Current HOF'er---->former crackhead (although I like him)
Future HOF'er------>implicated in a murder

Both great players and I would love to have had them on my team at any time. But still, UM seems to produce a high amount of thugs.

Shit, I didnt realize he was in such bad shape. They just said on ESPN that he is "clinging to life." I thought it was just a flesh wound.

burglary is when stuff is stolen

robbery is when stuff is taken from a person.

they're both stealing, but robbery needs a human element, like a mugging.

I'm in the media, it's an important distinction.

Robbery (by definition) also needs to involve a weapon or threat of harm or violence (at least, in this jurisdiction).

okay...just extending the definition...cat burglars don't need to be armed and you can't threaten a diamond ring.

i think i might try and take a ride to see if i can find his house. espn posted the addy, havent seen if it was still posted lately though, but he lives like 3-4 miles from my house.

but apparently (if you havent heard) someone broke into his house on 11/17 and apparently they cut his phone lines so this seems to be in connection w/ the previous breakin, and definately pre-empted.

Too bad, but seriously...the guy heard a noise in his house and grabbed a machete he kept by the bed to go investigate?

http://tsn.ca/nfl/news_story/?ID=223694&hubname=

As I think we're all learning right about now, confronting an intruder potentially armed with a gun (effective range - your entire house) while armed with a knife (effective range - 1 yard) is a poor idea. If you don't want to (or aren't allowed to, as it seems might have been the case here) buy a shotgun, then at least invest in better locks, a guard dog, an alarm system you'll actually use...anything is better than planning to threaten an armed intruder with a knife.
brvheart
It's just incredibly sad that he died, what a great player and a huge loss for the NFL. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to other players that chose friends poorly, pick fights at clubs at 2am, murder their limo drivers, etc etc etc.

btw, I'm not implying that Taylor did any of this, but hopefully his death will still be a wake up call to idiots in the league.

This is why I carry and have accessible guns when at home. My son is 12, and will blow your shit away if you try to come in when I am not home.

There is more to this story than we know right now. I'm not going to speculate, except to say this was no random home invasion.

QFT. QFT. But it won't get better because the thug culture is getting as bad in the NFL as it is in the NBA.

Right, you’re not implying that at all.

Let’s pretend that you really aren’t implying that Sean Taylor was involved in any unsavory activities. Well now your hope that his death will be a wake up call is unrealistic.

If you smoke two packs a day and then your grandfather who was also a two pack a day smoker dies of lung cancer; that could be a wake up call to you. But if he dies in a car accident, you’re not going to say to yourself, “Wow, I should really quit smoking.”

If Sean Taylor was a model citizen and was killed just because he had a lot of money and people were robbing him, would that change the habits of people going to clubs?

Why don’t you just come out and say you think he was a thug and brought this upon himself, which is obviously what you believe?

How about this...

...at one point he was a thug who lived by the sword but, by many accounts, tried to clean up his act, only to ultimately die by the sword...

...I for one can't say for sure if his prior living by the sword had any connection with him dying by the sword but sometimes Karma is a bitch.

Being a diehard Redskin fan my whole life, this is truly the saddest day ever for me in terms of sports. I feel like I lost a friend or family member. This whole community in northern VA lives and dies with the Redskins and it is seriously feels like being down in the morgue. Everyone is saddened and shocked by what happened. The team is already struggling enough, but now having to deal with this? Might be close to impossible because the team lost arguably its best player, best teammate, and best friend.

Yeah I know he had a shady past but he had really started to turn a new leaf. I'm sure what happened is in direct relation to his past, or even the people whom he currently associated himself with. All I know is that it's no coincidence that his house was broken into twice within 8 days, and the 2nd time he winds up dead. This was no robbery or burglary...it was a hit. I feel so sad for his girlfriend and young daughter Jackie.

Only diehard fans truly understand the emotional connections we make to our players, especially star players. Yes it might seem a little obsessive to the outsider, but you have to be a true fan to feel this connection. I mean, we live and die by how our team does week to week, and frankly, players like him helped shape how our lives play out 16 weeks out of the year. It's really sad, and I'm going to miss #21 being on my TV on Sundays. I have both his jerseys (#36 from rookie year and current #21) and will still wear them proud on Sundays. He was one helluva football player. The best to his family, friends, and the team.

I am a life long 49er fan (yeah, yeah, hold the jokes) so I know what you're talking about. Even last year when one of our 3rd string OL, Hession, died in the locker room after the Bronco's game I felt some of this. I can only imagine if it was a star player.

Karma I guess. Unfortunate this young kid had to die but when you lead that life you shouldn't be at all surprised this happened.

I love how yesterday when he was "alive" the history of his wrong doings were all over the place, now that he is dead he is made to be some guy who was turning things around and a saint. Again, death is not a good thing, but I would not be at all surprised if this was more than just a "random robbery" when all is said and done. Someone else said they thought it might be a "hit". Probably, you choose a certain life it comes with certain consequences.
speedz99
Considering his home was broken into last week and a knife was left on his bed, it's not too much of a stretch to think this wasn't just a robbery gone bad.

It really does sound like he had gotten his life together though, so it's too bad.

The guy didn't have a choice. He had a ding on his record, thus armed self defense wasn't an option (from what I gather on Wikipedia, due to probation conditions, not a felony).
Being much in a similar boat myself, this is what I have to work with...

It will cleanly remove an arm, a leg or a head without needing a follow-up whack (well, maybe on the leg) but yes, it would lose in a gunfight. If I ever have to use it, it will be in consort with the element of surprise. I will not challenge or confront anyone with it- they'll only know I'm there after they round the wrong corner and their head gets lopped off.

Well, you have to roll credits at the end, and get enough snippets of music in there to sell the soundtrack. Toss in a couple of cinematic shots to drum up some sense of professionalism, and yeah, ten minutes sounds about right, 15 is Heston is game for a little tap dance soft shoe.

We could always add the out-take reel at the end.
