Pellet gun (like, a *really* good one- 1K FPS, scope, etc) or PSP?
Influcted
I'm leaning towards PSP.
scram
Also: Fully automatic BB machine gun.

One of the three: A super accurate, high velocity scoped pellet rifle, a full-auto BB machinegun, or a PSP. He's definitely getting one of the three.

wow, from my pacifist, PC neck of the woods? Unless you want the mother to press charges, the PSP is the far safer choice. wink.gif

Ya know, I kinda semi grew up there.
Lived there from age 9 to about 15 (which are pretty profound years in ones life).
Attended West Tualatin View Elementary, Cedar Park Middle- got kicked out of there and did a stretch at St. Marys Home for Boys. Used to regularly hang out at virtually every baseball card shop in Beaverton/Portland.

Yes, there was still an undeniable hipster element back then, but it wasn't anywhere near what it is today. That place has become tie-dyed 'corporation blamerville' USA; a mecca for the least productive, most annoying sort of person this country produces.

It was substantially less faggy when I lived there. All my best friends grew up to be loggers. zololol.

i am going to assume that its sort of rural there and say go for the pellet riffle. i didn't find the psp to be all that fun. an automatic bb gun just seems like its made to get into trouble with. but the riffle he could have fun challenging himself to shoot things more accurately from farther away and stuff like that.

Yeah, but if the kid's ultimate goal is to be a real hunter, he's going to have to learn to overwhelm helpless prey with automatic weaponry at some point anyways, right?

they'll manage to blame either of the gifts if he murders someone later in life, so buy both to get him national coverage.

Any dad who raises a son in P-town who grows up to be a logger against all odds should be proud, indeed.

To sum up the Northwest.. hmm... picture worth 1000 words?

Excellent point! Funny how we still had mass murderers and school shootings before video games..

Of course, back then we didn't have an overwhelming surplus of media to span the globe looking for depressing news to boost ratings.

Imagine living 40 years ago.. You wouldn't be able to hear about every horrible thing that happened in the world on a daily basis. Someone could run over a cat in Beaver Creek, Ontario, and you wouldn't even hear about it complete with video and neighbor commentary at 5 O'clock sharp!

Def the pellet rifle. I grew up in the country and spent many great hours prowling around with a buddy shooting birds.

PC? um...no, but it went a long way towards making both of us deadly shots when we went hunting for big game. I mean, when you're shooting sparrows and such and get so good that you give each other crap for NOT making a head shot at one 50ft up a tree with a pellet gun w/open sights it makes you very accurate with a scoped rifle.

This was like 25 years ago also. Probably wouldn't go over so good now.

I grew up the same way. We lived in the country and I went "tweety bird hunting" after school. If you want to make him a better shot peep sights or post sights would do it. Scope on a pellet gun seems kind of ridiculous, everything you can kill is within 100 yards anyway.

The fully automatic BB gun sounds so dope but a horrible present for a young kid. It's like a accident/news story waiting to happen.
scram
The full auto BB machine gun is probably the most "fun" thing I own (and I include in this the numerous firearms I still technically "own" but no longer posses, jet ski, property on an Island, etc)

Seriously. It's a total ****ing hoot. You can get a mod board to make it cycle 1200 rpm on natural FA (factory is about 600 rpm and 6 shot burst only)

When I'm buying gifts for young children, I try to make sure it's something erotics enough to pique his interest, but seemingly parentally inconspicuous, so as not to tip his guardian(s) off to my intentions. Think: G.I. Joe vibrator, or like a teddy bear, but with a giant penis. But sedative candy is really your best bet, if you're gonna' be sleazy about it.

Totally depends on the kid. If he's a sports/outdoors/etc type, obviously the BB gun. If he's more quiet/geeky, go PSP.

I just don't think getting a kid a BB gun is good-especially if he is 7. On the other hand, what 7 year old kid doesn't like playing games? And if he wants, he can get a shooting game.

7 isn't to young for a bb gun imo. Then again I've been shooting rifles and shotguns pretty much my entire life, so I'm a little biased. I'd definitely get the bb gun as kids these days spend to much time indoors as it is, bb guns have been an "it" gift for decades for a young kid, and I am not willing to do research on this but the PSP is probably going to be replaced with a different model soon as they're pretty old in game console years(again, don't quote me on this) plus the various games and movies that you'd eventually have to buy for it.

Yep..This was pretty much my post.

Stop your kid/nephew/friend's kid/adopt-a-family-for-Christmas-at-work from being one of the fat, nerdy, pasty white, walking heart attack kids.. and buy him the gun.

I had a BB gun when I was young, and lets just say that it wasn't a good idea to give me (who was a pretty responsible kid) a gun.

I hate to bring this back to the parents because I'm sure it was mostly your fault, but parents should know if their child is mature enough for a gun and to make sure that they are supervised at all times, etc etc. But, it was probably all your fault anyways.

It was obviously the kid's (my) fault. Even the most mature 7 year old, isn't really mature enough for a gun.
GrinderMJ
7 seems a little young for a gun honestly. Kids are stupid, and guns should be something that is introduced to a child with a 100% level of seriousness. Kids need to learn all the safety procedures that come with gun use, and they need to realize that it's not a toy. I have a hard time believing many 7 year olds are mature enough for this (even though bb guns are made for children)

Is this your kid? Are you his uncle? Are you his "uncle"?

I'm not positive that a gun is an appropriate gift unless its from his father. And if his father is going to make sure he learns about how to use it properly.
scram
His "father" is a broke-dick loser who couldn't afford to lease a pot to piss in- and even if he could, he isn't as involved in the kids life as he should be, so I occasionally step in and do "dad" stuff.
BigDMcGee
I really think most kids would rather have the psp. Most kids, these days, would get way more use out of a psp. They would use the gun enthusiastically for about a week, then put it in the closet and forget about it while they play first person shooters. The kid would get a couple years worth of play out of a psp. You'd have to specifically know this kid likes guns, is into them, before getting them the bb gun. Barring that info, I'd play it safe, and go with the psp.

WTF?

I would never give any kid a pellet or bb gun period. What's the goal here? How many fcking innocent birds or neighborhood children you can maim and kill?

A 7 year old?

When a kid is old enough, and if you are his father and choose to do so, but him a real gun, teach him how to respect it reverently and use it accordingly. Have a place to take him to use it.

In this case you said his dad is a broke dick loser so all of that's out of the question.

Get him some real toys, hopefully something that will help learn to be succesful and get out of this loser family and move to England and hook up with LG
DrawingDeadInDM
Yeah..if dad's not gonna be around, a high powered bb gun probably isn't such a great idea. One of those cool airsoft ones, maybe..but not something that could potentially disable a neighbor kid.
