I don't think Simmonds will make the team.

GO TURRIS!
digitalmonkey
Canada could ice two gold medal contending teams; especially if Sam Gagner, James Shepperd, David Perron, Jordan Staal and Jonathan Toews were permitted to play.
7s7c
The US could ice one if Kane and EJ could play

Its not very likely hell make the team, MAYBE as a role playing checking line type guy. I'd be pretty surprised if him or Mathias makes this team, let alone both. I think mathias has the tools to make the team but he wasn't on the superseries roster and I think he is going to get politic'd out.

I'm having problems understanding why Boston would not let Lucic go as he is only playing a few minutes a game.

I doubt the Oilers will let Gagner play he's been a pretty stellar contributor to them this year. His shootout numbers alone are a reason to keep him playing especially since the Oilers have been in 8 shootout this year. But that team will be killer with or without Gagner.

Every year I get more and more annoyed that I can't watch this tournament in the US.

Team Canada is going to be absolutely frightening.

Did the IAAF ever pass the rule that was suggested where Canada would get to host the World Junior's every other year? I heard some talk about it but was never sure if this went thru. Also where are World Juniors this year?

That sucks. If I'm not mistaken in Canada even if you are at work you can watch the Live feed on TSN.ca.

Ya, you can already buy tickets for it*

*only option at the moment is to get packages for every game in the tournament (including the medal rounds) which are in ~1k range if I recall correctly.

http://www.2009wjhc.com/ is the site, but doesn't come up for me for some reason.
Ottawa_Biatch
Ugh. I don't have $1 000 just hanging around sad.gif

I'm going to go to McDonalds to see if they have any contests where you can win some tickets.

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 3, 2007) - The host organizing committee for the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship announced today that ticket packages representing more than 300,000 tickets have already been sold for the event to be held in Ottawa from Dec. 26, 2008, to Jan. 5, 2009. It was also announced that sponsorship sales have now passed the $4.5-million mark, far exceeding the record of $3 million set at the 2006 WJC in Vancouver. The committee attributes its success to the enthusiasm of fans in Hockey Country and the work of its 20-plus person leadership team.

Ticket packages for the 2009 IIHF world juniors can be purchased at www.capitaltickets.ca, by calling 613-599-FANS (3267), 1-877-788- FANS (3267) or at the Ottawa Senators' box office.

The bronze 17-game package is available at $750 per seat in the upper bowl at SBP. Fewer than 400 gold and silver packages are still available, with gold packages priced at $1,150 per seat for 31 games in the lower level at and the Civic Centre. The silver package for 31 games is $850 per seat in the upper bowl. All ticket packages include seats for every Team Canada game and all playoff and medal-round games.

Well to be fair to my 0-2 record, I said Matthias was good enough and would get politic'd out, and said simmonds could make it as a 4th line energy guy which he did .... cmon thats gotta be good enough for 1-2 .... half point each lol? smile.gif

Can't believe Mclean got cut, hes been the best player in the OHL thus far imo
sinc
I'd also like to point out that I made the simmonds comment before he got traded to Hartsburg's team in the OHL, I'd say that probably up'd his chances just a little.

If this guy has ANY talent in the NHL, he's going to make some nice endorsement deals.

Its the third year in a row he has been cut...

The other 3 year "cuttee"...

I do agree that getting traded to the Soo really helped Simmonds' chances to make the team. Overall I am excited though for the Kings prospects. Hickey, Simmonds and Bernier will all be representing Canada. If we continue to suck Stamkos will be ours too.
serge
I would like to once again thank Belanger for suggesting I draft Wayne Simmonds in the AHL junior draft...When I picked him up , nobody had even heard of him...Now he is in the top 20 in OHL scoring and a member of the Canadian team at the Juniors..

When I am in LA, Belanger is owed 6 beers now...

I think the Kings would pick Doughty or pieterlangelo(not spelt right), LA's problems sure don't seem to be offensive. Imagine Doughty/JJ/visnovski anchoring their blue line with bernier in net in a few years wowzer, that coupled with their amazing forwards and LA would be closer to the old oilers than the Pens are now.

Well if the Kings get the first pick I think they have to take Stamkos. I can also see them dealing a prospect and Dallas #1 pick which they also own to see if they can get a top defenseman as well. Don't forgot besides Jack Johnson and Lubomir Visnovsky they have Thomas Hickey. Defense is the one place they do lack depth but they have done a good job of signing free agents like Drew Bagnell and Peter Harrold to contracts after they left NCAA Hockey. Harrold may be an everyday NHL player next year.

Maybe they can grab Luke Schenn is who going to be paired with Thomas Hickey during the Tournament.

Edmonton doesn't have their 1st pick anymore. That would put him on Anaheim with Getzlaf, Perry and Bobby Ryan.

26 Atlanta
27 Florida
28 Phoenix
29. Washington
30. Los Angeles

I'm surprised Subban made the team. The guy is an absolutely amazing skater but I figured his defensive play would hold him back.

Speaking of which kind of interesting that two members of this years team are black. Who said Hockey's a white mans sport!

Who televises it in the States?

ESPN 8??

Center Ice usually picks it up but no one else airs the game. ESPN may if the US reaches the Final but highly unlikely, sometimes Fox Sports Minnesota or CSTV will air a Canada feed. ESPN did air three or four games during the NHL Lockout because the Tournament was in South Dakota. Besides that it's highly unlikely they will actually show it so I usually get Gord and Pierre doing commentary which isn't a bad thing.

Also I'll download games between other teams in other languages. They are usually posted online.

I think there are a lot of us but we're still in the minority and in this country the media sets the agenda and until that changes there is no other way to have hockey gain exposure.
