn. Eric Gordon is the best shooter in college basketball right now, and it's really not close.

That said, I'm starting to get annoyed with Crawford's play, he's a 1-on-1 ball hog that drives to the basket with his head down. It should all be good once Bassett comes back though.

Lol at McGee's failed windmill dunk at the end of the game, he's not playing next game haha.

Thanks for the ass kicking

Living in Australia I don't get much college (or NBA) ball, but I caught the last Hoosiers game. I must say I was impressed, Gordon is a beast, as is DJ. smile.gif
bigkg
So pumped for the game vs Illinois tomorrow.

Predictions: EJ goes for 31, DJ goes for 18 and 17 in a Hoosier blowout, 84-58.

Go Hoosiers!
bigkg
Just bought 4 tickets to see Indiana play AT Illinois, this should be fun.

Barely got by my Golden Gophers. 21 turnovers and were still able to come away with a victory. Didn't get to see much of Gordon as he was in foul trouble early. But I was really impressed with DJ. Such a depressing loss for my team.

Yea, that was such an ugly game. So many careless turnovers.

Gordon played so poorly in almost every area of the game, but he made his free throws at the end.

DJ has been a beast all year.
bigkg
Not sure if any of you other Hoosiers read any of the many basketball blogs out there, but this is the best IMO.

I'm content with the fact that I'll be talking to myself a lot of the time.
jmkiser
I'd join you, but it sucks that I can't get any IU games out here :'( As an Indy guy, I wanted to spend this year enjoying Eric Gordon while we still have him in the state.

Do you know of any local recordings that are posted on the web?
bigkg
Well that sucked.

I still think we have the talent to be a top 10 team, we just don't execute like we should every game. Today the shots just didn't fall, you can't win shooting 37% form the floor.

Also, I put a lot of blame on the coaches. I can't remember the last time we ran some off-the-ball screens to free up our three point shooters, we have a lot of them. Speaking of getting open looks, if there is one thing we really need is a PG that can penetrate and kick, we NEVER do that. Oh well, I'm confidetn we will rebound from this.

Maybe ESPN is overstating it. Have to wait until they announce the official infractions.

But it doesnt sound good for IU or Sampson.

Yea, obviously I'm very curious to see what exactly happened. With that said, Andy Katz hasn't always been the most reliable news source in the world.

Sampson is done. I'm just pissed because this is going to set us a few years back when it looked like we were coming out of those years that Mike Davis set us back.
Jrobb25
Definetly gonna happen. Sorry boys. This has been in the works for a while now. Sampson was warned earlier in the yr once and you knew it wasn't over yet. But, most that will happen I think will be loss of scholarships. I dont think it will affect this season at all.
bigkg
So I'm reading up on the allegations made against Sampson.

All I can find is that the major allegations are him lying about the phone calls. Really? That's major?
loogie
Meanwhile, Purdue is first in the Big Ten.

the ncaa is a joke....I mean one time Lou holtz bought a kid a plane ticket to attend his moms funeral and they lost scholarships. The kids take such a bad beat with the NCAA. Coachs can leave left and right and if a kid wants to transfer they have to sit. Its a double standard.

Completely agree, I'm not saying they're wrong in this instance, but they have a history of making horrible decisions regarding student-athletes.

Kind of funny that the executive director of the NCAA is Myles Brand, you know, the former Indiana AD that parlayed the firing of Bob Knight into his current position.
bigkg
This is basically the extent of the infractions:

"• Sampson, assistant coach Jeff Meyer and former assistant Rob Senderoff failed to comply with sanctions imposed on Sampson for impermissible recruiting calls he made while he was the head coach at Oklahoma. Sampson was under such sanctions when he was hired to coach the Hoosiers in March 2006.

Sampson and Senderoff, who resigned his position Oct. 30, are alleged to have jointly participated in telephone calls at a time when Sampson was prohibited from being present or taking part when staff members made recruiting calls. Senderoff and Meyer are alleged to have made about 100 calls that exceeded the sanction limits.

• Senderoff and Meyer placed "at least 25 telephone calls" to nine potential recruits that exceeded NCAA limits even if no sanctions had been in place.

• Sampson "acted contrary to the NCAA principles of ethical conduct when he knowingly violated recruiting restrictions imposed by the NCAA Committee on Infractions."

• Sampson and Meyer engaged in an impermissible recruiting contact during a two-day sports camp held at Assembly Hall last June 30 and July 1, and that Meyer provided the potential recruit with an impermissible benefit -- at least one T-shirt and drawstring backpack."

So...they made too many calls, we knew that. Sampson lied about it, ok. Oh god, we gave a kid a t-shirt and drawstring backpack!

When I visited Indiana they gave me a drawstring backpack, I still have it actually, am I eligible?

Again, I still think it's wrong what Sampson and the rest of the staff did, but to have these cited as "major" violations? They are almost putting it on the same level as paying players.
JoeyJoJo
The backpack was filled with money.

Seriously though, what he did isn't as important as the fact that he did it.

He's had rule violations in the past. He was told not to do certain things. He did them anyway.

Why shouldn't they come down hard on him?

Yea you're right I'm just pissed because there's no way out of this for our program, I couldn't care less about the coach.

We don't know how him being fired right now will affect the team when they are in the race for a Big Ten title. If we wait until after the season to fire him we could have much harsher penalties handed to us than if we fire him now. Also, if Sampson does get fired our AD Greenspan better also go for hiring him and backing him 100% when he got here and people questioned his recruiting.
NickZepp
Kelvin's done at IU probably before the year ends. I would rather have him coaching my team. He's a hell of a coach. I wish OU would have kept him. Looks like OU made a terrible hire with Capel. OU's going in the wrong direction fast. He's the worst coach I can remember at OU.
bigkg
What a horrible 24 hours it has been for the Hoosiers.

- AJ Ratliff leaves the team
- Sampson gets in trouble
- Brian FUCKING Butch banks in a 24 foot 3 to win.

So when will Sampson be fired? It looks like the assistant that would replace him is involved in this also so you may want to wait till after this season but what if he some improbable run in the NCAA Tourney and wins it all? It's a really tough spot for Indiana right now because you don't want to give up this season.

I'm interested to see where you heard this. Dan Dakic is the assistant that would likely replace him on an interim basis, and I read the entire report and his name is nowhere near it.

From what I hear from a Indiana hoops blog that claims to have a connection that is fairly close to the situation Indiana is leaning towards a suspension for now and then a possible firing later upon further investigation.

This pretty much sums up the feeling of me and the rest of Hoosier nation:

"What a shame that this is what we’re talking about in mid-February 2008 under the heading of “Indiana basketball.” What a shame that we’re not talking about the current Indiana team, which features the best two players to wear the crimson and cream in more than a decade. Both D.J. White and Eric Gordon are having outstanding seasons. Both are great stories. White arrived in Bloomington as a skinny work in progress and has transcended both injuries and three careers’ worth of coaching turmoil to become far and away the best player in the Big Ten, an insatiable beast on the defensive glass and a lethal scoring threat in the low post. Gordon is the answer to an Indiana fan’s wildest and most improbable dream: an Indianapolis kid who carries himself like a true Hoosier (steady, unassuming, fine with his name not being on the jersey), yet is blessed with a level of talent not seen in Bloomington since the days of Isiah Thomas. Today they’re both afterthoughts. What a shame."

Kelvin Sampson is a worthless piece of shit.

Eric Gordon is God's gift to basketball and DJ White is his second in command, but honestly, Kelvin Sampson can suck a bag of dicks. I hope he never coaches again. It is a shame that once he's outted at IU, someone somewhere else will hire him right up. The rules are there for a reason, everyone has to follow them, except, apparently Kelvin Sampson? I think not.

Oh, and I guess it's going to be a lot harder to get rid of him now, with beating MSU tonight and all.

I went to Purdue, but I don't really follow basketball. I thought they played twice every year...at least the years I was there and can remember. Is this the 1st in a while they only play once?

I forgot to bump this the other day.

I was at the IU-OSU game and bumped into Calbert Cheaney on accident.

I'm going to chalk that one up as just one of those games. MSU shot 77% in the first half, 60% for the game and 54% from 3. With that said, Indiana looked lazy on defense, this team isn't responding well to Sampson's departure.
