Opening Night tonight.

Obv. my defense is weak, but at least they are cheap. Berard will probably be dropped as soon as I make a choice on who I want to replace him. There are some trade possibilities out there which will be continued to be explored.

I feel like a have a good shot to win the division this year after finishing second in the div last year.

I think it'll be a pretty good battle for 1st in our division...one that I'll miss out on as I fill that juicy #4 slot.

The asdfjkl; will continue their reign as Division Supreme Warlords
TheDaveyG
BlackDevilHawks have beaten Broadway for victory number 1.

The BlackDevilHawks open their season on the road in New York against Broadway and was able to control the game on their way to a 4.5 to 0.5 victory. Chris Drury led the way with 1 goal and 2 assists, while Martin St. Louis had 3 assists and Nathan Horton added a goal and Paul Ranger an assist. The Lightning turned in a dominating performance giving up 1 goal.

Up next is the BlackDevilHawks home opener against reigning Division Supreme winners, the asdfjkl;, on Saturday at 6:00 central time.
TheDaveyG
BlackDevilHawks vs. asdfjkl;

Last season, the BDH went 1-6-1against them, including 2 OT losses, and four more losses by a combined total of 3 points. The BDH finished 2nd in the division to the asdfjkl;, only 7 points behind. We look to this record against the home keys as the reason we weren't in the playoffs. If the asdjkl; have the same kind of luck they had last year, then we have no shot. Are we still bitter about that, a little. dry.gif A drubbing tonight will help ease the pain.
TheDaveyG
Tough loss last night for the BDH, losing to the home keys in overtime again. Luck is not on our side against this team. On the bright side, the defense was able to get 2 goals and 2 assists in the loss.

Wednesday October 10th

BlackDevilHawks (1-1-0) at Altona Maroons (0-2-0)

The BDH travel to Altona to face those pesky Maroons in another Division Supreme matchup. The Maroons dropped their season opener at home while the BDH won on the road for their season opener. The Maroons are the team of the future in the FCHL with very good players ready to break out at any time. Last season, the BDH were 6-2 against the Maroons. Jonathan Toews will make his debut tonight after sitting out the first two games with a broken finger.

Projected lineups:

BlackDevilHawks:

Crosby
M. St. Louis
Drury
Getzlaf
Toews
Horton
Ranger
Meszaros
Sopel
Nummelin
Tampa Bay

Maroons:

P.M. Bouchard
Hemsky
Morrow
T. Ruutu
Zherdev
Huselius
Seabrook
Burns
Bieksa
Pitkanen
Wild

Good luck Nell!

Staal is out, Ruutu in. Playing a hunch here.

Ruutu and Toews should be on the same line tonight, good move.
TheDaveyG
Altona Maroons defeat the BlackDevilHawks 4-3 behind two goals from Huselis and a Backstrom shutout. Jonathan Towes scored his first career FCHL goal, but it wasn't enough as the top line of Crosby-St. Louis-Drury could only get 1A. Ryan Getzlaf tried to bring them back with a 1G 1A effort, but fell just short.

Up next is a 5 game road trip against some very tough teams.

Good game Nell.
TheDaveyG
The BlackDevilHawks have claimed Tobias Enstrom off of waivers and have dropped Nummelin. He's young and has been given a lot of chances on the power play, now he can start putting some points on the board. Now I only have 1 defenseman who was born before 1983.

Saturday Oct. 13

BlackDevilHawks 3
Whalers 2

A fine victory for the BHD on the road tonight against the Whalers. Sid came through with a pair of goals while Ovechkin added another. Brunette and Justin Williams each added 2 assists. The goaltending was shaky at best, allowing 6 goals that kept it close for the Whalers. This was the first victory against the Whalers after getting swept by them last season.

Next game- October 18 at The Lost Cause
TheDaveyG
GAME NIGHT!

BLACKDEVILHAWKS 2-2-0 4 @ Lost Cause 3-1-0 6

Projected Lineups

BDH:

M. St. Louis- 2.5 points in 4 games
A. Ovechkin- 2 points in 2 games
C. Drury- 2 points in 4 games
N. Horton- 1 point in 3 games
M. Lombardi- 0 points in 1 games
M. Stajan- first start of FCHL season
A. Meszaros- 1.5 points in 4 games
P. Ranger- 2 points in 4 games
I. White- 1 point in 3 games
T. Enstrom- 0 points in 1 game
Tampa Bay goalies- -4 points in 3 games

Lost Cause:

D. Alfredsson
B. Richards
S. Horcoff
S. Gagne
A. Tanguay
R. Clowe
F. Kuba
L. Visnovsky
Florida goalies

Should be another close game here. The Lost Cause are short 2 d-men, but have very strong forwards going tonight. This game will probably come down to goalies.... but I have a feeling that Tanguay and Clowe will go crazy tonight and I'll lose by 4 points.

Just heard, Vokoun out.

Thanks, didn't have a choice since Nashville didn't play tonight. I actually think Anderson is an outstanding goalie anyway (former Amerk), and it was good to see that he could shoulder the load.

Yes, it was a solid performance by your club and a very disappointing showing by my club.
TheDaveyG
With all the anticipation of playing the MapleLeafs, I forgot to do a preview of the BlackDevilHawks and Shafstbury Wheat Ales. Both teams icing a strong lineup, and the SWA are the highest scoring team in the FCHL.

BlackDevilHawks- 6.0
Shaftsbury Wheat Ales 3.5
TheDaveyG
Huge win tonight against the Lost Cause (currently FCHL leader), final score 11-1.

The BlackDevilHawks set two league records tonight, most points in a game (11) and largest margin of victory (10).

In other division supreme news, the Altona Maroons have won 2 of 3, and are gunning for the Hawks in the standings.

Maybe in 2009 you'll get there.

An interesting story I heard on the Hawks telecast the other night:

Apparently Brent Sopel told Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews that rookies were required to buy a bottle of wine for their teamates. Toews just assumed Sopel was joking and never gave it a second thought, however, Kane gave everyone on the team a bottle of wine with a personalized label listing the date of his first NHL goal. According to Marty Lapointe, who has a huge wine cellar in his house, the wine is a good one worth about $100 a bottle. Some of the players had Kane autograph the bottle for them and there is talk of a bottle or two showing up on ebay for charity.

EDIT: Just found this.
digitalmonkey
Here's the bottle on ebay if you want to bid.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...mMakeTrack=true

They had to empty the bottle as selling alcohol is not permitted on ebay.

P.S. Jason Williams look 11 years old.
TheDaveyG
Thanks for the heads up, but I won't be allowed to bid on that right now.
TheDaveyG
HUGE win tonight for the BlackDevilHawks (for those who care.) Laying the smackdown on the asdfjkl; 6.5-1. Good production from the forwards, every forwards registered at least 0.5, and Detroit with the shut-out sealed the Biatch's fate.
TheDaveyG
I am happy to announce that I met Pat Kane and Johnny Toews today at their autograph session at Hawk Quarters, 1 picture each and a puck by Toews. I couldn't be happier!! icon_dance.gif icon_dance.gif icon_dance.gif icon_dance.gif icon_dance.gif icon_dance.gif

Another win, another good game from Toews. Byfuglien could be the FA mid-season pick up of the year.

Because he's from Minnesooooota, eh?

I guarantee you he just changed the pronounciation when he started playing hockey so his obvious nickname wouldn't be "Fugly".

Is "Buffy" really that much better?

Buffy the Goaltender Slayer...

I like it

Update:

Injuries are starting to pile up for my FCHL team now. Justin Williams is done for the year, Toews will be out a few more weeks, and then Crosby goes down. We have lost 3 in a row and are now tied with the Blindsides for second best record in the league at 29-21, 7 points behind the Whalers. I am still in first place in my division though.

Traded for Nicklas Lidstrom today, gave up Braydon Coburn, 2008 1st and 2009 2nd rounders

might be another trade soon.......
TheDaveyG
Playoff time.

Blackdevilhawks take Game 1 5.5-1.

Crosby- 2 goals
Ovechkin- 2 assists
St. Louis- 1 goal
Getzlaf- 1 assist
Toews- 1 assist
Byfuglien- 1 goal
Lidstrom- 2 assists
Redwings- 3 goals against

Good all around production. Game two will be a little more tough, but you never know.
TheDaveyG
WOW, haven't posted in my FCHL team thread since my stacked team lost in the first round back in 2008.

Everyone else has been posting their trades, so why not....

First one was a fortnight ago, trading Jason Arnott, Jets gtd and a 5th for Sharks gtd

Then just traded a 3rd and Chris Bourque (farm) for Ray Whitney UFA

Small moves, I'm pretty sure I'll make the playoffs and if I do I have a puncher's chance of making it out of the first round.
