My 3rd hand at the table, so no reads. I can't see KK, 99, or 88 checking that flop. Most likely a straight/flush draw? I know I'm most likely ahead right now, but is it right to call knowing I could still be a slight dog?

I probably check flop, or at least make a smaller bet. As played, I fold to his raise.

You could be a giant dog to the right kind of (very plausible) hand

BZZZ. Wrong answer. Checking the flop is terrible here as it's extremely likely you have the best hand, but there are still a ton of weak draws that could hit against you. Anyway, I like the pot-sized bet and with CO this short, this is an automatic call. He could easily have something like a pair and an open-ender that he didn't feel comfortable betting into a large field but decided to get in with once he realized you were heads-up.

C/O isn't "short" , it's just that the pot is so big. We're playing for a buyin here.
