Honestly I think it is just a bigger sample size for the black atheletes. I had a white friend who turned down a UNLV 75% ride to play center there, he was, in my opinion good enough to play pro, but he smoked too much weed during that time and although he wont admit it, I am positive he blames his lack of desire to continue on because he was smoking a TON at that time.
Side note, he played with Donte' Stallworth's older brother, and he was better than Donte, but had that same weed issue, and he was a complete idiot, living with whatever girl he was banging, hung out with crack dealers. One time we went to pick him and a buddy up to go play hoops, at the time I was 20 or so with a pretty nice lowered black BMW, and his buddy runs from across the street after completeing a deal to hop in my car. I looked at him and made him empty his pockets to prove he wasn't holding anymore before we went up the street to ball, because a: principal b: I used to get pulled over all the time in that thing. One of the most ridiculous surreal moments of my life. Back to stallworth, he ran a legit 4.19 40, was on the practice squad in San Diego for a couple year but could not get his head straight. I saw him in JC return 6 Kick offs/Punts returns for TD's in one game, it was re dic u lous!
Yeah I think a lot of people have stories similar to that. Basically, you know someone who has what it takes but for one reason or another, they just don't. A lot of the times its either drugs, hanging with the wrong crowd, or both.
