QUOTE
HONOLULU - Television bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman's show has been pulled from the air indefinitely by A&E, two days after a private phone conversation in which the reality star used a racial slur repeatedly was posted online.

"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take `Dog The Bounty Hunter' off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," the network said in a statement Friday. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."

It's always amused the shit out of me- whenever some public official or celebrity gets "caught" saying nigger or some other racial/ethnic slur, they immediately begin shucking and jiving, undergoing a "healing process", meeting with Rabbis or Al Sharpton, apologizing, begging, pleading and on and on and on... It's about a hundredfold more pathetic than their transgression to begin with.

The best thing he could do right now is to be relatively unrepentant- maybe apologize for whomever he offended, but say that it was a private conversation between himself and his son and that his family hasn't ever been too particular about political correctness or treading lightly about "feelings". That he made clear in the conversation he isn't a particularly "hateful" person, but, given his life experiences and present vocation, he isn't the sort of guy who goes gushy over our societies grossly exaggerated sense of tolerance, either.
He would be immediately transformed from a white trash ex-con bail bondsman with a circus TV show into an anti-PC cultural hero. He's losing his show either way- at least he can salvage something by not going out like a gutless, spineless turd.

But no, he'll do the talk-show junket arm-in-arm with Jesse Jackson, apologizing, rationalizing and minimalizing... What he thinks is 'damage control' will actually be the final salvo in his "public eye" career before he's blacklisted and eventually forgotten not because he said "nigger" but because he didn't have to sack to stand up for his own beliefs.

I'd rather him just have said. "look, you caught me. I hate niggers."

This is what A&E gets for making a white trash ex-con a "spiritual" hero.

I just read in wikipedia what the felony Dog commited in his youth was. First ****ing degree murder. From wikipedia

Chapman was sentenced to five years in a Texas prison in 1977 after a conviction on charges of the first degree murder of Jeremy Oliver. He was released on probation after serving less than two years of hard labor. He maintains his innocence in the murder.

First off, what the fuk? How do you only get 5 years and serve two for First degree murder. Did he rat someone out? Did he kill a black guy? I can't for the life of me figure out how he only did two years.

Secondly.. that's the messed up society we live in, that we're willing to lift up this white trash piece of sht CONVICTED MURDERER as a hero, give him his own show, glorify him as a "Spiritual" man. But when he uses one of the magic words, THEN We rip his show off the air.

People should be 100 times more concerned about this dirtbag being a murderer than being a racist. This country is fcked.

He's talked about this on his show and I don't believe it was actually 1st degree murder but 2nd degree. Murder is murder but maybe this explains
why the sentance was so low? Also, it was 30 years ago and the sentances weren't as tough back then as they are now.

I completely agree with you. I was just trying to help explain why he would have been released after only 2 years.

I could never figure out how he got a show either...on anything but MTV or something anyway.

What bugs me is how he prays before going after some slug then, when they catch them, he'll cus them out like a sailor and threaten to break their neck or something before changing course again and playing counselor and preaching to them.

Hyprocricy at it's finest.

It was "back in the day" when sentences for mutual acts of stupidity between criminals were far less harsh- also, it was Texas, which has always has a fairly pronounced machismo driven culture of death and willingness to accept 'killin'. Lastly, he was pretty young, so when you add up those three things, it makes sense that a young man in Texas in the 1960's, given a few magic words and properly presented mitigators in front of the right judge, wouldn't do a huge amount of time.

Oddly enough, TX during that same time period is guilty of some of the most tragic sentencing horrors (like, a guy possessing a single joint getting 15+ years etc) that the country has ever seen.

Go figger.

yea this guy was a ****ing criminal scum bag. how he ever got a show is mind boggling. the few times i saw it made me sick, him and his dumb white trash family running around acting like theyre cleaning up the streets and on some holy mission. good thing hes off the air now and hopefully he finds himself back in jail soon.

Actually, murder, child molesting, treason and a few others- pretty much everyone- con and cop alike- agrees that it's OK to hold those things on you forever.

LOL!
I agree, neither are worthy of much consideration- I used those "words" to address the fact that people on both sides of this issue agree that there are definitely some infractions worthy of a lifetime penalty, substantial discrimination, etc.

It's when the term "felony" is applied equally to someone who mollests children as it is to someone who cheated on their income taxes... Someone who murdered three people versus someone who had pot. That's where we stray and that's the mindless, inconsiderate world where people like PotOddsRAC live. Since they're too stupid to actually analyze and decipher for themselves, they rely heavily on surrogates for thinking (like labels) that allow them to have an opinion without having to actually invest any thought into it.

He was charged with murder because he drove the get away car.

Pretty simple and easy to find explanation.

I must admit though, that I'm shocked an older man from the south who's spent a year or two in prison and wears a mullet dropped the N bomb.

Anyone else think the son was pretty shady to tape the old man and turn it over to the enquirer? Hopefully he made an ass-load of cash to make it worth selling out your own father, ruining his livelihood, which has provided I'm sure a luxurious lifestyle to the kid with little effort on his part....

What's funny is he's now managed to get himself excluded from whatever wealth Dog might have had to bequeath him.
