I don't get
Sinfest, Cobalt.
xkcd is the nut web comic.
...what's not to get? I don't think it's "LOL funny" very frequently, and I generally dislike when he does parodies, but I think it's a pretty clever little world aside from that. The characters seem cliche initially, but they grow on you, and I enjoy the artwork. Perhaps I have attachment to Slick, because, despite his facade, he's a hopeless romantic.
As far as other comic strips go, I loved Calvin & Hobbes (Sinfest reminds me of it a bit). I also liked Garfield. Far Side was generally funny, but I was never a diehard fan.
Once I discovered webcomics, I read a lot of Sluggy Freelance. I think it has one of the richest (and perhaps convoluted) storylines ever. Don't keep up with it much anymore, because I realized I wasn't entertained by all of the focus on action. I also read Mac Hall...which was updated very irregularly but generally very pretty and funny...until they stopped making it. Something Positive is one most clever strips that I've come across, and I've definitely laughed out loud a lot, but I fell out of reading it for some reason. It has a tendency to be text-heavy, so that might've been part of it.
These days, in addition to Sinfest, I regularly read Diesel Sweeties and Penny Arcade. Diesel Sweeties' art is "crude" as it's a pixelated comic but not enough that it bothers me. It makes obscure, clever, funny references. As for PA, I think it's my primary source of video game info.
Okay...so I checked out xkcd...I really didn't laugh at all for the first 20 or so, but then I got to this:

Reminds me of something Demetri Martin would say.
Bahahaha....
