I'm taking part in a tournament in Vienna this weekend. It's NL Holdem, unlimited rebuys and 1 addon till end of level 3. Stack is 1000 with blinds going up every 30 minutes First level is 25/50. After level 3 its 20 minutes. I've never played a rebuy and addon tournament and I wanted to know how i should use my rebuy (you can use your rebuy after you've dropped below 1000 or a double-rebuy after an all-in. Your addon can be taken till the end of level 3). I have no idea if i should rebuy immediatly or wait....

Can somebody please tell me what the best way for such a tournament is

I usually do a rebuy right at the beginning, then play tight but very aggressive, since very many players play average or bad hands, because you can allways rebuy, so its good to have a bigger stack, because you get more chips from their all-ins. also if you get busted doublerebuy.

Wow, never having played one before, good luck with this one. Rebuy tournaments are completely different from regular. There are 2 far away strategies that I'll talk about:
Daniel Negreanu strategy: Daniel likes to take a lot of risks and make a lot of all-ins. It's simple, if he builds a big stack, great, if he loses, not only will he jsut rebuy, but he has put more chips on the table that he plans on winning back later. This strategy can be very very expensive, I can't even give you the number on rebuys he made the last couple of rebuy WSOP events, it was insane. However, if things do work out well, you can build a huge stack and go deep. This strategy is based around the fact that you usually arn't a huge underdog in preflop all-ins. Unless you have a lot of money, probably best to not play this way.
Phil Hellmuth strategy: Avoid the need to rebuy. I believe he starts off with an immidiate rebuy, but not sure. After that, it's time to play tight. Because there are so many players out there willing to go broke, Phil just waits for big hands and builds a stack that way. He even likes to show up late for these tournaments just avoid the first couple insane rounds. If he gets knocked out, he will probably rebuy, but the idea is to avoid rebuys as much as possible, wait for big hands, and go deep in the tournament. It will be harder to go deep with this strategy, but then again, you don't need to go deep to pay off your entry.
I reccomend kinda playing in the middlish, more towards hellmuth play. Wait for big hands, get in cheap pots, and try to bust a few players. Be ready to rebuy at least a couple times + be ready to add-on. The only time I would say you don't need to add-on is if you're so short stacked that you don't think it's worth the extra buy-in to give yourself hope, or maybe if you're a collasal chip leader. Anyway, I'm not the biggest rebuy fan, but that's my advice, good luck

Play a few cheap ones online to get a feel for it. Party and Stars have rebuy tourneys for under $5.

Thanks for your answers, they really help me! I think Phil's approach is the best for me. I am no donkey and experienced in Cashgames and regular tournaments so I think I can handle this strategy (I simply dont have enough money to play daniels strat. I guess 1 rebuy at the beginning and the addon and the end of lvl 3 should do it.)

Normally beiing a pretty tight TAG, this is the way I play re-buy tourneys, not that I play very many.

A little story - during my first trip to Veags to play live 2 years ago, I go the Orleans to play (I was told it was a low buy-in, which is what I was looking for). It turned out to be a $45 LIMIT re-buy tourney, and I had never played a re-buy before. We played 11 handed (for the first 3 hours), and I played very tightly. I tripled up by the end of the re-buy period playing only group 1 hands, and only paid the original buy-in, the dealer tip and the add-on. 135 people started, and we did a 6 way chop for first...

SOrry, as you might have noticed I'm no native speaker What does this sentence mean Does it mean that you split up the first price with 6 people I dont get it

The money left in the prize pool with 6 players left was chopped up (either with an equal chop, a chop dependent on chip counts, or simply a chop the players agreed to themselves).
