Calgary SHOULD HAVE won. A game against Atlanta. Should be insta-win right? Flames up 3-0. Ok victory for SURE now. Crap 3-2all of a sudden. No worries 4-2 now so Flames should've learned and now they'll play tight defense. Nope. Atlanta scores 4 in a row and take it 6-4. Idiots. Most frustrating game to watch ever.

I'd personally like to thank Bobby Holik for choosing tonight to be the one game a year he actually shows up to play.

Seriously, how the hell do you blow a 3-0 lead to ATLANTA? They are so awful (aside from Kovalchuk, obv). Thanks thrashers!

Go Avs!

Theodore is the better goalie right now. I always thought it was dumb to play a goalie against a certain team just because he beat them a few times. Most the time its just dumb luck.

I've never played, but everyone seems to think goaltending is a psychological thing more than anything else. lord knows coaches make decisions on that basis. it just seemed like an unorthodox decision...

For sure theres some psychology in it but I guess Theo was just playing too well. I don't think Budaj would have made a difference as Colorado came out flat. I didn't watch the game intently but from what I saw the goals weren't really Theos fault. Maybe the team has just played better infront of Theo as opposed to Budaj and thats where the decision came from.

Sucks to lose that one to minnesota. I think our only chance for a division championship is to win our last 2 games and the Wild to lose all 3 of theirs. We do play one more against the Wild so that does help a bit, but still.

The Colorado Avalanche finish the regular season with a 44-31-7 record giving them 95 points. That will give them the #6 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs and they will play #3 Minnesota Wild.

The Wild we're gonna be the #3 seed no matter what going into today so it's hard to use this game as a playoff preview. We went 3-4-1 during the regular season against Minnesota, but with the additions now of Salei, Forseberg and Foote, it could go either way.

They were shorthanded less than everybody else in the league is one factor.

True, but still, averaging a goal every 150 times your shorthanded is still ugly. Maybe I should have put this in RHO but I wanted some Colorado response.

Yeah, Special teams has been a huge problem this year for us. Thankfully, as of late, our PK and PP have improved VASTLY but yeah, we have failed to produce much on the PK in terms of goals. However, when it comes to special teams imo, scoring on the PK is the last thing you need to worry about.

Oh of course, I'd be fuming if I saw a penalty killer think he was Ovechkin and try and take on a whole team. But sh goals add up and can be very important. I think Ottawa led the league in them, and for a team that took a dive near the end of the regular season the games they won due to these goals was a factor in thm making the playoffs.

Did I say that??? No.

However if you wanna bring up Ovechkin, try this. Washington allowed 68 PPGs and only scored 5 SHGs(-63). The Avs allowed 56 PPG and scored 2 SHGs(-54)

Id rather have the team that goes on the PK less often(almost 50 fewer times than the Caps), has a better PK% and scores 3 less SHGs.

And Zach, can you just removed the subtitle?? Kthx

All I meant was I too would rather the penalty killers focused on keeping the puck out rather than trying to be a hero.

Altitude's Haynes to Miss Playoffs Altitude Sports & Entertainment Network announced today that Avalanche play-by-play announcer Mike Haynes will undergo surgery on a Basilar Artery Aneurysm. He will miss the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs.

“We truly support Mike and his family during this very difficult time and we ask all Avalanche fans to keep Mike in their thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks,” said C.E.O of Altitude Sports & Entertainment, Jim Martin.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Robert Breeze the Vice-Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Hospital.

In the interim, John Kelly who was the play-by-play voice of the Avalanche for their first nine seasons in Colorado on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain will return to the booth to call the games alongside Peter McNab. “We would like to very much thank the St. Louis Blues organization and Fox Sports for allowing us to reach out to John” said Matt Hutchings, C.O.O. for Altitude Sports & Entertainment.

Mike and his family greatly appreciate the support they’ve received and at this time they ask that their privacy be respected.

Altitude Sports & Entertainment kicks off coverage of the Avalanche Playoffs with the Pre-Game show on Wednesday, April 9 as the Avs take on the Minnesota Wild in Game One of the Western Conference Quarterfinals (7 p.m. MDT).

Just an absolute terrific game on both sides and very exciting to watch. It was sooooo huge for us the escape the 1st period still tied and we finally took control in the 2nd with 2 nice goal Backstrom didn't have much of a shot at. The 3rd started as a disaster, 1 unlucky bounce of of Finger's foot and a good goal and all the sudden it is tied. Quenneville did a good job with the timeout and he didn't talk to the team. Just let them sit back an let the arena calm down. I was about to kill someone or something after that. A post, a crossbar, a penalty shot, 2 reveiws, but in the end Super Joe comes through with the big overtime winner, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Avalanche lead 1-0

That was a great game.

Theodore played like a beast and won the game for us. He basically kept the Avs in the game with several monster saves through out the game.

I didn't understand those two reviews.

It looked like the puck went off a Wild skate for a goal on the first review. I was playing poker so I missed all the camera angles, but that's what I saw. Ok, they reviewed it and I guess they got that one right. but..........

What's with the Wild player covering the puck in the crease with his glove and pushing it over the line and the Avs just get a penalty shot?

I hate how Altitude doesn't broadcast in HD for away games.

That's one of those FUBAR SNAFUs that the league has. The original call on the ice was no goal and a penalty shot. They could NOT see the puck cross the line on the replays so you cannot assume that it did.

I have an idea for an electronic goal judge that would never be wrong...perhaps I need to team up with LLY's math/physics brain.
XXEddie
The first goal definately went off Jones skate, but I wouldn't really call it a 'distinct kicking motion'...Ok, he probably was trying to kick it in, but it looked more like he was just trying to get up. The 2nd one, i get it, you couldnt see it, even thought it was obvious it was in, I just woulda LOVED to see it called goal just so karma would strike the Wild player that covered it.

DM, i'd like to hear your idea for this electronic goal judge that would 'never be wrong'

I thought the issue was that the red had already blown his whistle before it went in?
