i'll give a general over view first.

i'm 19 and i work out and eat healthier than average.

i checked my blood pressure yesterday like 8 times and most of the readings were in the 148-153/70-90 range with a normal pulse.

i decided maybe since i just came back from camping it's a little higher and decided to sleep in today and get a reading in the morning...reading: 151/93/65...im really concerned but the weird part is my head doesn't hurt or anything and i feel fine except for the stress...

the reason im writing here is cuz i'm in israel right now and i can't talk to any immediate family or friends and my family here just tells me it's wrong, you're too young to have that high of blood pressure but all the readings for the other ppl are normal...

i feel like i can't talk to anyone here and so i wrote it here...any advice? or words that would calm me down are appreciated..is it possible to lower it? can it be that it's not actually that high but this high right now because of some other factors?

thanks

Gabe.

p.s. if i have high blood pressure i'm saying goodbye to my days as a professioal poker player as that is not a good job with someone with a high blood presure...i'm going to go back to play little stakes if i want to play poker so i don't feel stress when i play. i'm really stressed because of it and it's hurting me more that i can't talk to anyone or go to my doctor...i go back to canada on the 12th...

could be the blood pressure cuff... if its too small it will read higher than normal... if thats your true blood pressure, than your diet and exercise are about to get healthier...
loxo
Seriously, if you're concerned see a doctor. They can regulate it with medication and advise you on other methods to bring it down.
ShakeZuma
thats high for someone your age, thats for sure, but it isn't high enough to be of immediate dire concern. just take it easy while you're in isreal and see a doctor as soon as you get back. if the diastolic (bottom one) gets over a hundred, go to a doctor.

according to that site i have mild hypertension...i'm only worried if i can't bring it down...but if i take appropriate measures can i bring it back down to 120/80? if i really work hard at bringing it down and follow the doctor's advice 100%?

thanks.

OMG high blood pressure drama bombs.

I hadn't realized that FCP had geriatrics.

Mild hypertension is no big deal. Easily put in check by medication. Cut down your sodium intake also (although with the right drugs, this isn't even necessary). Definitely not a reason to be upset or worried. You'll have plenty of better reasons for that later in life.

I have big arms and in the Dr.'s office, my blood pressure was very high. So he made me buy a machine with a big cuff and I had to monitor my blood pressure for two weeks, twice a day. With the bigger cuff, it was normal.

I would see a doctor when you get a chance. Also you may not be taking the BP correctly look up how to do it online and follow that to a T. For your age having BP that high is a concern so you def should get it looked out. Try cutting down on alcohol, cigarettes caffeine and limit your sodium intake to 2g per day. Also try eating healthy with smaller portion sizes and avoid high fat foods if you can, although you are young I would'nt leave this unchecked for any great period of time a doctor can easily put you on a Thiazide diuretic and it should control your bp, but if you eat well and excercise you may be able to bring it down. Also are you on any medications, herbals or over the counter meds?

I have an appointment on oct. 16th to my family doctor.

I wont be taking my blood pressure until then cuz i get stressed right before it and i think that may affect it as well...and i get panic attacks every time i check the blood pressure (only after i saw the consistency of the high results).

Also, if he gives me drugs such as Thiazide diuretic (don't know what that is)...would it help control and bring my life back to normal (drink like i did, eat the way i did etc)...and would it decrease my life expectancy or would it simply be back to normal except a couple pills a day?

thanks.

before you try the drug route, give something like meditation or self-hypnosis a try.

Ideally you should stick to lifestyle changes that will help you control your bp, the way bp is treated is by maximizing and stepping up. If you want to avoid taking a ton of drugs and spending a ton of money the best way to control HTN is to live a little more healthy. You are really young to be having HTN so I would suggest trying to make some changes now so that you dont let this get out of control. Many people underestimate the seriousness of having high blood pressure over an extended period of time, you may not see or feel anything but it leads to a bunch of health problems (heart attacks, kidney issues, stroke etc.)

It can also be hereditary though

It can make you prone to hypertension but that does'nt change the fact that lifestyle plays a major role and how you approach treatment.

Overall its nothing to flip out over Gabe, lots of people have HTN and if they stick to the treatment they are fine. You are'nt in any extreme danger by any means so I would'nt worry to much about it.

I don't disagree but there are some extremeley healthy people out there that can't escape their genes. The OP said he worked out and at pretty good, but a lot of people do not really know what eating good is. For instance some people thinking eating soup is good, well if it is canned or instant than it probably has more than half your daily sodium intake. Just an example.

what?

the first bolded part - the stress because of the blood pressure readings.
the second bolded part - unrelated whatsoever to the stress in the first bolded part.
