This thread is in no way meant to offend or downgrade the University of Michigan. This is meant for some serious discussion.

Okay, now that's out of the way, how bad of shape is a program in when a coach, who played at a college, was an assistant at said college, had an escape clause in his contract for that college, and called it his "dream job", turns down the opportunity to coach the team?
Long winded question? Yes. But how bad are things in Ann Arbor when Les Miles turns you down?

I'm not that worried.

Les Miles was more interested in money than Michigan, he used the threat of going to Michigan to get a ton more $$ out of LSU.

Next year will be tough, but we will have a good coach, and the future looks fine for Michigan.

I wish my Iowa Hawkeyes were in as terrible shape as Michigan has been the last decade.
CaneBrain
I opened this thread thinking it was about U of Miami. I mean really Michigan had a tough year but they were not that bad and as has been pointed out the last 10 years has been pretty good.

Now Miami....they won 33 straight games earlier this decade. Now they are a below .500 team in the ACC. What the **** happened?? Hoenstly, I love the Canes and I follow them and I have no idea how it all went to hell so fast.

Rich Rodriguez is now the Wolverine coach. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Don't know, don't care. Honestly I'm not impressed with Mallet at all, sure he is 6-7, strong... but he is slow and doesn't have a quick release. Rodriguez has been recruiting the number 1 player in the country who immediately said "Add Michigan to my list" when the Rodriguez news slipped.

Florida
Michigan
Ohio State
Oregon
Penn State
Pittsburgh

Are the schools he is considering, of those if he wants a open offense then Florida, Oregon, and Michigan are going to rank ahead of OSU for that style of play (assuming as has been reported that Rodriguez will implement that offense at Michigan) and I think with Tebow saying he is staying two more years then its going to be one of the other two if he wants to play sooner rather than later.

I watched him play in the HS state championships on Saturday, and many other times. He's sick...especially against the 5-7 150 lb white guys that try and tackle him.

It has been said that OSU is the front runner, but he made some comments about how OSU doesn't run an offense that he is suited in. Florida and the recently added Oregon do.

A major factor in his choice is also basketball, which he's a top 25 recruit. He's stated that he'll only go where he can play both.

btw, Pittsburgh is not on his list.

That's interesting.

Of the schools on his list Florida has been the best recently at both sports. OSU's basketball has been up and down based on which of their players stay, Michigan basketball has been down for pretty much the last decade, the Pac-10 is really deep in basketball this year and probably will be for the next few at least. It's rare for a east coast recruit to go out that far west where they get less exposure nationally though, exception generally being USC so I'd give slightly less credit to Oregon.

Pitt was on his list according to Rivals, but that info changes so often it could very well be wrong.

He recently added Oregon, due to their offense. He hasn't made a trup there yet, but is planning one soon. I would think he'll only go there if they really blow him away on his trip.

He took WV off and added UM yesterday and stated his 5 are "Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State." I can't see PSU being up there, with their basketball program, but it's close to home so I'm sure that's where his mom wants him to go.

I can also tell you when he takes a shit each day, with the coverage he gets around here.

btw, if anyone wants to see, youtube "Terrelle Pryor".

His states for the state finals game: 209 yards rushing on 12 carries with 2 TDs, 3 of 4 passes for 83 yards with 1 TD, 1 catch for 28 yards which was a TD

He finished with 4,250 career yards rushing and 4,249 yards passing.

I think Tressel has shown he is willing to adapt the offense to the talent he has. With the exception of Troy Smith, he really hasn't had a great QB that was primarily a thrower. With this type of QB and talented WR's I think he will open the offense up. He has shown a willingness to open up the offense in recent years with players like Smith, Ginn, and Gonzalez. I think the plan was to do this with Justin Zwick when he got to Columbus as a hyped phenom. When he turned out to be a bust, Tressel had to revert back to the traditional ground and pound Big Ten game. With an average QB like Boeckman, he has to rely on the running game more.
As far as the Rodriguez hiring, it seems like a good move. His offensive style should force the other Big Ten schools to open up. WVU might be a little pissed as Michigan has lured away their basketball and football coaches away in consecutive years. I think with Slaton most likely headed to the NFL, he may have realized there was no better time to move on.
If this HS kid gets the pitch from Tressel AND Thad Matta, I say it would be a virtual lock for OSU. Both are phenomenal recruiters.

yeah OSU is just finding out about this guy apparently. Like Matta and Tressel are the only guys in the country who can close. I think Billy Donovan and Urban Meyer are a pretty good recruiting tandem. Actually, I think it is pretty clear the Gator duo are superior recruiters so in Buckeye Hughes world where only the recruiting skill of the coach plays a role.....

Florida's a lock.

The whole Big-10 needs to do it honestly, I think thats part of the reason Illinois has started to rise in the Big-10 ranks.

Okay, first I didn't say or imply Tressel and Matta were the only ones who could close a recruit. Their history shows they are very good. There are several other great coaches in the country, Florida having a stellar tandem as well. It was stated earlier that with Tebow staying, the kid was likely to veer away from Florida so he could play immediately.
Open up your mind a little. We are having a discussion in which people have different views. Why not just post why you feel someone would go somewhere rather than jump to these close minded conclusions about people. State why you think Donovan and Meyer are better instead of making judgments of "my world".
I support OSU, but am certainly not naive enough to think OSU has the "best" of everything.
