I didn't get much for xmas. my wife is in grad school and has no income so it would be like me buying a gift for myself w/ my own money. i guess my favorite gift was a box of chocolate covered pretzels.

also i would be pumped about a high quality cookware set as well.

I was highly pumped about getting a $50 use anywhere debit style gift card. I mean, why the hell do they even make those? Is hard currency going out of date?

I got a stitched Romo Jersey, which I think is about as exciting as it gets though.

I think I'm just gonna put a GB logo on it after Sunday. For some reason I'm choosing to root for them in the playoffs although I think it's very likely they lose their first game. Kind of faltering down the stretch.

That said, I have visions of Favre beating NE in the Super Bowl to stop the undefeated season and go into retirement in a better storyline than Elway.

Unfortunately for Favre (who sucks, by the way, and has sucked for a good number of years), the NFC runs through Tampa Bay (ummm, via another location since they don't have homefield).

If Green Bay does make it to the Super Bowl, I hope Tom Brady metaphorically rips his heart out. It's a metaphor...but it really happened.

I'm hoping i can get out of the house and play live poker tonight. It would be my first time playing in about 3 weeks.

To preface a little, I'm married and have a kid, and my wife hates gambling of any sort, so anytime i can get out of the house to play is a good thing.

It just sucks because i can only play about 2-3 times a month, and thats not nearly enough for me, but for the moment i have to deal with it i guess.

Anyone else stuck in a similar predicament?

When I had to take a break from playing in 2005 to "study" for my FE exam, I bought myself some All-Clad cookware and a set of Whustof Knives as a reward for my good poker playing.

I say "study" because I never did study, but I still passed. I did not play poker for about 6 weeks though.

I want to bet on the Giants out of pride, but I don't think there's any chance in hell that they'll even cause the Pats not to cover, let alone actually beat them. They are just not gonna be playing their guys since the game is meaningless to them.

Maybe next year though.

kinda but no kid. i don't get out nearly enuf to play live but log about 30K hands a month online. my wife is in grad school and i work a 9-5er so i play on evenings and weekends. difference is she is cool with gambling. i cashed out several thousand for our wedding, cashed out took her to vegas, bought her a designer purse, paid for xmas gifts etc. i don't play high stakes just muck and grind 50 and 100 rings and small sngs/mtts. she was nurse so i had tons of night shifts/12 hr daylight shifts where she comes home goes to bed. i make sure to not let poker interfere with housework or making dinner.

i don't think you can easily change her feeling on gambling easily. very tough subject. i think if i were you i would deposit a small amount online and play micros when she is in bed or working or wherever.

To be completely honest, I would much rather have a wife, than play poker ever again, and Poker is my first favorite hobby. I guess that is in a one-or-the-other type of situation though. Full time cook, maid, and lover rolled into one is something hard to come by.

I married her about 6 years ago, and at that time, poker is not what it is now. I played a little bit at the casino's but only 3-6 limit so it wasn't very profitable to keep going back. I wasn't into poker as much as i am now. Now that NL is everywhere, its extremely profitable for me to play live (as opposed to grinding 50 NL online). Also, i played online alot already this year at micro limits. When i would play, i would play at night when she was sleeping, and even playing about 2x a week online was like pulling teeth with her, she hated it. I don't know, i can't complain too much because i feel like I have a great wife and i don't intend on leaving my relationship, but it sucks that my hobby of choice right now is something that i feel is "restricted" to days where my wife is actually in a good mood and doesn't mind me going out.

I just lie to girls and say that I win.

She hated that I played, and was still pissed whether I donked it up or won $170 playing 6max .05/.10 cent in 3 1/2 hours with some donk friends one night (true story). It was literally the best I've ever ran, and I still get an earfull about how I thought cards were more important than her.

The third hand of a .25/.50 game I played last night I ran bottom set into middle set for 80% of my stack. Went down to $10, didn't rebuy and grinded back up against the donks to $40 over the next 10 hands, picked up AK and raised on the button, got 3 callers, flop is KT5r, I call a bet from a tight player, turn is another 5, he bets again, I decide he's weak and shove, he thinks for 10 minutes and finally calls with 65s in a blatant slow roll and I go broke.

Then over the next 4 hours I win all that I lost back, plus another $85 turning gutshots and sets every 2 minutes. But I never played a big pot. So to summerize:

+-0
Hand 3: -40
Hand 13: -10
Hand 15: -50
Hand 30: -30
Hand 60: +10
4 Hours into game: +85.
