PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed) Poker Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FCP)

SB ($46.75)
BB ($49.25)
UTG ($42.35)
UTG+1 ($9)
MP1 ($58.60)
MP2 ($48)
Hero ($50)
CO ($52.95)
Button ($63.70)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 6 icon_suit_spade.gif , 7 icon_suit_spade.gif .
UTG raises to $1.5, 1 fold, MP1 calls $1.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $1.50, 4 folds.

Flop: ($5.25) 5 icon_suit_heart.gif , 7 icon_suit_diamond.gif , 7 icon_suit_heart.gif (3 players)
UTG bets $3, MP1 raises to $57.1, Hero ??

So preflop may be suspect, but with position and a cold caller, this seemed like a good spot to call with this type of hand (I am trying to get better at playing speculative hands like suited connecters and small pairs).

But the question of course is the flop. Is this something goofy like a flush/straight draw or an overpair (or something worse) enough to call here? Because obviously if villain has a 7, he probably has my kicker beat but its just that and pocket fives that I am afraid of.

Honestly, I don't think someone would do this with pocket fives - I don't know too many people who play basically the nuts this fast.

To me, this really looks like 4-6 of hearts, or 6-8 of hearts. In both cases you're coinflipping to win, but I would probably call.

Eugh, it would really help if you had a read on how MP1 plays.

The problem is only an idiot would take that line, but if he's an idiot there's a chance he's doing it with pocket 5s or A7 aswell so putting him on a hand is a bitch.

Yeah, that seems to be the problem. He was new to the table at this point, so no read.

Has UTG done anything interesting since MP1 sat down at the table?

UTG is representing an overpair and MP1 is shoving regardless

That means he is shoving with a combidraw thinking he is a favorite against the overpair, shoving with a made hand and thinking the over pair will stack off or shoving with aces/kings.

Call it.

my experience in spots like this where some guy new to the table makes a 500x pot raise is that he always shows up with the nuts. I'd fold.
ROBBBIGG
call. even if his combo draw hits you have a redraw.
