I have seen this on 2 plus 2 and i think its a really great idea. I am going to copy and paste the instructions on that thread here. Here it is.

Basically, if u have a thread saved (or know where to find it) that was instrumental in your development as a NL player, or just think it was a great thread, plz post it here.

also, if there is a thread that u remember being great but the search function is being difficult, post the summary of it here and maybe someone has it saved as a favorite or knows how to find it.

I think this could turn out really good. I will post some when I get a chance, about to go swimming with some Italian chicas icon_biggrin.gif

I tried to do something like this, in other forums, where I post a "resource guide" and sticky it, but it's too much effort for me to actually start it, lol, and then no one has ever bothered to link their faves most of the time.

I hope this kicks off though.

if it does, will you sticky it?

Ya, of course.

I think since Roberts started this thread, he should maintain it kinda like Cobalt does in his Glossary of FCP Speak terms in general.

That way, people don't have to fish through the whole thread for good items. Maybe that's wishful thinking.

This is one of the better discussions from one of my threads that I just reread:

Postflop Bullet Play

No flaming and good analysis by all posters.

Not surprisingly Naismith stayed out of that thread until the end, and then flamed.

I'll try and contribute some stuff to here when I get more of a chance. There are some good live hand discussions I had, plus some earlier stuff when I played bigger MTTs in the tourney strat that I thought was helpful from solid posters.

Now I'm on LFT from poker, although I feel like I'm going to be revitilized in the next few months to go on a run at this thing.

Dude, he started 23 pages of stuff? WTF! That's nuts. I think I got like 2 pages and that's really all in NL.

This one taught me that I can just go broke sometimes but I have outs

you have to call

Edit: I've also noticed that I was playing 1/2 NL nearly 2 years ago but now i play 0.5/1 NL. Although I adhered to proper BR management slowly building $200 on FCP to 5K I somehow have no clue where it went and have been grinding for the last 12 months from 0.1/0.25 NL just to comfortably play 0.5/1.

I've been around for quite a while, and to be fair, a lot of those early topics are pretty dumb.

Also, I do my best to create interesting threads. I certainly take pride in the thought-provokingness and formatting.

There's my one thread of contribution to this forum. I used to play poker at decent stakes!

I think in addition to posting about the best threads, we could post about 1 key concept in NL Hold Em that really brought you to that Ahah! moment.

For me, I think the biggest concept was trying to merge your betting patterns so that your bluffs were indentical to your made hands. When I first started playing poker after Moneymaker won in 2003, I remember being really caught up in slowplaying and being tricky. Realizing the benefit of fastplaying your strong hands I think was one of the key factors in making me more confident of my poker game. I think I still tend to slowplay a little too much, but I am much improved in that aspect.

There have been a few "A-HA!" moments for me. I'm sure there will be a TON more, as I'm not very satisfied with my game.

1. Pot control. Saying it and kind of understanding it, are way different than practicing it. This actually may have led me to a leak of being too passive because when I first started practicing it correctly I was amazed at how well things were going.

2. Reraising PF. 3-betting more liberally PF opens up a whole world to you as a poker player. This concept is much much different than live play where the PF game is so loose/passive. Online you need to be 3-betting and taking control of hands, it also gives you a false loose image when in reality it's just good aggressive poker.

Those are the ones that come to mind at first.

I've said it in the past, and I'll say it again...when you get the confidence to start raising donkbets with air, it takes your game to a new level.

I started doing that a long time ago and in my new forays back into online poker, I'm amazed at how many varying board textures people donk into me, I raise and they instashove. Or they donk, I raise and they call with 3rd pair and donk the turn again. It's really weird.

Yeah...let me revise that...it doesn't work live (since it's usually at least TPTK) and it's generally a "test" online with a mediocre hand. The way you combat the "test" is to "test" them back...which is quite strong. If they shove on you or call and donk again...well, now you've got a read on the lines they like and can play accordingly.

Oh, I've got another good tip...

If you read no other poker strategy book, do yourself a favor and pick up The Book of Bluffs.
