There are a lot of borderline spots, say if you're in the hijack with QQ87 or something where it doesn't really matter what you do. If bdc would just follow this rule, he'd be fine though:

-Any hand that's worth playing from UTG (in 6-max) should be raised from the CO or the Button unless the pot is raised already.

I think if you follow that rule, it's almost impossible for your PFR not to reach at least 10. And I don't think it could ever hurt your game compared to playing all passive preflop.

Can we elaborate on this as a group? What hands should I be playing from UTG? I'm not playing many and I'm limping very few. If I'm doing anything from UTG or UTG+1, I'm raising it most often. Should I be limping hands there?

I think where I limp most is from button/cutoff when there are already ~2 limpers and I have a good multiway hand, OR a hand that I can get rid of easily with position, such as TT45, A578 single suited, stuff like that, where I wouldn't play it from UTG, and I'm not raising it in to 4 players. Is this correct?

What do you mean by good multiway hands? Things like JJT9ss, all the mid/high wrap hands, KQ89ds, etc. should be a raise there every time.

I'll look in my database for some examples.
simo_8ball
Oh, and if you can get hold of some cardrunners videos they are priceless. SBrugby and Stinger are great, great teachers.
bdc30
By multi-way I meant hands like QQxx, JJxx, two pair hands, etc, where I could pop top set against a couple of limpers and be hidden against their middle sets, etc. (just as an example)

You don't need to be as aggro as that, but you should definitely be playing a good number of those like I was preflop.

Just look at how many of those hands get checked to me on the flop (something like 75% of them). I can decide whether to bet or to check. I get the power in the hand. I have control.

(I didn't select these hands for positive or negative outcome - they were just the first ones I found in the db having raised preflop in LP)

Wow, thanks Simo, I wasn't expecting that volume of information. Will have to dissect when I'm home from work.

Wow, thanks Simo, I wasn't expecting that volume of information. Will have to dissect when I'm home from work.

PokerEV makes it pretty simple to filter them all out.

One thing that I've always considered when playing, is that I should be the kind of player I have trouble playing against. I think it's a concept that not many people really think about.

Playing raised pots out of position without the betting lead is hell, so I try to make other people play them.
bdc30
What filters/combinations do you use? I'm really not all that familiar with it.

For those hands?

Position at most 1 off the button
Action preflop is a raise

That gets my late pos. preflop raises to look through, then to separate from those hands just the pairs, I added

Include hands 99, TT, JJ, QQ, KK
Exclude hands AA

Brought up all non aces hands with high pairs which I've raised in late position.

Sorry for the delay in replying to your message.

As it is only Poker sites which are affected, and nothing else, it seemed that the issue was regarding the ping rates on your connection. Most gaming sites/program performance are very dependant on a low ping rate, and if it is too high, you can get disconnected from these systems.

I collaborated with our Customer Solutions Team, who have made adjustments to your line to reduce the ping rate. Hopefully this will now have resolved your issue.
I trust this helps however should yo u continue to experience technical difficulties, please reply to this email or call us on 08705 515 515. Lines are open 24 hours a day.

Kind regards

Success? Can I play poker again? There are two possibilities:

1) I can and will start playing more hours and TPMM
2) I try to play, disconnect with the nuts, then start swearing and throwing things

Quick session today, only put in about 350 hands. Work getting in the way of poker, again...Nothing major as far as hands or stats, I was about 24/7/2.5 today. The one thing I do like is that the winnings and showdown winnings lines are closer together, and there are a few spots in there where it looks like I won decent sized pots without showdown, which as I'm sure Simo knows, is unlike the "old" me....lol
bdc30
...and since the all important (to me) 7th...

bdc30
What a crazy session. Only had time for ~115 hands today. Dropped a buyin almost instantly, then had a huge turnaround. Back in to the green for the month at 50 now! Woot!

iggymcfly
If it holds, this will be my first five-figure month since January. I guess it's easy to never tilt when you're running good, but I really feel like I've turned a corner and am on the path to a life of hookers and blow from here on out. wink.gif

This is about 60% at $0.5/$1 and 40% at $1/$2 by the way.

So, I plan to join the ranks of the FCP PLO players soon. I have been playing a little bit (recognized Iggy's SN at the tables but didn't realize it was from here) and I'm gonna probably start posting some PLO hands the more I play. I feel that I'm a marginal player right now, but that I am a small winner becuase a lot of the competition I've been playing at 1/2 is so weak. We'll see how things go from here on out since I'll be playing a mix of PLO and NLHE on Stars and FT.

Any PLO Book Recommondations?

I have Rolf Slotboom's book and I've read a bunch of other random things and a lot of forum stuff, but I'm looking for any and all advice.

Thanks.
iggymcfly
There's not really much out there in terms of good PLO books. There's some good advice in the Omaha forum on 2+2 (it's a little higher volume than this one), but a lot of it you just have to pick up yourself intuitively. The best simple one sentence advice I could give is just to be aggressive. There are a lot of break-even players out there that could be winning players or small winners that could be big winners if they'd bet and raise a little more and check and call a little less.

I just lost 4.5 buyins at a table where a guy was playing with the following stats.
Not much I can do, but I emailed support because this just seemed so ridiculously unreasonable to me.
Let me know what you think.

1/2 6-max PLO on Pokerstars

Total hands :121
VPIP: 90%
Went to SD: 41%
Won at SD: 71%
Preflop raise: 68%
Total AF: 1.9
Total Amt Won: $2328.65

He'd literally pot everything preflop. If you raised, he'd repot usually or call with anything he raised with. I managed to get it AIPF with him on one hand with AAQJds and he had AAT4ss and the flop was J44.

I'm just still shellshocked form this whole thing.

Was it Iggy? Those sound like his kind of stats sometimes.

Dear Support:

I have been playing at a 1/2 6 max PLO table named "Slipher" against an opponent named The C@t, who according to my pokertracker stats, was running at 90% VPIP, 68% PFR and a total AF of almost 2. Over the 121 hands he was at the table he won +$2328.65 or just under 12 buyins.

I have played poker for a long time and I have not seen someone play almost every hand and win such a large % at showdown. He went to showdown almost 40% of the time and wound up with the best hand almost 70% of the those times.

These statistics just seem unreasonable even given the small sample size.

Please do whatever you do when people report things like this and get back to me.

Thank you,

Acid_Knight (Matt Livingston)

1) lol.
2) That is possible over a small sample size. It's just really unlikely.

Check his river aggression - if he calls the river with the worst hand at times then it should be just an anomaly.

Also,

3) Please post some of the hands, and of course:

4) Graph or it didn't happen smile.gif

Oh, and

5) Welcome to the world of PLO. You'll win buyin after buyin and wonder why you ever played NLHE, then you'll drop 10 buyins in 300 hands and wonder if it's even possible to win at this game.

4. I have poker grapher, but do I need a different one for PLO? It only seems to want to import my PT holdem database. I'd love to post some of the stuff for your enjoyment.

Yeah, so yesterday, I lost $1085 playing 1/2 PLO and then I won $1072 playing 1/2 NLHE. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Yeah, I couldn't win a pot to save my life yesterday.

Those 2 hands you posted were pretty standard imo Acid. Obv AA vs AA nothing you could do.

I am not sure I like your overpush on the other hand. Yeah, it was a horrid call on his part pf, but if he was in there gambling it is what I would expect to see occasionally. As it turned out you were 40/60, but if he had the fd too it was 25/75. If he has an ugly 2p it is 30/70. Numbers say pushing was probably the correct play. I would imagine against this guy it was an easy decision.

I'm not really complaining about the hands i played against him and especially not the 2 that I posted in my blog there. I know the AA one was marginal and both AA hands were pretty ratty pieces of crap, but that's how he was playing. I mean, short of flopping a set with the AA on that other hand, what am I looking for? Rainbow board would be better I guess. Fewer straight draws? I mean, if I'm laying that down to a guy there who's just got his foot on the gas 100%, i think it's making a mistake.

Most of the money I lost was just missing flops. It's incredible how fast you can burn up money in that game missing flops and then missing your big draws or getting your sets/straights drawn out on.

Oh well.

I think PokerEV is extremely useful in PLO because, at the very least, you can eliminate the allin luck factor. Once you get to know the program you can really see very easily if you're overplaying draws, if you're overvaluing aces, etc. etc.

Please elaborate. Have the program, have used it, but haven't tooled with it that much.

Sorry Acid, didn't mean to give the impression I thought you were complaining. Even on the 2nd hand analysis the further I went the more I thought it was an easy call.

Tables like that I find a comparison to low limit LHE. Your swings are going to be huge because of quite a few missed hands, but over a huge sample it is def +EV.
BigLebowski
Didn't get to play much in Nov due to a minor issue with my FTP account getting shut down, but this is what I got

Big spike is when I ran over a 2/4 table for about 50 hands. Small sample but I ran 41/15/6. Won 15 hands, lost $ on 12 hands. The rest is from 25 or 50. Got a new FTP account set up yesterday so we'll be back at it soon. I don't recall getting my money in bad at 2/4 so that equity adjusted figured has me puzzled. Half of the difference came from 2/4 and 80% of my winnings were at showdown.

edit: so i just went over the 15 hands i have no clue where the neg equity comes in. I had the best hand every time. PokerEV gives me a headache.

bdc30
Ok, so there isn't much of a PROFIT here, but that wasn't what I was interested in today. I focused on being more aggro overall, and the numbers ended up 26/12/2.3 which I'm sure you know is almost double my normal aggro #'s. What I DID like from this graph though was that after I dropped the buyin(s) early, you can see where I won a few good pots without showdown (and most without hands...lol) and that the actual winnings # was higher than both showdown and equity. Definitely a different type of bdc graph.

Essentially you were getting 100% of pots where you had less than 100% equity. If you got your money in as a 70% favourite in a $500 pot, you will have won $500 when you should have won $350. That's $150 above expectation.

Weeeeeeeeeeeee

You're getting there. It's definitely a far cry from the 35/3 you used to be.

Keep it up. Keep PFR>10 and VPIP<35 and you should be fine. Keep getting more aggro as you become more comfortable with it.

Wanted to both thank you for the read here and allay your fears on The_C@t having the ability to cheat. I used this info to my advantage last night, doing things like 4-betting with double-suited jacks after his 3-bet. He dropped $1,730 in 180 hands, most of it to me before leaving. The fact that he 1-tabled the last 30-40 minutes makes me think that it might have been all the money he had on Stars.

Dear Matt Livingston (Acid_Knight)

Thank you very much for contacting us in regards to this matter. After reviewing the hand histories in question and previous hand histories regarding the player The_C@t, we have determined that they indeed were in collusion with another player at your table.

Unfortunately, while we were reviewing the details in question, the player The_C@t chip dumped to another player that we are now investigating as well. However, our initial research indicates this player did nothing wrong and will most likely not be punished.

Please feel better knowing we have now closed the account The_C@t and he will no longer be able to play. The other player in question has done nothing wrong and will allowed to continuing playing.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will contact you further should the funds become available again.

Good luck at the tables.
