QUOTE (bdc30 @ Tuesday, September 11th, 2007, 3:27 PM) *
How does one overcome the "holy shit that's a lot of money" complex?

By saying that I mean that while playing 0.25 right now, I don't really care if I lose to a pot sized bet in a pot that is $12. At the end of the day, it's $12.

Once I'm playing at $100 and $200, and a guy shovels $90-$100-$110 in against me on the river, HOW the hell do you make that semi-marginal call? I guess that's what playing with proper br is all about but man... Right now, I can't see myself ever thinking of it that way.

I wish the sites had a "BB only" option, where you could make ALL table buyins and stacks and bets in BB. There would be no dollar signs. Every time you bought in to whatever limit you were at, you buy in at "50BB". That would be something I'd use for SURE.

It comes with experience I guess, but like you said it has a ton to do with bankroll management. Its a weird situation because you want to be able to not think about the money but at the same time you dont want to completely lose all respect for money. You just want to try and never be results orientated and always just look at every decision by the percentages not the dollar signs, earlier in the day I lost a big pot when I got it in with a huge draw and bricked, I felt like sht because I could have slowed down and saved money when I lost instead of getting aggressive and losing a monster. That was me being results orientated and I knew that it was the right play but I just lost so oh well. I've heard it many times before and I do believe it, in order to be a good player even a great player you have to not think about the money your playing with.

I am much better online then I am live, when I play live and have to make a 400 dollar call it is much much harder than online.
BudBundy
Well as i said you don't depend on poker money so you don't have to be ridiculously overrolled to move up like me.

I never deposited online , started with party 50$ and moved up from there so i am making a special effort to keep it that way. I also started trying to support myself with poker money. I don't pay rent or bills or stuff like that but you know drinks , clothes , vacations etc. For example i withdrew 2000$ a few days ago to pay 400$ school expense and a trip to Vienna - Budapest one month later in Ramadan Holiday(Obv brag post? lol).

What i am saying is 35 buy ins should be enough for you if you are willing to move down. Move up to 100$ with 35 , if you lose 10 buyins drop down to 50$ and you will still have a safe 50 buyins for that level to grind it back.

*****

And about the big money complex , besides having a big bankroll , trying to focus on the right decision every hand helps. have the odds calculator open while playing and check the equites after every big pot you won or lost. It reduces tilt as well. Sometimes it feels like some guy put a huge bad beat on you but when you check the equites you see he is %40 on flop or had the pot odds to call.

My day :

I played like an idiot for the first 2 hours and paid the price. I can't complain.

Here's a good fKing way to start a session -- lose a 90/10 right off the hop. That doesn't give you any tilt issues or anything.

Pretty boring routine ~650 hand session. That hand right at the start sorta set the tone. I actually had some monster hands (I think I hit quads 4 times in 600 hands) but always had the board crushed so bad when I'd get them, nobody would pay me off. /shrug. Trying to get gold ironman status this month and I'm well on my way to that.
Still >5bb/100 for the month so that's good. Tomorrow's another (hopefully >20bb/100) day smile.gif
BudBundy
Where do you check your ironman status?
bdc30
On the cashier window, click "My Promotions", then it will bring up a page with options, one of which being "Check My Ironman Status"
bdc30
Blah. Terrible day thus far. Getting NO cards at all. If I raise pre, I whiff, if I flat call, I catch enough to draw but it doesn't get there.
Down 3 buyins 1k hands in. sigh.
bdc30
What a shitty day. That is all. No cards, didn't hit any draws, missed all the flops. bleh.

Played a big pot, limped 4 way bb blind pots to 24 and I call knowing he has aces.

He bet the pot of 120 and had 300 behind and I insta shoved on the button having him covered hoping he would lay down the aces but did'nt really mind if he called, he thought for a while and made a good call.

fortunately I turned a club

But, I do know quite a bit about PLO. I think.

I'm just quite rusty. I do read this forum the most out of the non LHE/SHLHE forums.

:-)

Nut outs are less important in 6-max than full ring. Don't overplay big pair + junk hands. Those are speculative hands -- you need to hit top set AND your opponent to hit top-two or a set. Play hands that make straights. Play double suited hands that makes straights aggressively.
Zach6668
Fwiw, I made $28 playing .1/.25 PLO this morning ($50 buyin), in like 40 hands, so I'm pretty sure I'm good. Although I kinda sucked out on my big pot. I did post it though because I think I played it well, but maybe not.

ok quick.

I play the WCOOP 6-max PLO in 26 hours. Someone tell me how to play PLO!

Try to get it all in with 14 outs or better on the flop. Dont raise many hand pre-flop out of position unless you can get a good deal of your stack into the pot or unless your table is respecting your raises. If you have a stack play almost anything in position and try to steal on the flop and evaluate the board on later streets to read you opponents hand and you can win big pots with nothing or give it up, playing your position in earlier rounds of omaha tournaments can make it extremely easy.
Zach6668
Yeah, for the most part, this is going to be a really deep tourney. We've got 150 BBs to start, and it's 30 minute levels!

So basically, I'm just gonna be playing pots in position, semi-small balling it, etc, and nut drawing, etc.

Say you're that deep, how much less often are you going to be going mental with your massive draws? Is there a point when it becomes best to just call with say a wrap or a fd+oesd or something like that? Or should I generally just be in re-pot mode with massive hands/draws?

Hopefully this is how I'm gonna run today. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate minbuying shortstacks?

Well it depends on a ton of variables really. You are going to have to be getting it in with massive draws out of position often, but in position Just taking cards off in certain scenarios when you are fairly sure your opponent is going to get it in anyways will be the right play much of the time allowying you to save some money if the board pairs on the turn, or you brick out thus keeping your tournie alive whereas in a cash game the right play may differ significantly.

and for the first half of the month at $25, I'm not doing TOO badly. Donked off ~$150 playing at higher limits with Bundy, so the roll isn't quite where it should be. The second half of the month I HAVE to stay disciplined and play ONLY at $25 where I have a sufficient roll.
