You're not going to find arguments from other SECers that this was anything other than ridiculous...and in fact, a number of Bammers admit that also.

True, just shows how far from reality Sabin is.
Freddec
yeah Saban is nothing but a joke..........but he will have 'Bama back in the top 25 on a regular basis soon I think.......

I knew after Bama lost the LSU game their season was gonna go straight to the shit can.......you could just see the life drift right out of the bodies of their whole sideline after that game......

Jadaki.......don't even try to compare this loss to the couple I-AA loses the Big 10 has this year.............lol, good try though, i don't blame ya....it was an ugly loss but no one will remember it next year........the App State game will be talked about for years......

I'm guessing the two time I-AA champ would contend for the Sun Belt championship.

Jesus, you must have failed English 101.

You know what the SEC just delivered... no team in the NT game. Have fun being the best conference with a bunch of above average teams but no great ones. I haven't seen any team in the SEC this year that can play good defense for a full game, as evidenced by nearly every team averaging over 30 points a game.

TN having a shot to win the SEC is hilarious.

Rather ridiculous. At this point, I just wish LSU's crazy-ass end-of-game play against Auburn hadn't worked out. (Granted, there are a lot of other routes...but that's the easiest.)

I think you guys will have to forgive at least a couple of the higher scoring SEC games as they went to multiple overtimes...which is somewhat exciting. Auburn and Alabama managed to keep the score fairly reasonable. Obviously, that's not a complete excuse, and I'll still agree that this is a down year for the conference.

I'm rather bummed that Kansas got knocked off by Missouri. I wanted Kansas and Hawaii to be the only undefeateds...which should've forced an overhaul of the BCS system. Here's the thing though...if you're D1A and you go undefeated, and no one else does...you deserve to be in that title game. I don't care what your schedule is...it's the same division. If you don't like it, break up the division...but don't pretend that all of these teams are on "par" and then treat them differently when it comes to the end of the season.

it is worse than parity. The truth of the matter is that there was not one team worthy of being called #1 this year. Everyone kinda stinks. If LSU was any good would they have just lost to a team that is completely one-dimensional on offense??? It is all a huge joke. Any of these so-called title contenders would have had their asses handed to them by any champion from 2000-2005.....

this is like parity on steroids. therefore, it is silly to debate which conference is best since every conference has been a mess this year. big ten stinks, SEC is wayyy down, pac-10 is the only one that held up this year.....just unlucky Dixon got hurt.

Nothing to forgive, those OT games have been entertaining but defense has taken a second seat to offense in the SEC. I suppose it's to be expected considering some of the coaches that are there.

Don't have a favorite team, but grew up 20 minutes from Cal so I root for Cal/Big 10. I won't try to argue for them though as I don't know enough about them.

However, I have lived in the ATL for 7 years now and I can say I get a HUGE laugh out of the SEC nuthuggers. My wife and I hang a flag for whatever team is playing GA that week. I love it!! Tennessee winning the div and having a shot at a BCS game is the biggest joke in the country. Obviously the SEC didn't think they were a very good conference since pretty much everyone is going to a west coast style offense and not recruiting defense anymore.

It has nothing to do with strength of schedule, but rather a complete lack of consistency from top to bottom of the SEC.

USC would beat any SEC team right now by a minimum of 10 points. I'd bet my car on it.

What is going to make me really sick is if both TN or LSU AND GA make it to a BCS game. That would be a travesty.

PLEASE PLEASE for the sake of the G.O.D. give Hawaii an SEC team in the BCS game.

have no clue, but I know its not cheap to run and operate a network............so I don't see it being that big of a difference actually

Remember the Yankees have their own network and make tons of money off of it. Probably because I would imagine they get all ad revenue vs only getting a portion of it if they were in a deal with a major network.

The only problem with the big 10 network is that they want people to pay extra for the channel even though your team might only play 1-2 games a year on it. Kind of like the NFL network.

What about Tenn., Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina?
Much better then the next top 4 in the Big 10

what about them? Tenn is one of most overrated teams every year, South Carolina lost their 5 games, bwahahaha. They aren't any better than Penn St or Purdue IMO.

And arguing about soft OOC scheduling is so stupid. Every big school does it, they have to. The small schools need the paycheck they get to get killed in front of 100K people.

Lets see here:
Ohio St. vs. LSU
Michigan vs. Florida
Illinois vs. Georgia
Penn St. vs. Tenn
Wisconsin vs. Kentucky (toss up)
Iowa vs. Auburn
Purdue vs. Alabama (toss up)
Northwestern vs. South Carolina
Indiana vs. Arkansas
Mich. St. vs. Vandy (toss up)
Minn. vs. Miss.
IMO
How do u think it would play out?

I think OSU would have a better shot at beatling LSU than Florida, if you look at the last 2 OSU losses they got beat by very mobile QB's. Flynn doesn't really have that threat. Maybe I'm biased but I think it's a toss up.

Penn St on the road is a completely different team than Penn St at home, but Tenn just doesn't impress me. They seem to find a way to lose every key game they play.

Mich St should beat Vandy, and I think Mich St will improve in the future with Dantonio there.

Minn vs Miss is just painful to think about

Everything else looks pretty spot on.

"What is going to make me really sick is if both TN or LSU AND GA make it to a BCS game. That would be a travesty. "

You don't actually think Georgia does NOT deserve an at large bid do you? Seriously? They've beaten Okl. St, Florida, at Ga Tech, Auburn (by a WAY bigger margin than FL or LSU), and at Alabama. Their only blemish is the home loss to South Carolina by 4 pts early in the year. Not a bad loss, and losing at Tennessee is nothing to be ashamed about (right Cal fans? Remember, you stomped TN this year, but they stomped you at home in 2006. Pac 10 fans seem to conveniently forget this fact). Georgia, in my opinion, is surely one of the top 10 teams out there.

I think the BCS shapes up like this: Title Game: WVU v. Missouri, Ohio St. v. USC Rose Bowl (good game). I think Va Tech wins the ACC, and LSU wins the SEC championship. Then the at large teams will be Hawaii, Georgia, Arizona St., and Kansas. Georgia and Kansas definitely have the advantage of no conference championship loss to sneak in there.

And what is so bad about Tennessee this year? I don't get it. Losses at Cal, at Florida, and at Alabama weren't exactly bad losses last time I checked. When you have the best record in your part of the conference, you get to the conference championship.

I think Georgia should be a lock for a BCS game, they are a solid team.

Look at the scores of those losses for Tenn, 45-31 59-20 and 41-17. They have 1 good win(UGA) and a few mediocre wins (ARK, UK). They should have lost to Vandy also and got really lucky.

I can't believe you are lobbying for Okl. St, Alabama, and Ga Tech as quality wins seeing as they are a combined 1 game above .500. Auburn had one quality win all year and Florida was the model of inconsistency. Their defense left something to be desired and the 3 times they scored less than 30 points they lost.

TN was not very good this year. They got mauled in their 3 losses, luckboxed against Vandy and Kentucky, and only beat South Carolina by 3 points. They showed up for one game this year and let's face it, as much as I dislike UGA, if they played tomorrow it wouldn't even be close.

I think Hawaii should get the #3 team in the nation. They deserve it. Anyone remember the Boise State bowl game last year? Everyone was saying the same thing about them as they are about Hawaii this year. Unfortunately, I think if Oklahoma and Tennessee pull out wins it will leave Hawaii out of the BCS.

Oh, and I certainly haven't forgot about the azz-whooping we took last year at TN. Just glad we were able to return the favor this year.

I am a Pac 10 man and I wouldn't even argue for their superiority this year. Wouldn't it be sweet to have conference battles to start the season kind of like what they do in basketball? Of course that would leave everyone arguing at the end of the season because "that was 3 months ago".

In fairness I think losing in triple overtime isn't as bad as losing in regulation. In Triple OT you are forced to go for two so a lot of it can come down to luck.

They do need to look at OT, maybe start from the 40 or something. It seems way too easy to score, you already start in FG range.

It seems like you are saying Georgia was ranked higher than LSU in the final BCS rankings, not the rankings before LSU won their conference championship.

I think a prerequisite for playing in the national championship game should be that you win your conference first.

Um..It wasn't obvious or I wouldn't have asked. Read JJJ's post for why one might be confused.

Also, Georgia has no beef as they didn't win their division, let alone their conference. Beat South Carolina and a mediocre Tennessee team and then you don't have to worry about it.
Vandees
LSU in the title game is a joke. They have been completely lucky about 4-5 times this year, and the "undefeated in regulation" argument is laughable.

LSU and Georgia have 7 opponents in common this year. Georgia has beat teams LSU lost to or beat them by more than LSU did 4 out of the 7 times. And Alabama was 3 pts for GA, last minute TD for LSU. LSU beat SC and Tennessee, but GA lost to Tennessee at TN, not on a neutral field, and LSU beat SC by a fake FG late, and a defensive TD in the SEC title game. I don't see how Georgia should be punished for being in the tougher half of the SEC and losing a tiebreak.

The national championship game should be between the teams that are playing the best RIGHT NOW. The 2 top teams. Ohio St makes it in. I think Georgia has a legitimate gripe. OK, so you have to win your conference argument next. Well, if you want it that way, make it a rule. Nebraska got in a few years ago that way.

So LSU goes from #7 to #2? What??? They jump Va Tech, who beat a better team by more points. (yes, I know they played and LSU beat them....12 weeks ago)

Enough LSU bashing. How bout a 8 team playoff please? Add the Cotton and Cap One to the mix, play 4 on Dec 23, 2 on Jan 1 and the title game on Jan 7-8.

Exactly.. using that idea, a team like say, Florida State, could drop it's first three games and pull their shit together and win out, go 9-3 and be in the National Title game? What? No.

Besides, if it's for the teams playing best right now, why play the first 10 games or so?

I just found some very interesting info....

QUOTE
The Big 10, since 1998, has traveled 107,881 miles and is 61-51 on the road. The SEC has traveled 42,141 miles and is 41-41 on the road. These stats include in conference games. The SEC covers a smaller region than many other conferences. That accounts for some of the miles.

Since 1998 the SEC, with 12 teams, has played 82 road games. The Big 10, with one fewer team, has played 112.
Georgia is ridiculous... they have traveled something like 350 total miles for non-conference games in 10 years.

Check out some of the information here.

And Florida...

QUOTE
Teams from the Southeastern Conference hold down seven of the top eight spots for teams having traveled the fewest miles. This includes Florida, which last played a nonconference road game outside of the Sunshine State on Sept. 21, 1991, at Syracuse (a 38-21 Gator loss).
CobaltBlue
For what it's worth, Auburn's played USC, Syracuse, and Georgia Tech away while I was in school. And, they're playing West Virginia next year.
