Was out of town for the first week, so I didn't pay much attention to the games aside from seeing Michigan lost and Auburn pulled out a close one.

Tonight, I wanted a little action, so on a lark I threw some money on the Over 64 for the Louisville-MTSU game. I've been rewarded with a 28-14 score only ten minutes into the game. icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah...made it with 4 minutes left in the half. Kind of funny to win a bet that far before a game's over.

Considering going to the Auburn game tonight.

I'm such a stupid sportsbettor when it comes to college football. I mean, with baseball, I can pretend I know what I'm doing. With this, I do a glance-over and impulse. Fortunately, I realize this, and I'm a nit, so I keep my bets under $15.

Here's who I got today:

Football - College Lines (Game) Total

...argh. Bye-bye, season. Auburn deserved to lose that game. Unless they use it to inspire them the rest of the way, they're going to get stomped during the SEC schedule. And to be honest, it's pretty worthless when that happens. What good was beating Florida last year on the heels of losing to Arkansas?

I went a nice 1-6 on my picks to boot.

I'm retiring from following College Football this season. GL everyone.

Who said I'm going to stop being a fan? It's my loyalty to Auburn that causes so much pain to watch this debacle.

And to be honest, this is one of the primary reasons that I think football is kind of stupid game. Everyone gets pumped up for one hour-long game per week over (ideally) 13 weeks. And, they're not even an hour of play...so much of that is clock-killing. So we put all of this emphasis on a tiny number of trials...and a single turnover...a matter of yards...can potentially change a whole game or season. With one slip up...one or two losses...oh well...season's shot.

Baseball...you get plenty of time/game/trials to narrow down the best teams. Requiring "perfection" over a dozen games exalts luck.

If we want to make a poker analogy...football seasons are the equivalent of having one big MTT. Yes, there's plenty of dead money (terrible teams), and skill is going to play a major part in winning...but it's too much hub-bub for the entertainment that it provides. We get all ramped up for this one annual tournament...and it's so easily flushed. In a game like baseball, you're looking at POY races...those that have demonstrated excellence over the long haul.

Cobalt since u live there make sure Cox doesnt play another down.....Burns did pretty good today. I cant believe they put in cox on that last drive. I know why they did it and he got them down there. But, those last 4 downs were just sooo bad. What a year its gonna be. But, if we beat ALA for 5 in a row Im might be happy.

Totally agree. I'm hoping that the promise that Kodi "Excellent" Burns showed isn't fleeting.

We've beat Bama 5 years in a row already. We're going for 6...but that doesn't look likely. If we keep turning over the ball like this (12 in 3 games...against low tier teams), we're going to be lucky to win 3 games.

After this mess, I said that I'm not going to actively follow college football this season. Will I hear plenty about it and be exposed to it regardless? Probably. Do I hope we get our shit together? Yeah. Will I follow next season? Definitely. Heck, I'm still probably going to end up going to a game this season. I just don't see the point in getting involved with it emotionally when the only emotions are likely going to be bad.

somewhere Ty Willingham is laughing his arse off. Personally, I hope the Irish start 0-8. Then, when Weis isnt fired I hope some african-american rights group sues Notre Dame for unfair hiring practices or something. God, that would be sweet.

Considering how good South Florida has looked this year that loss Auburn took to them doesn't look so bad now.
CobaltBlue
I think I provided myself some outs in that passage you quoted, SA, but I probably was being a bit melodramatic after two "ridiculous" losses. It's kind of hard to not get emotionally invested when your team is competing with and beating the #4.

That said, it frustrates the crap out of me that we destroy our seasons like this and then take down some big rankers.

Jadaki, USF might not look so bad, but this Miss State loss is still pretty unexcusable.

This is true. Beating them in 2001 and again in 2006 are definitely two of my favorites CFB memories.

Fun times:

Auburn vs. Florida teams ranked in top 4
Florida rank Auburn result
2007 4th W, 20-17
2006 2nd W, 27-17
2001 1st W, 23-20
1996 1st L, 51-10
1994 1st W, 36-33
1993 4th W, 38-35

Yes...I'm prepared to look pathetic with this bump...but didn't know where else to put it and didn't want to start a new thread...

So Hawaii's the only perfect D1A team. They deserve to play for the national championship. I mean, they might get thrashed if they did, but pretending that all of these teams are on "par" by having them in the same division and then treating them unequally is a joke. Break up the division if you have to...but stop pretending that this system is a good one.
