Well, Drew Carey's first episode aired today. Overall, I'd give him a 8, not great, but still ok. Obviously, he had some massive shoes to fill, and given time, I think he could be almost as good. There is potential. The reason I wouldn't rate him higher is that he might have been trying just a little bit too hard (i.e. too many jokes), and he didn't have a very demanding presence like Bob Barker always used to. After watching Bob Barker do the show since I was a kid, you pick up on certain things that Drew does differently, but those things aren't necessarily "bad" or "good" he just has his own style that I'm sure that I'll grow accustomed to.
As for how the show itself went, I'd say it was unusually good. A "perfect"(all 6 contestants won their game) show, in fact. At each big wheel, even, someone hit $1.00, which is a rarity in itself. I'm sure this wasn't his actual first episode taped and they just decided to get a little creative with the episode order, but it's still nice to see.
Even more ironic is that one of the big wheel winners was wearing a shirt that said "Cleveland Rocks". As South Park put it, "If 'irony' were made of strawberries, we'd all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
I'm also very glad that he ended the show by asking people to help control the pet population by having their pets spayed or neutered. All in all, I think it went as well as could be expected for a first show.
Anybody else who watched have thoughts? Or do other people have jobs?
