2 straight wins (Montreal and Ottawa), they should get TSN to cover more of their games this year.

Let's meet the 2008 Stanley Cup Champion Buffalo Sabres.

Just kidding, watched the game tonight and they played well. Good to see them getting back on track. I would be surpirsed if they don't qualify for the playoffs.
serge
it was a great game...now can you please do something about Maxim please...

He was sulking there at one point about not getting the puck on a rush.
Maxim is a highlight reel guy but he needs to be fed the puck. Tim Connolly and Derek Roy (IMO) are the catalyst for this team offensively. If these 2 are going then the Vaneks and Afinogenov's will get their chances.
I watched the whole game tonight and I can't think of a great chance that Afinogenov had tonight.
In the interview with Lindy Ruff in the intermission he didn't sound too upset with him. Basically saying he wasn't worried and that once he got 1 he would get on a roll.
serge
I find the similarities between Maxim and Blake to be huge...

Both are fast , both are big goal scorers and for some reason the puck isnt going in...

There are a little similar. They are both speedy where Maxim used his speed and moves to beat defenders one on one where as Blake uses his to get in the open ice. Blake to me is a much better player without the puck than Maxim (Filling the lanes, forechecking etc...). We'll keep Maxim though as it is just a matter of time before he gets hot.

What is with Buffalo's Schedule?
Their last 3 games were @Ott/@MTL/Home to OTT. Now they play a home a home series with MTL next. So in 5 games they only play 2 different teams. Can't remember seeing this before.
They are 2-1 so far and I would be happy if they split the last 2 to go 3-2 against the top 2 teams in terms of points in the conference.
serge
thats why the current schedule sucks...8 teams against one team is too many and it looks like the schedule will be more sensible next year...
Whiter Sr
3 in a row against MTL/OTT/MTL. Let's make it 4 tonight.

I thought for sure the other Sabres fan would be posting in this thread. AJ?
Zach6668
Yeah, I was pretty suprised there wasn't already a Sabres thread, when I saw you created this. Adam almost never posts here anymore, it seems, lol.

Coincidentally, he got married around the same time he stopped posting.

I am assuming that is ajs510's real name.
Another big win last night. 3 in a row and back to 500. Bring on the Capitals.
Whiter Sr
Another win Mondya night for 5 in a row against a weak Capitals team.
St Louis tonight for 6 in a row.
It's good to see the team starting to realize they still have a good team even without Drury, Briere and Zubrus and that they can play with anyone in the league any night.
Actually the Sabres never had Connolly all last year and he is playing very well when he is in the lineup. Hopefully he can keep his head up when he's areound Schaeffer.

I may not post as much as I used to, but I'm still here.

Big game against St. Louis tonight, should be a good showdown between two of the hottest teams in the league.

It's not televised here. Superb.

looks like I missed an exciting game. They made such a big deal in the St. Louis media about Stempniak trying to break out of his slump in front of all his family (he's from west seneca) and obviously he is held off the score sheet entirely.
serge
This happens with every game in Toronto....There is at least 2 or 3 players on every team that has his family there...Its annoying actually
digitalmonkey
Sekera with the first of many he will score over his career. Yeah that's right, he's a member of the Canadian Gothic. My defense will be sick in a few years...

Andrej Sekera
Matt Niskanen
Kyle Cumiskey
Ladislav Smid
Zbynek Michalek
Raymond Macias
Brendan Smith
Oskars Bartulis
Steve Eminger
Brendan Mikkelson
Vladimir Mihalek

Yeah on the highlights they talked about him being a great young prospect.

Also after the play by Paille it was sick to see St Louis score 2 seconds later for the win. He knocked the puck out of the air in the crease behind Miller when it was a sure goal.

Bump to the top for the hottest team in the league at the moment.
Especially after the thumping of the Hurricanes on Saturday night.
serge
That was a good old fashioned thumping..They scored more touchdowns than the Bills...
Whiter Sr
Bump for tonights game vs the Kings.

It sucks when you go to bed and the score is 1-0 and then wake to watch the highlights to find out the team lost 4-1. What a 2nd period. Sabres were outshot 16-3. Not going to win many games taking 20 minutes off.

They better turn things around against a weak LA team. LA is last in the West and the Sabres are @ .500 but are tied for 2nd last in the East because they have only played 25 games thus far. Most of the other teams have played 27 or 28 games to date.
serge
The games played is so annoying...I wish the schedule maker would make it so that the teams play the same amount of games , or fairly close to it at any given time..

The standings dont mean anything as 8 teams are separated by so few points and they have all played different amount of games...

I laughed the other day in a thread when someone said their team was tied for 5th in the conference but are really in 5th alone as they win the tie breaker for best GF/GA ratio. I was laughing as it was only like 20 games in. If 2 teams have 28 points in 25 games they are tied. No need to worry about tie breakers at this point. Once we get down to the last 10 games you can start talking about tie breakers.

Perhaps they should post the standings according to win percentage like they do in baseball.
serge
That would work if there was no points issued for losses...

If that was me, it was because I was excited smile.gif It's not often the Bruins are ahead of Montreal in the standings!

I can't remember who it was. I'm sure the post was in a joking matter it just made me laugh.

Outshot 33-17 and outscored 8-2 to the lowly LA Kings last night. Thibault has his worst start as a Sabre as it looked like he let in a few softies in the 1st period.

I still won't pick against the Sabres in the survivor pool.
Whiter Sr
This just in the Sabres "may" suck.
Inconsitent to say the least.
Lose by 6, win by 6 then lose by 3.
serge
Very hard team to figure out, some nights they looked great and are unstoppable and then they get shellacked...

HOwever as a fan I rather watch the Sabres anyday compared to those boring trapping Bruins..

Can't argue with that.
It seems like every night on the Spin they complain about the terrible Boston Bruins games. "If you would like to go to sleep watch a period of the Bruins game."
The problem is they are winning and are in position to make the playoffs this year. The coaches job is to win hockey games with the talent he has. This is what Julien gets paid to do. They are not there to impress the fans.
What owners have to realize is that winning games doesn't always bring in the fans. You also have to put out an exciting product.
Whiter Sr
And we're back in business 4 in a row. Who's needs shoot out and OT losses to jump up the standings in the NHL. I like when you win the game in regulation.

We are due for a big blowout loss in the next couple of games though.
Whiter Sr
I feel a little left out. Serge gives every other hockey team thread a nice little poem and nothing for my hot Sabres who passed the Leafs the other night and still have a couple of games in hand.
serge
In the land of wings and super bowl agony
There is a team called the Sabres who have a rich history
From the days of Perreault, Turgeon and Mogilny
To the current guys Maxim,Roy and Connolly

The Sabres are fast and they can score in bunches
But the defence is poor and responsible for throwing up the fans lunches
The loss of Briere and Drury have hurt them quite a bit
But nothing is worse when the Leafs beat them till they have to just quit

It's nice to feel the love.
Just waiting for January 19th to get my $$ back.

Sabres Country is not a happy place to be these days.

Hab's nation is doing OK, for now. But I feel for the Sabers, fun team to watch at least.
Whiter Sr
Another tough loss last night.

Played a good game against the best team in the conference despite missing Roy and Afinogenov due to injuries. I only got to watch the 1st half of the 1st period because I had to play hockey myself but from NHL.com it appeared to be a close game in terms of scoring chances and the shots were even.

I think it's time for another 7 game winning streak. Hopefully it will start Saturday against the Devils who have won the last 2 we played against them in shootouts.
Whiter Sr
Surprise Surprise Sabres blow a 2 goal lead and lose to the Devils in another shootout. From the highlights it looked like the Sabres had plenty of chances to put them away but couldn't beat Brodeur.

Looking forward to watching the game Wed vs the Rangers on my free week of the NHL Network.

Spacek (back spasms) joins Roy (shoulder), Afinogenov (groin), Connolly (groin) and Numminen (heart, he's officially gone for the year) on the sidelines although Afinogenov did practice yesterday he is not expected back for tomorrow nights game.

I still have faith that if this team gets healthy they can go on enough of a run to squeak into a playoff spot.
Whiter Sr
Bump to 1st page. I hate when my Sabres thread gets to the 2nd page.

A big win over Dallas going into the All Star break.
Roy has been fantastic since his return from the shoulder injury. Looking forward to the 2nd half.
Whiter Sr
A solid game offensively for Campbell in the All Star game last night. A Goal and 2 assists.
I really hope the Sabres can get him signed back up at the end of the season. Usually when a guy calls negotiations quits half way through the season they are looking to be a UFA. I really hope this isn't the case.
Whiter Sr
Another big win for the Sabres last night. They are currently tied for 10th and only 4 pts out of 8th with at least 2 games in hand on everyone.

They play again tonight against Florida.

Bad news on teh injury front as it looks like Connolly has bone spurs in his hip.
http://sabres.nhl.com/team/app/?service=pa...rticleid=351551

Roy and Spacek are back in the line up so all we are missing now is Connoly and Afinogenov. I don't see any reason why this team won't return to the playoffs this year.
serge
One of the best bets I made this year was against Adam...

He bet me that the Sabres would be 10pts ahead of the 8th place team...

I am pretty much a lock in this one...

You are definitely looking good. I like their chances of making the playoffs but not beating 8th place by 10 pts. They would have to get very hot for a very long time.

You have to figure you make a good bet once in a while with some of your other bets. Ottawa VS Toronto PTs, Montreal vs Toronto GA etc...
Whiter Sr
Sabres win again 1-0 last night in Florida.
Definitely not a typical 1-0 hockey game as the Sabres outshot the Panthers 41-33 with lots of chances at both ends of the rink. Vokoun and Miller both played very well.

Still no sign of Afinogenov or Connolly yet.

Its so frikkin annoying..It seems like all my players get day to day groin injuries and end up missing 3 weeks...Afinogenov has really let me down this year..I was expecting a lot out of him this year, especially with the absence of Drury and Briere.

I really thought the Roy-Vanek-Afinogenov line would be great for the Sabres this year. Roy has been the only guy on that line who has contributed up to my expectations, especially since he has been back from his shoulder injury.
Whiter Sr
Sabres look to make it 4 in a row tonight.

They head to Atlanta to meet a Kovalchukless Thrashers team. He is supposed to be out for a week according to the Scorre last night.

At first glance you would think this would mean an easy victory for Buffalo but this is the team that can lose to LA 10-2 one night and then beat the sharks 7-1 the next night.

Still no return of Connolly or Afinogenov. It looks like Connolly will be the first one back of the 2 in the next week or so.

Hey first time poster in this thread...and well first time reader tooo.

Does anyone here have a line on decently priced Sabres tickets for Feb 29 against the habs?

I looked on their website but it says the cheapest ticket is 69 bucks...when did sabres get so pricey?

I would assume after they won the Presidents Trophy last year.
No help here though on the tickets.
