I read about Genarlow Wilson quite some time ago when the story first was featured on ESPN.com. I am happy to annouce that he has finally been freed from his sentence. For those of you who don't know, Genarlow was sentenced to 10 years in prison when he was in highschool. He was 17 at the time and he was sentenced the 10 years for recieving oral sex from a 15 year old girl another highschooler from his school. They never had intercourse although if they had the punishment would have been less then for having oral sex. The whole situation was just disgusting to read about.

There is a good read on his life since he got out on www.ESPN.com , which has been about 4 days now and counting. He recieved a lot of support includinga lawyer working free for his cause over these 2+ years and support from politicians and even ex-president Carter. I can't be certain of his talent, but I hope he makes something of himself and has an impact on many peoples lives. In highschool he defended the now pro-football player Calvin Johnson and held him to 4 catches in 2 games, whatever there skill level was at the time he must have some type of chance of making it at the very least in the college level and possibly beyond.

I did write a letter to Genarlow at the time I first heard his story, although I'm sure he never personally read it. Most likely it got filtered out or read by someone else overseeing those things for him. For those of you who have been thinking about him and showing support or praying for him I ask for continued work in these areas. I recall a few others talking about him and showing support, I don't recall if Daniel did or not, but it sticks out to me he did. Also Mark Cuban wrote a Blog about Genarlow and the injustice he thought he was enduring, reads from a person like Mark Cuban just remind me how classy high profile people can really be sometimes.

Sorry for rambling, I'm just estatic that he is out and has the support of his family, his church community and countless others who had no reason to stand up for this guy and did anyways.

I think this was great since it was BS he was in jail and the GA Supreme court made the right decision

I also agree that it was right to set him free. Although I don't think this was a race issue as some might say, considering both participating parties in the "rape" were black, I do think it brought to light that the law is not black and white, and each individual case needs to have proper attention paid to it.
