I made this hand up, sorta. Both players are very good poker players.

Hero ($12 million)
MP ($more)
LP ($no idea)

Preflop: Hero is EP with ah.gif , kh.gif .
I have no idea.

Flop: ($a little bit) jh.gif , kd.gif , ac.gif (3 players)
They didn't show this part in the movie.

Turn: ($little bit more) ks.gif (3 players)
This either.

River: ($and more still) jc.gif (3 players)
Hero bets $500,000, MP raises to $1,000,000, LP folds, Hero raises to $2,000,000, MP raises all-in.

Is this an instacall? Does a smart player make this shove with a worse hand than ours?

Is it an instacall if our winning this poker tournament decides whether or not our government directly finances terrorism by losing money to a guy who helps the terrorists out? Just wondering.

(Yes, I realized this is a retarded topic, and yes bbfidts, but humour me, plz)
Sheiky
Insta call.

This reminds me of JC's thread when he was playing royal hold em without realisin it...

I suck so I fold.

but seriously, yeah I think I would have to insta-call and puke when villain flips up JJ. I think that theory is right...I personally find it hard to get away from a full boat. Only once in my poker career (albeit short) have I lost to boat over boat/higher holding when I had a boat. The boat is magical icon_cool.gif

Yeah, lol. I was just thinking, like, would a good, thinking player shove here with anything besides AA or JJ? I mean, I think I'm being results oriented, but I have no idea.

2 remaining combos of K-J and 2 remaining combos of A-K vs 1 combo of J-J and 1 combo of A-A...

And they all take this line.
Zach6668
I kinda just out thought myself on this one.

I was thinking that He shouldn't shove here without AA or JJ, or with Kx because the only hands that could call are AK and Kx, but if I'm saying we're folding AK here, or another Kx, then clearly shoving with Kx is a good play if it folds a chop or better hand.

Basically, my head just exploded.

Actually, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the makers thought that when they gave him AK, they thought he had the 2nd nuts, and just forgot about AA. I love Hollywood.

Also, in Lucky You, isn't it funny when Eric Bana bets with a flush draw and Drew Barrymore says "One more heart and you've got a flush," and yet everyone folds. If any of the players didn't suck, wouldn't they shove ATC? I LOVE HOLLYWOOD.

Best part of the movie was the seamless switching between LHE and NLHE while sitting at the same table and in the same hand even!

They were playing limit preflop and on the flop and then they'd spontaneously make large raises.

Also, I wanted to punch him each time he flicked his chips into the pot!

In a hand like this, it's important to check the room for cameras. If you find the camera man and a director, you can fold the second or third nuts with confidence.

lol @ zach,

although, I hate this movie, I thought the exact same shit, like wouldnt there be a raise, re-raise, then call preflop, then a bet raise ,call flop. then bond should think, hmm. i'm thinking villain has a set, then her turns the boat, which isnt even the nut boat, since AA is possible.

and then a J on the river, obv villain isnt going to 3 bet with air, and even if he does, bond should just be calling cuz a raise wont get paid off.

also. The other thing that makes me angry is when Lechiffre tells a guy he has a 14% chance to hit, so the guy will fold? like comon, u want him investing chips in there. and why the fuk do all the hands have to be coolers?

like boat over boat over straight flush? set over set would do just fine.

This bit annoyed me as well until a non poker playing friend pointed out that he was bluffing the other guy. It doesn't make sense to a poker players because we know the fish would never normally fold a draw there, no matter what you say.

I think it would have been funnier if the guy snap called and sucked out on Le Chiffre instead. That would have been a bit truer to life.

The day they make a poker movie where someone doesn't either, 1) All out bluff someone 2) make either Quads, or a Straight Flush or 3) Run KK into AA (which is more standable, but it's just a cliche now), will be the day I watch another poker movie. They should just make a movie about Jamie Gold winning the WSOP and it could be called "SUCKED OUT ON THE RIVER" and it could be a true life story.

I'm in a very negative mood or something...

Dude Watching Bond Explaining Intricacies of Poker to Bond's Broad (And, indirectly, the viewer): "Evil Guy trying to end the world clearly has an overpair or is possibly overplaying AK. James has middle pair and a flush draw with a gutshot straight-flush draw. If Evil Guy calls, James will be a 58-42 favorite against an overpair or 54-46 against an overpair with one of James' suit. Factor in fold equity and that makes this a highly profitable all in despite a relatively high implied End of the World odds."

Reminds me of this bit in Eurorounders (where they play PLO):

- The flop reads 10-9-5, with two spades -
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel: "Pot. I'm all in."
Teddy CIA: "Alright, I call. What do you have?"
Michel: "Jack high flush draw and middle set."
Teddy CIA: "Wrap, with a king high flush draw."
Michel: "Boy, I sure hope my 5:4 edge holds up, otherwise I am going to die."

LOL. I hope everyone has read EuroRounders. My absolute favorite exchange (and one my buddies and I use all the time while playing):

Michel: "Right, okay, but seriously, I played for an hour, doing nothing but folding. Then I won a huge pot."

Joey Croissant: "Aces? Kings? Ace-King doublesuited? Suited aces? High connectors? Middle doublesuited connectors? Two big pair?"

Michel: "Rags."

Joey Croissant: "That's probably fine too, you're only like a 48/52 dog."

EuroRounders

Michel (voiceover): "If you can't find the boorish American hold'em player at the table within half an hour, you are the boorish American hold'em player."

-----

TITLE/CREDITS. This entire movie is in black and white, with subtitles.

-----

Michel (voiceover): "This game is really scummy, and well above what I can afford to play. My entire bankroll is riding on this one session going well. This is Teddy CIA's place, where they only play Pot Limit Omaha, the most sophisticated game in Europe."

- Michel knocks on the window -

Teddy CIA: "You want poker, or whore?"

Michel: "Poker. Give me three stacks of high, elitist society."

-----

Michel: "I raise."

Teddy CIA: "It's a position raise. I call."

- The flop comes 5-7-A, with two diamonds -

Michel: "I bet the pot."

Teddy CIA: "I raise the pot."

Michel: "I reraise the pot."

Teddy CIA: "I reraise the pot."

Michel: "Pot."

Teddy CIA: "Pot."

Michel: "Pot."

Teddy CIA: "Pot."

Michel: "Pot."

Teddy CIA: "Pot."

Michel (voiceover): "I sit back and think. I have three aces - the best possible hand. I want him to think I'm debating a call, but really I'm just thinking about Monte Carlo, and whatever the [censored] is in Monte Carlo."

Michel: *shrugs* "Okay, well, I re-pot it, I'm all in, because I don't think you have a pair." *winks at the camera*

Teddy CIA: "Who are you winking at? It doesn't matter, I call."

Michel (voiceover): "I know before he even says it."

Teddy CIA: "I have 8-6-4-3 with two diamonds, for a wrap straight draw and a flush draw, which is a favorite over your top set."

- Turn is a King. River is a 2 which gives Teddy CIA an ace-to-five straight for the win. -

- Michel sits there, shell-shocked. -

Joey Croissant: "Come on, I'll get you a whore."

-----

Michel (voiceover): "Well, that sucked. Since then, I've sworn off of poker and made my living as a roadside prostitute for boorish American tourists. Hopefully, I can pay my way through law school that way. I can always find games, though. I could turn this truck onto the road and be at the Taj in 19 and a half hours."

-----

Michel (voiceover): "I'm here to pick my friend Worm up from prison."

- Worm walks out of prison -

Michel: "Worm! It's wonderful to see you!"

- They kiss each other passionately on the mouth -

Michel: "How was prison?"

Worm: "I was brutally sodomized on a regular basis."

-----

Michel: "Look...Croissant, I never told you this, but about a year ago, I was playing poker at the Casino des Atlantes, and Marcel Luske walks in. He sits down at the 50/100 pot limit game. And, I mean, the whole place stops, right? Just watching this guy play. After a while there isn't a retarded European gambling game going, because everybody's just, you know, watching this guy."

- Joey Croissant nods -

Michel: "So you know what I did? I sat down."

Joey Croissant: "No way, you need at least 300,000 euros to sit down at a game like that. Such bad financial management is typical of a boorish American!"

- Joey Croissant and Michel laugh for twenty-six minutes -

Michel: "Right, okay, but seriously, I played for an hour, doing nothing but folding. Then I won a huge pot."

Joey Croissant: "Aces? Kings? Ace-King doublesuited? Suited aces? High connectors? Middle doublesuited connectors? Two big pair?"

Michel: "Rags."

Joey Croissant: "That's probably fine too, you're only like a 48/52 dog."

Michel: "I raised. And he came over the top of me, like I was a boorish American. I re-popped it. He potted it again. I think for like two seconds and then I re-pot it."

Joey Croissant: "Jesus [censored] Christ, how much money did you have?"

Michel: "After I bet I would quietly slide my chips back toward my stack, nobody noticed. Anyway, he thinks for a while, looks at me, checks his cards again, and he mucks. I take it down. And then he looks at me and says, 'I have to know. Did you have it?' And I said, 'I'm sorry Marcel, I can't remember.'"

Joey Croissant: "Face!"

Michel: "I know, totally. Anyway, based on that one hand, I felt confident gambling for all the money I had, at one time."

-----

Law Professor: "I am a Jew."

Michel: "I hate you."

-----

Teddy CIA: "We play, heads up, Pot Limit Omaha, 25 and 50 blinds, until one of us has it all?"

Michel: "Out of sheer curiosity, you realize you're giving up like boat loads of equity by agreeing to gamble for money that's effectively yours anyway, right? That you could just not let me play, and then kill me and take what I have?"

Teddy CIA: "I know, but I am a boorish American!"

- Michel and Teddy CIA laugh for seventy-two minutes -

-----

Michel (voiceover): "I pick up Ace-Ace-Jack-Ten doublesuited."

Michel: "I raise the pot."

Teddy CIA: "Very aggressive. But, I reraise the pot."

Michael (voiceover): "He's representing Ace-Ace-King-King doublesuited, the only hand better than mine. I can't call, and give him a chance to catch. I can only fold...if I believe him."

Michel: "I reraise, I'm all in."

Teddy CIA: "Take it down."

-----

- The flop reads 10-9-5, with two spades -

Michel: "Pot."

Teddy CIA: "Pot."

Michel: "Pot."

Michel: "Jack high flush draw and middle set."

Teddy CIA: "Wrap, with a king high flush draw."

Michel: "Boy, I sure hope my 5:4 edge holds up, otherwise I am going to die."

- Turn is an off-suit 5, giving Michel an unbeatable hand. But the river is the ace of spades anyway, because it's always the [censored] ace of spades. -

Teddy CIA: "He beat me. Pay that man his money. His silly, silly-looking European money."

-----

Cab Driver: "Where are you off to?"

Michel: "Monte Carlo."

Cab Driver: "Good luck."

Michel: "Shut the [censored] up."

I find it funny that movies started including NLHE games because its become so wildly popular. Lucky You, James Bond, even the second season of Lost had some. What's funnier, though, is how every single hand played is a trainwreck board followed by someone getting felted. They do such a good job of really showing how NLHE is incredibly dramatic 100% of the time, and it is never incredibly boring, and no one ever folds anything ever.
